Hi. Congrats on your nice screen. Would you mind determining the model number using the Terminal method described in this thread? I'm sure people (including me :)) would love to know who manufactured it. Cheers.

I agree. :) By the way, I'm guessing that the 9CA7 is gonna be a Samsung.

For now, the confirmed manufacturers of the new screens are the following:
9CA5 - LG-Philips
9CA8 - AUO

Bought a 2.4GHz unibody MacBook less than 24 hrs ago.
Screen is 9CA7 from manufacturer 0610 and is just beautiful. No artifacts that have been described here (and elsewhere) in the forums.

I too have a 9CA7 display in my 2.0GHz aluminium unibody Macbook. I purchased it at the end of April this year (2009).

I ran 'ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6' in Terminal, and it comes up with the following:

N133I6-L08

A search on google comes up with a company I've never heard of before: Chi Mei Optoelectronics (a subsidiary of the Chi Mei Corporation). According to Wikipedia, it's the world's 4th and Taiwan's 2nd largest maker of TFT-LCD panels.

Alvin.C, thanks for taking the time & effort to help us check out the screen model. I appreciate that. :)

Alright, so as of now the codes of the newer screens are the following:

9CA5 - LG-Philips
9CA7 - Chi Mei
9CA8 - AUO

White macbook screen

What kind of screen does the WHITE macbook use? Any switch occurring there?

Posted in the other thread, I have a new Macbook, mfg week 16 2009 with model # 9CA6, MFG: 00000610... this appears to be the number that Apple skipped over!! Any info on this from anyone???

Is anything other than the 3 numbers listed the older screens or WTF? What kind of crap is Apple pulling here updating the screens?

I just purchased a new MacBook from the online Apple store and received the following:

Manufacturer: 00000610
Model: 00009C8B
Manufacture Date: C48F2400

I haven't seen this panel mentioned in this post? Is this a newer panel, or one of the old ones?

I think I have an AUO monitor. I got her a week ago. Anyone else notice that their screen is blindingly bright? I literally see bright patches when I close my eyes once I'm done using my Macbook, like I was staring into the sun. Intense....:(

Wow, if I had gotten one of these screens, I wouldn't have switched my uni mb for a uni mbp.

Guess I got what I deserved for disobeying what my old school mac friends call 'the first mac commandment':

Thou shalt NOT buy a version a!

Is it just me, or does Apple just delight in screwing over early adopters?

So, in other words, if I sell my MBP Unibody and order MB, now, I'll get a screen as good as MBP?

This is an interesting thread. I'm just wondering if Apple always pulls this kinda silent updates on people. I feel for you people who bought already and now this.

OMG, my screen is HORRIBLE compared to these new screens =/
Im gonna call apple care today, complain about the screen and a few other things, and hopefully I'll get something done :D

Second that. Running 9CA8 AUO and it's sitting on about 30% brightness, that's plenty enough.

To be honest my display doesn't seem to be returning those "can't distinguish the difference between border and black desktop" results that the previous screen caps of the 9CA5's were, it's just a shade greyish.

I love how everyone in this thread is complaining about the old vs. new screens, yet when side by side images were posted of the old and new ones, nobody could tell the difference.
:D

It looks like they finally switched to tn+film screens on their consumer line. If its true its then its a really good thing. Most PC manufacturers had made this switch like 5-6 years ago and there is very little price difference between TN and TN+Film.

My display on my unibody 2.0 is far worse than any of these pictures, including the pictures of the 'old' display.

It's 9C89, does anyone else have this?

When looking at a black image, only about an inch horizontally in the centre is close to black, above and below that it fades to grey even with brightness turned all the way down.

Quick update. Apparently, the 9CA6 screen is a LTN133AT09, which means that it is a Samsung.

Therefore, the full list of the codes for the newer screens are the following:

9CA5 - LG-Philips
9CA6 - Samsung
9CA7 - Chi Mei
9CA8 - AUO

The only thing I dislike about my MB that I got 2 weeks after launch is the horrid display. Now I hear that they silently upgraded them and I wish I could do something about it, especially since I sprung for the extra AppleCare.

White Macbook Display

I bought my 2.4 Ghz White Macbook in April 2008. I had my screen replaced at the Apple Store yesterday. Did they upgrade me to the new screen?

What screen do i have?

Hey heres a photo of my model number i have 9CA8. Is that the new one?

I just bought my 2.0 a week ago and it is also 9C89. although after using a display calibration called "Spyder2macbook" it looks great to me.
