As rumored, Apple updated the MacBook line with a new durable polycarbonate unibody design with LED-backlit display, glass multi-touch trackpad and a 7 hour battery life.
"The new MacBook includes many of the great features found on the innovative MacBook Pro, such as an LED-backlit display, glass Multi-Touch trackpad and built-in long-life battery," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "With the only lineup of notebooks all featuring unibody enclosures, LED-backlit displays and long-life battery technology, there's never been a better time to switch to a Mac."
The new design includes a non-skid bottom surface, and weighs 4.7 pounds. It contains a 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB of RAM, 250GB HD and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics card. The new built-in battery can be replaced by Apple for $129.

The new MacBook is available immediately for the price of $999.

Very nice.

I had been telling people to forget about the Macbook and just get the 13" Macbook Pro.

I think I'll go back to suggesting this when people ask me.

Called the local Apple store. They do not know when they will have any of the updates in as of yet. They are saying they may know tomorrow.

The MB is nice but the iMac is amazing!!

$999 means that we'll have to hope the Apple tablet will finally break the sub-$900 barrier. A bit strange that it has a bigger hard drive than the low-end Pro.

Where's my Credit Card?

Oh wait, still $999? Seriously?

Why not $749. That seems like a better price.

Why does Apple display their white products on white backgrounds? So hard to see.....

Looks like a good update (except for the lack of firewire and SD card slot), but I think I'd still rather go for the low end MBP over this. Hmmm except the low end MBP only has a 160 GB HD.

Are you serious?

Excluding the new iMac I find the design of the new products absolutely hideous.

yeah i was really expecting a $100 price drop on the macbook. But i guess apples sales figures show their current pricing is just fine... glad the macbook finally caught up, but now there is very little justifying the extra $200 for the entry pro.

Looks awesome!
But for me, the biggest update today were those iMacs! Amazing stuff today..
This would have been a great presentation event (by Steve J.) if you think about it...

Yay! This was basically the update that I wanted--my beloved white macbook (I think the others look ugly) with a 7 hour battery, glass trackpad, and LED screen. Now if only the RAM went up to 8 gb instead of 4 gb... more for future updates rather than right now because 8gb of ram is so expensive.
