LOL i never said I make 200 per hour. I don't even get paid hourly. I meant hypothetically if you get paid $200 per hour then that is what it costs to build a hackintosh--about $1000, which makes up the difference between PCs and Macs where you get OS X already installed.

and also, how am i supposed to outsource my hackintosh-building time? Where do I find people that know how to fix the driver problems on a PC when I install OS X in my town of a population of 500. Do you think I can hire anybody off the street and they will know how to install kalyway onto a random PC with no problems?
Here's an idea. Do it on the weekend.

For those of you who are saying that it will come out tomorrow.....I GUARANTEE you that if these rumors are true and that it shipped from the factory today, it would take ALOT longer than 1 day to reach the United States, let alone all the retail stores. Think about it...these are coming over on cargo ships from China, they have to clear customs, be put on trucks, driven across the entire country...and you think all this can happen in a day?? To be honest, I think the October 14th time frame seems right on

Nonsense. Macs come by plane, not by cargo ships. Lol

When you place a CTO order, it comes by FEDEX directly from Apple's Manufacturing plant and all stock orders come from Apple's warehouse ;)

Also, There is no Apple Offical announcement about that October 14 date.

Long time lurker first time poster

I'm really interested in the next release of the MB. I don't really care about the Pro since I can't justify the extra cost for what's essentially a GPU upgrade (honestly, that's the bulk of the cost and a nicer res LCD).

But coming from a long PC history dating back to DOS and Win3.1, I have to say that my usage has changed.

I was a big gamer back in the university days but now in the working life, I use my laptop mainly for podcasting, itunes, photos, web, blogging, general usage and some very light gaming (read: SC1, WoW, etc.) nothing that requires a super intensive GPU.

I will continue to have my PC as the main powerhouse so when I need to crunch some video or when I need to run a game at full res, I can have it. But everyday use, MB's are what I'm looking for.

I had a T61, a Dell XPS M1330, and others before that. The T61 was converted to a dual boot hackintosh and the only thing that didn't work was sleep and sound. But with the month I spent on the hackintosh, I totally fell in love with OSX. The fact that a huge amount of software is included is a big bonus. Garageband alone would cost you $100 to get something similar on Windows and that's a program that works well and is easy to use. I know there's free alternatives but those don't really come close to the Garageband functions.

So I'm hoping for a MB refresh, anything is good since this will be my first one. I do hope that they at least pop a 3200HD IGP on the board instead of going Nvidia again but I doubt that since they are still very much intel. I think dedicated graphics are still too much to hope for at the bottom end of things but maybe an option to upgrade to it at the bottom would be nice.

/holding my breath!

So if i install kalyway on a weekend, it'll take less time? LOL five hours is five hours no matter what.

And if an hour is worth $200 to you... and 5 hours is $1,000... That makes MACs and PCs almost the same price.

about $2800(product) for Mac

about $1500(product) + $1000(self-service install) = $2500 for PC

I know you were talking hypothetically, hence I questioned the idiotic tactic in this post:

The thing, you can come up with all sorts of ridiculous calculations, but when they have no bearing on real life, they're just a fanboy babbling.

Poor lad. I take it you work from home as well?

Do you think I can hire anybody off the street and they will know how to install kalyway onto a random PC with no problems?
No, but if you're hypothetically paid $200 dollars an hour, you could hypothetically fed ex it to someone who knew what they were doing. OR you could do it in your free time.
Me, I'll be doing it because I want better quality, better specs, and get the hell away from the constant issues and removal of features in both hardware and software – and did I mention to get better quality?

I bolded one of your points to make it stand out.... Remember those packing lists on cargo ships back in March that just said "Electirc Computer".. Some thought those were iphones, some said the packages were too big to be iphones... Could this be the mysterious "Electric computer"?

As mentioned, your calculations are so far fetched and removed from reality it's ridiculous. Let's say your time is worth $25 bucks an hour (do the calc)?

How about $1000/hour(do the calc)?

It's obvious you have only landed on $200/hour in order to pretend it doesn't make financiel sense to make a hackintosh. It's intellectual dishonesty at its "finest".

Hey i know that I am a mac fanboy and do some slight exaggerating to get my point across.

But all you are MS fanboys who do the same thing by proclaiming that mac users are paying $1000 for OS X

LOL, i'll stop spreading false information when MS Fansboy Stop on a MAC website.

Well obviously your time isn't worth $200/hour, so its a moot point.

Except in the Macbook Air, which uses a custom (Small Form Factor) Intel chipset.
Actually, I think the Voodoo Envy 133 uses the same processor.

Good post.

It seems like lately, people have started to argue with reason, actually proving why a PC is a better buy. I think people are smartening up are realizing how much the Apple tax really is. If you think it's worth paying 2x the price for similar specs of a comparable PC, fine, but at least consider how much OS X is worth for you before just buying a Mac.

I believe that all of us "MS fanboys" are actually Mac users. So sorry. ;)

LOL, exactly! Swing and miss by a huge margin! :p

Edit: On the bright side, at least he admits to being a fanboy who "exaggerates" and spread "false information" :D

hmmm its quite possible and would be extremely sneaky. however its more likely that they were just test models for the labs at apple or they could be completely unrelated such as extra shipments of already existent products (i.e. macbooks, imacs, etc)

What about heating issues (as hot as is possible without overheating, 24/7), and Macbook cracking, and MBP graphics card problems? What about poor flash performance?

Also, I'd be curious to know which of the users in your survey actually have older Macs, which tend to run much better than the modern ones of the past couple of years.
on the graphics card issue, im pretty sure that nvidia (sp?) cards are %#$$ up across the board, Not just macs.

Flash, thats just the nature of flash lol. I think that may have to do more with safari than anything, but im not really sure so i cannot claim it as fact.

Is $1000 a hard number for you to swallow or something? You've rebutted this claim with figures such as $900 and $800 in response, which if your making $200 an hour, is a little more than 20 minutes difference.:D

YAY new MacBooks!!

But I'm curious: Do things usually ship a whole month before their release?! That seems so early... Maybe some MacBooks before October 14th!? :)

Slow boat from China. No really that's how they have shipped in the past :)

You're all wrong they are time machines. We're going to experience the Newton all over again.

Is it crazy to think than Apple could reveal MacBook / MBP with slim Color Aluminum case (with the 9 color such the new iPod nano) ???

At least, it will be possible to match your iPod to your MacBook, and they will just compete Dell with their color notebooks...

Just thinking out loud :)

Spid

totally salivating for new macbooks, like Pavlov's dogs.

october 14th now less than a month away...

It doesn't matter. I just found out that most PCs cost the same amount as Macbooks. HERE

Add $1000 like Beric says for OS X on the pc, then you have macbook pros at a tremendous savings.
