:D

my macbook has reached northampton, so it'll definately be arriveing on tuesday, damn memorial day getting in the way of my macbook.

I received my MacBook yesterday (Friday 26th @ 12.30pm) delivered by UPS. I ordered mine on the 16th (launch day). The packaging and the macbook looks awesome. I'm so glad it arrived before the bank holiday weekend. I shall be spending this weekend tweeking and transfering files/data onto the MB. Good luck to all those still waiting for their MB. More update after I've used it for a couple of days.

How long would a MBP with a 1gig memory upgrade take to ship to northeastern US? I ordered it this weekend, but it probably won't get processed until Tuesday.

Does the "1-3 business" days on the Apple site really mean anything?

I guess it's about:
- 1-3 business days for them to process (they'll probably just need one).
- 2-3 business days for FedEx to deliver.
So you should have it before the end of the week. (at least that's the speed your fellow countrymen have had.. us europeans have to wait about 3x as long).

True. I ordered 8 days ago and it's still stuck in Pudong, waiting for some plane... Gneh. Apple's website still claim i'll have it by tuesday but I doubt that. Let's hope.
Damn all you lucky b*stards who are having fun with yours already! I'm still on a 5 year-old windows pc that doesn't allow me to run MSN and Skype at the same time without shamefully crashing down. I must admit I can't wait to finally get something that'll run smoothly.

the 6 year old mac that I'm typing on now has both skype msn aim safari terminal photoshop CS2, pages, calculator, grapher, preview and itunes open....

Funny you mention it. Because my 9 year old P 166 MMX with win98SE works just fine aswell. Skype, yahoo messenger MSN, mail program, browser etc can be run simultaniously without any annoying slow downs etc.

Yes or Skype maybe. One of the earlier versions was incredible bad.

Btw, I have used Unix and a little Linux more or less exclusively since 1997. Is there a good tutorial homepage for OS X?

And staying on topic:

26 May 2006 18:07 Arnhem Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
26 May 2006 18:07 Arnhem Hub Consignment Passed Through Transit Point
23 May 2006 00:40 Suzhou Shipped From Originating Depot
22 May 2006 18:10 Suzhou Consignment Received At Transit Point

:)

just useing OS X for a while is better than most tutorials, if something works a way you dont expect it to just eliminate possible ways to do it untill you find it, all too many people come up against something different panic and post a new thread about it.

Hi,

I've read a fair bit of this thread - not every word :) - and it's been really useful (thanks!) but I still have a couple of questions.

I got the Dispatch Notification email for my MacBook yesterday afternoon but nothing in tracking yet. Any ideas when it might appear in the tracking databases?

I've tried tracking with 80xxxxxxxx number at:

http://www.apecode.com/appletrack/

and then clicking the number in:

Error: Delivery Note "80xxxxxxxx" is unknown! (0104)

on the error screen that appears. This currently takes me to a TNT 'Not Found' error screen. Am I doing this right?

There are two bits two my order (MB and AppleCare) that will 'Merge in Transit GB'. The above refers to what I've tried for the MB which is listed as shipping via 'Kuhne & Nagel Spedition s.a r'. The AppleCare is listed coming via 'Flextronics c/o Express Cargo'. I've tried searching with the 80xxxxxxxx number (region: Europe, Customer Ref: APP) at:

https://www.iec-logistics.com/apps/tracktrace/trk_tracking.asp

and get an almost blank page. Is this because I'm using Safari or Firefox? I don't even have a copy of IE and Microsoft don't make it available for d/l anymore. Anything I can do?

Edit: fix link

As far as the GUI is concerned anyone who's remotely computer literate will figure it out. For the unix part there are apperantly some diffrences. You might want to have a look at the O'reilly book Mac OS X Tiger for Unix Geeks. I've browsed through it quickly on SafariBooks, if you don't have access to that it's probably not worth full price. It starts with a dufus explanation of the OS X terminal, has some info on arternative terminal apps. Then some interesting bits on OS X specific command line tools for things like spotlight. Then some stuff about X11 and Fink. Also some mac specific info about system administration and stuff. I'd pick it up for cheap if I saw it somewhere but I don't think you'll need it much.

I think most of what you're used to doing on a command line will work exactly the same as it does on any other flavor of unix though. And for anything else there's google.

That's awesome news SHadoW. Mine hasnt changed today, but I live about an hour from Northampton. Perhaps that will have something to do with it!

I've had a quick flick through "OS X Tiger for Dummies" - perhaps a good read if cheap or from your local library. There were a few notable points to storing personal files in the home folder [which Unix users will be used to already], storing all applications in the "Applications Folder", no uninstall process for Apps (perhaps removing a few preferences if being picky) and... being able to use drag and drop with Expose and the Dock as long as you keep your mouse button held down! There are also shortcuts to pretty much everything!

I'm sure it's easy to pick up when you just dive in and have a go!

I ordered my macbook from the apple store on the 22nd of may and it said the estimated shipped by date was the 29th and the estimated delivery date was the 31st. I got my email today saying it had been shipped and now my estimated delivery date is 6th june....is that normal? Is there any chance it will come before then? I'm in the UK if that helps.

I can't take this waiting:(

Cheers to anyone who can shed some light on the situation.:)

My advice is to expect your Macbook on the 6th June! If you keep reading the forum, then you may get your hopes up. You may end up getting suprised if it turns up early!

I ordered mine on the 17th May, and it's still not arrived! However, Apple's estimated times said that it would be 7th June delivery which soon changed to 30th May.

There has been some holdups with flights being cancelled / backlog of shipping parcels due to extreme bad weather.

Perhaps Apple have caught up with the demand for the Macbooks and now have a load waiting for distribution in Europe?

That's great Hector! Are you sure you didn't order it a bit earlier than the 26th though... the tracker says it was picked up in China on the 23rd. ;) :D

Maybe he hijacked someone else's MacBook? :D

Pff. Three tracking numbers for two packages by two different companies and I can't get a single one to work. Maybe they'll update tomorrow, then?

yeah, sorry the 22nd.

Thanks guys for the OS X suggestions.

Also this is what the tracker is saying now:

29 May 2006 00:33 Stockholm Onforwarded For Delivery
26 May 2006 18:07 Arnhem Hub Consignment Received At Transit Point
26 May 2006 18:07 Arnhem Hub Consignment Passed Through Transit Point
23 May 2006 00:40 Suzhou Shipped From Originating Depot
22 May 2006 18:10 Suzhou Consignment Received At Transit Point

I thought they would show the local time where the package is located when it was updated. Or do they use China timezone? It sure isnt 29th here yet.
