Don't get me wrong. I like Apple. Have been an investor in Apple. And will be switcing to Apple computers in the next several months. But I refuse to check my brain at the door. Though some would say that's already happened. :D

I'm really hoping Apple starts concentrating on computers again for awhile like they did in the days when they were Apple Computer Inc. :apple:

I just want metal.

recent tips we've received suggesting that a new MacBook Pro will be headed onto store shelves come September 23rd
So September 23 may not be for the regular MacBook, or the MacBook Air.

well, there are movies, and reinstall software.....
How often do you reinstall your software?

This reminds me 06 when we were all waiting for merom and C2D MBPs. I'm not giving in this time!
And when they did come, they had some fairly big spec bumps at least.

Yes there is a tax on Apple computers, but not to the extreme that has been painted.

Checking on the Dell site for my country comparing a 13.3" Dell Inspiron 13 specced the same as the Mid-range Macbook the price is $1,069 for the Dell and $1,349 for the Macbook. So would I pay $280 for OS X, yes, yes I would. Having used Vista, I would not hesitate to pay a premium for a modern OS. I also support Window products for a living and at the end of the day the last thing I want to do is to fight with my computer at home. There are quirks in OS X, but I believe it to be greatly superior to anything that Microsoft has to offer...though the server version of Vista (Windows Server 2008) is a much improved version, you just can't get it for notebooks and what not.

I'm glad they're revisiting their notebooks, I'd gladly buy a MBP as when they are first released they are comparable in price to top end notebooks running Windows.

The Only reason that Apple has had high margins is because not many people were purchasing their products (between the 90's and about 2002ish) compared to other OEM's. The High margins were justified by the fact that Apple branded themselves as a ' premium' company.

The situation has now changed, a lot more people are purchasing Apple products; and Apple are their selling macs in record numbers. Therefore it would only make sense for them to cut the prices (because of record sales). Additionally they use intel chips know, therefore hardware wise there is nothing that sets them apart from other OEM's.

As long as they have texas instruments firewire in the new Macbook Pro i'll be happy

Wouldn't it be brilliant if the new notebooks where aircraft grade aluminium , had decent ports , decent screen , 2Gb Ram with ability to accept up to 6 also with an up to date graphics chip (user upgradable) with entry price at £599UK..... combo drive , of course :p

It will take a lot more to make me happy, but even getting Apple to use the TI FW controller (again) is a longshot.

Easy to make happy

If the Mac Books get back lit LED's and a chip upgrade they will get my money.

If the Mac Books don't get back lit LED's and the MBA gets a few improvements I will go with that instead.

I would rather a touch screen tablet like a big iPod touch, but I am not going to wait for that. If it is good enough I will get that too after they shake the bugs out of it.

That sounds pretty good to me. I'd pay up to 1400, depending on the specs.

I was also Windows-only for about 12 years until I finally got tired of spending my spare time trouble-shooting and fixing several PCs that we have on our home network. I have dumped 3 of our PCs for an iMac and a Macbook so far this year, and will be picking up the new Macbook as soon as it is released. I can justify the price "premium" because I'm getting much better reliability and the performance is also at least as good or better than the low-priced garbage sold at big box electronics stores. I value my time, and the Mac has been absolutely trouble-free.

BTW, if you compared computers with comparable specs, the price differential between a Wintel machine and a Mac isn't as great as some think it is. The low-priced Windows machines have much slower processors than the Mac, and I find the Mac OS to require much less RAM memory than the Windows Vista to perform the same functions.

As soon as the market recovers, I'll also be dumping my shares in MS.

stop the fud. Server 2008 and vista use the same kernel; once you enable all the services required to have a functional workstation os you have vista.

edit: when cs4 comes out I would rather use my vista box then a mac pro for image editing.

Shipping to where. I'm sorry if you ship thousands of something all over the world even with the best of intentions as far as not wanting anyone to see it, its going to leak out. So i am going to call BS on this one.

i've been a pc user all my life, and i have been waiting for this update since February to finally cross over. i use the imacs every chance i get at school so i'm eagerly awaiting this update so i can join the group

Arrghhhh!

I was really hoping the rumors were true. This will be my first MacBook, and I am ready to buy NOW! Oh, well. I'm willing to wait, but I don't think I will be able to stand it much longer! Hopefully we will hear some kind of announcement very soon!

What also helps swallow the premium on Macs is the resale value. They retain their value much longer than most PCs. I had two 24" iMac at home and I sold one lately. I sold it for about 200$ less than what I bought it.
My very similarily specced PC that I also sold I never managed to get this close to the original price, I got about 600$ less than what I bought it for.
So in the end, my iMac turned out to be cheaper than my pc even though I paid a big premium over the PC computer. Obviously, this logic only works if you sell the machine which isn't going to happen with everyone.

Why would they release a new model with 10.5.2???
