Yes it will take about an hour for this to sink in I believe, but also do people realize that you're not getting the full potential from BR on a 13.3" MacBook screen?

you do realise that not all people are after a BR drive for playback of movies?

BR will be incredibly handy for storage/backup of large media files (RAW camera formats, HD formats, etc)

A blu-ray option for Macboo is plausible (even if it isn't as useful as it sounds).

But networked TVs??? I don't think so. Hopfully that rumor is a misfire about updated Cinema Displays.

This stupid rumor again? I really can't see apple selling big ass TV's, at the most licensing the aTV tot other manufacturers to build them in.

btw, building in a Apple-TV or iPod is practically the same, it would be the next step to world domination in digital content. :p

Apple is rumored to have built it's own manufacturing plant.

I can see ( and have said before ) Apple making a HDTV. They already make cinema displays. With a new plant owned by Apple there's a good chance we could see an all aluminum HDTV coming from Apple. From the same plant.

I hope the :apple:TV gets the major updates it needs; Blu-ray, DVR, TV tuner... As for the TV part, well, most people who want one/can afford one, already got one. And these things are built to last. So I don't care about the TV part, just the :apple:TV upgrade. Let's hope this guy's right!:)

Oh I completely realize that, and that's the exact function I want it for, however I don't think they will have a Blu-Ray Burner option for anything but maybe the top of the line MBP (and that's a big maybe). Do you really think if they were to include Blu-Ray on MBs it would have burning capabilities?

Niceee...I am looking forward to Tuesday. No matter what Apple brings, I think I will be happy.:)

I seriously doubt that Apple is going to get into the selling large screen tv thing. I know they make existing computer displays and some peripheral gear, and it's not an impossible stretch for them, but it's a big jump and I just really doubt it. Apple retail stores are already crowded, where would they put the things? Plus, the lighting in those places is very bright, not a good place at all to showcase a big tv screen (they have a smaller LCD in there now hooked up to demo Apple TV, it looks terrible). There's also a lot of stuff that Apple would have to learn to make one including all the advanced image processing that goes on inside the tv with custom chips, like deinterlacing, upconverting and downconverting, scan rate adjstment, 3D noise filtering, artifact reduction, station tuning and decoding, ambient light-sensing black levels, special processing for different inputs, and so forth.

I kind of doubt they've found a way to make a Blu-Ray that thin and at a price point small enough for a Mac Book as well. Would be great to see it if they have though.

Are there such things as external BR drives? So the rest of us already having apple computers can view bluray movies.

yeah fair enough (I actually think they might not have blu ray at all on the consumer macbook, and will save it for the pro line).

I guess your original comment presumes they wont have a 13 inch form factor pro laptop, which is correct based on the current line up.

I spose I (like many) hanker after a 13inch pro laptop :)

Blu Ray is already dying off as a consumer format!!

Really guys I see no reason for BluRay in Apples consumer products, it is a format that is already dying off there. On the professional Macs that is a different story as there is demand there.

For the consumer market I suspect that Apple will simply offer support for BluTay for those that really want it. That support likely won't even include an Apple drive simply support for third party hardware. The problem for Apple is demand, except for a few whinners one these forums you don't see a lot of demand in the consumer space. Further a lot of the whinning you do hear here seems to come from professionals which is an entirely different ball game.

On top of all of this it is not clear that Mac OS/X addresses all the requirements need to get approval to license BluRay. That would require either an extended OS/X or some interesting hardware. I don't doubt that Apple will support BluRay soon, the question is how will they do it. It makes me wonder if this rumored Nvidia chip has direct access to the SATA port. That to provide a direct pathway to the video processor and this keep the data stream out of the CPUs grasp.

Apple built a manufacturing plant and no one knows where it is? :p

Ahhh I see the misunderstanding, yes I agree a 13" MBP would be nice, but no in my mind it will not happen, I mean it's completely possible but....I'm half psychic (lol j/k) and I don't see it happening

Cinema Display updates with HDMI and gigabit networking is what I interpret the AppleTV bit to be.

No - because a 50" Cinema Display would have a surreal resolution, and would be extremely expensive (like, $20,000). Even the 30" Cinema Display is four times as expensive as a 30" TV.

Before everyone creams their underoos please take another look at the rumor....
It says "Support Blu-ray". It does not say INCLUDES Blu-Ray.... "Support".

I'll believe it on Tuesday. It is too far fetched to be accurate to have Blu-Ray as a BTO at this point when the MacPros and iMacs don't even have it.

Remember people the EXTERNAL BDRs are $500-$700.

What I really think this means is that 10.5.6 is coming out on Tuesday that will have built in support instead of having to use Toast.

Not so sure about that, there are drives which can read BD discs but not burn them which are much less expensive. those same drives can burn CD's and DVD's.

I really hope that Apple does have some great new tv's on tap, but I don't think that Apple TV ought to be done for. Alot of people will want tv's of other makes, To lose the mac mini or the apple tv would be a bad move.

so, lets not predict death for some items, just be happy for now that the product line is getting refreshed.

yay, finally Blu-Ray and maybe some really cool TV's. but.... i doubt the tv would get mentioned at the "notebook" event next week. apple doesnt double up announcements much anymore
