Is This The Product Transition?
OK, so here's my two cents, most of which is simply agreement with what others have said so far.
Apple mentioned a "product transition" that would affect quarterly earnings. Now it's fairly obvious that the earliest we would see a Mac tablet is Macworld in January, and technically that is a new product line, so that takes out that argument. We've seen the new iPods, none of which are revolutionary, or would affect profits in any way.
I think, based on what I've read so far, is that the product transition is going to be a dropping of the Macbook Pro (name, not product line), and merging the two notebook lines into a single product lineup. I think that this would could as a product transition. Prices would be cut (that's where the loss in quarterly earnings comes in). The Macbook line would appeal to both entry level and professional users based on the options available.
Also, with both the Macbook and the Macbook Pro expecting to make the shift to aluminum, could it be possible that they are simply referring to the same line?
Here's my predictions for October 14:
- A new Macbook line, with a discontinuation of the Macbook Pro name
- New Cinema Screen Displays
- The "Brick" that is rumored - A New Mac Mini?
- Speed bumps to the iMac
Whether or not Apple introduces everything in one event is highly unlikely I guess, as they need to save something for Macworld. But those are the products that are all long overdue for a refresh.
As long as I get my new Macbook Pro (or high level Macbook?) I'm happy.
