from what I have read (and its been a while since I havent been able to keep up), apple released a revision to the macbooks secretly to address some of the issues. Have any of the new buyers had any major or annoying problems because I have been contemplating upgrading my ibook to a macbook

gonna order a macbook pro this weekend during the NC Tax-Free weekend :D

hope some of the stuff i've heard about has been taken care of... :(

Good God I hope you wait until after WWDC to order a MBP.....

i would love to but i need it to go back to school :(

tax-free weekend is this coming weekend, right at the beginning of WWDC...

i'm already buying a $2k machine... it'd be too much money and time lost without a computer to afford to wait and it blows :(

you are talking about the 2-3 seconds on and off or about the take off and landing of loud fans?

the on-off-on-off is the "mooing", the louder noise is normal full fans when it gets really hot - relatively quiet compared to others types of notebok computers - or so i've heard.

I was hoping all the issues had been addressed but i just got mine yesterday (white, 2GHz, 1GB RAM) and its a mooer. Its not that loud and it wouldn't be all that annoying if I hadn't had such high expectations for it.

Apart from that its sweet as!!!

Macbook Speakers?

Curious: is there a substantial difference in speaker quality between the Macbook 1.83 and 2.0? Is this difference (if any, in quality and volume) worth $200? Thanks for any advice...
And, while we're at it, which model performs better, given the $200 price difference...

the only differences in the macbook models of 1.83 and 2.0 is the processor and cd drive. The 1.83 does not include a dvd burner and also has a smaller processor. The 2.0 macbook has a better processor and the upgraded cd burner/dvd burner.

Nothing else is different.

As for the black macbook, they include a larger hard drive.

2.0 ?

Thanks for the feedback! So, for clarification, the 1.8 doesn't burn DVDs? Bang for your buck, you'd go with the 2.0?

No way dude. Get yourself an external drive. You can pick up a 16x dual layer drive for much much cheaper than the difference you would pay for the 2.0Ghz MacBook.

If you want to save some money this is an option. There's a dual-layer DVD burner at http://www.mac-pro.com/s.nl/it.A/id.2066/.f?sc=2&category=342 with Lightscribe for decorating the disc -$140.00. There are others even lesss expensive.

The question only you can answer is how much portability do you want (or need)?

Myself, I preffered the portability of having it all in one - BUT I'm a big believer in external devices-especialy from the standpoint of "service". If an inexpensive external breaks down, it's easy to just relpace it. When the internal breaks down, the whole computer's got to go in for repair.

They can charge a premium for black as we all want that colour. It'll be interesting to see if the price falls for the black once the rush has died down.

It's true, the black ipods have sold exponentially in comparison to the whites, and Apple is banking on the same principle for the MacBooks. I know quite a few ipod owners and only one with white.

Personally, I prefer a white MacBook.. most laptops come in black anyway. And Apple users are all about being the minority..

whyyyyyyyy does it keep shutting down randomly on me?!!?!?! PLEEEEASE stop! i am but an innocent college student, i can not afford to send it away for a week!

MacBookPro RAM

I'm sure this has been beaten to death (ducks arrows) i've got one with 512 ram, a collegue has offered me a 1 gig from his MBP at an outrageous price, known him for years and trust him! Are there any issues with using one 512 and a 1 gig? If I remember correctly?? the older Mac laptops didn't like mixing different RAM values..... Thanking youse in advance!

AFAIK it's perfectly Ok,

Next time post it in the correct forum, E.g. "Macbook and Macbook Pro" or perhaps, "Mac Basics and Help" PLEASE!

1) your macbook has 2x 256 sticks

2) yes it'll work, but graphics performence will go down some 50%

3) you can get 1GB sticks off newegg for like 75 bucks

jeez, I don't come here that often and I always ask simple questions with what i'd think would be simple answers. There are so many threads, I looked, but I had to make a quick decision. I don't engage in warfare, maybe I should go buy microcrap instead? pardon eh! moi!

It'll work fine.

I was on 1GB + 256MB for a while in my MB while I saved up for another 1gb stick. Didn't notice any dip in graphics performance.
