Ugh, no more macbooks with LCD without a notch? :( I really don’t want OLED for macOS, I guess my M1 Air will be my last macbook for a long while…

find more ways to complain about the notch yall 🍿

okay fine tho I’ll give. finally invested in CrossOver the other day after learning how absurdly easy it is to play games off Steam with a good Wine bottler + GPTK. yes, there’s something incredibly irritating about playing GTAV fullscreen with that damn notch just there in the middle on top. fine! I get it!

OLED will be here soon enough, M6(?) is shaping up to be the biggest MBP upgrade yet post-Apple Silicon

Eh. I'm happy with my iPad Pro which is OLED, touchscreen, cellular, and notchless.
See, it's not that it's hard to do.
It's that Apple doesn't want to do it.
Well, unless you get an iPhone, iPad and MB to do it all.
Gee, I wonder why they want you to do that? 🙄

I guess this would mean a software “camera on” indicator instead of the hardware green light. Overall, it means nothing for most ppl (including me), but it feels like a little less security lol

That “roadmap” link doesn’t work, for me at least.
Can someone confirm that this is indeed an Apple roadmap? Or is it a Gurman “roadmap”?

Why would you want a camera in a notebook? To see your own face? Use a mirror instead! All notebooks have them, but many people put stickers on them.

I know the choices for MacBook are pretty much always one model type but if I could be given some options during speccing up there's two i'd love.

1. I don't mind the notch, but if you could just select "no webcam" you could have the option not have one, that'd suit me just fine.

2. The option to have the HDMI port, SDXC reader and MagSafe charging OR another Thunderbolt 5 port.

Never going to happen but.

The theoretical top bezel had Apple chose to install a rectangular screen is only about as thick as that bottom plastic piece on the display. Calling that large is exaggerating. Plus a rectangular display is cheaper to manufacture than a notched display.

The full width menu bar is more useful to me over the "thin" bezel look as I have a bunch of status icons on displays.

There's still lots of space _under_ the screen. Make use of it Apple.
Lenovo did on some Yogas but the camera tech sucked so you looked stupid.

I’ll ask again, in what universe is “increased brightness” an advantage of oled over lcd? They had to stack tandem oleds in the iPad just to match the peak brightness of the mini LED, and the battery life on my iPad Pro is not great. Honestly I think people eat up marketing jargon so uncritically, anymore.

Apps can certainly know that the notch is there and can be coded to use just the content area below the notch. It is lazy programming to not do so unless your interface can work around it.

The notch is still an eyesore for me, and I still haven’t gotten used to it. I was totally taken aback when the rumor about it surfaced just before the release. I still can’t believe they went for it. It remains a poor design choice. I would have taken a slighter larger top bezel over a notch any day.

Will be interesting to see how they pull it off.

They could integrate the camera into the display I guess so it is less of a notch and more of a hole who knows?

I don't see them brining back a large bezel to hide the camera in as they'd have to shrink the screen real estate to do so.
Dell has a camera in the bezel that's about the same size as the MBP bezel. It's easily possible if Apple wanted to.
