new macbook and MBP

Damn!!!! no external update for the MBP.
Instead, MB owners can have processors as fast as a MBP.
What are we paying for then, is is the miraculous graphics card?
Okay, pro users now have multi-touch :) , but no bigger touchpad! :(
And the keyboard is still the same on the MBP, as is the lid without magnetic latch…
Damn, think I'll buy a pc laptop for € 700 and go back to running Archlinux.

Hey, I just heard from a very good source that there will be an upgrade on the MBP's in the next two weeks...what do you think? ;)

arggh, everything i wanted but multi-touch on the MB! i love the speed boosts and new standard hd's, and that 2 gb of ram is standard on everything but the baseline, but multitouch soon? please :apple:?

I considered buying one, but for just a little bit more, you can have the low end MacBook Pro which has so much more bang for the buck.

More importantly, for a lot less you can buy a regular MacBook which not only gives you much more bang for the buck, but is damn near just as portable.

/Still waiting for a 12" PB replacement

I think now with a 2.4GHz macbook for far less than the 2.4GHz Macbook Pro, many people might be opting for the MB rather than the MBP

Confused...

I've been waiting since the fall for this update. I was set on converting from Windows, but seriously questioning the change. For the money, I can get a hell of a lot more hardware and revert back to XP Pro x64. The track pad deal is a joke and does nothing for me. Anyone who does anything tedious on any OS/platform uses a mouse or tablet. It also seems that Apple is going through some growing pains. My choices at this point are: 1) MBP 2.4 refurb at $1,699 2) Buy a hotrod Windows machine 3) What until Apple does a complete redesign of the MBP--whenever that may be. I'm sorry, but when you spend this much money I want some flash to go with it. At least they could have given us a black MBP as with the MB, or I guess I could just skin it.

I waited for these updates, I'm in the market for a notebook.

All this update has done is made me realise 2" is not worth 400 GBP

It's fine, I'll take a MB till they overhaul the MBP properly. I can live without multitouch and 2". I'm going to be coding mostly and some graphics work on the side (I'm a web developer), so I can use a MB till then - then my gf can have a decent MB.

I got a double couple of short questions if someone would take a moment I'd appreciate it.

What does backlight LED stand for? Or mean?

Does the 17" MBP has better screen resolution than the 15?

Does that mean MB has the same resolution as the 15 MBP?

If i get the MB with the same specs as the MBP then that means basically I have the same computer just a different looking one right? Or does MBP still have something else/more?

Backlight LED (Light Emitting Diode) Is a more energy efficient screen

Yes 17" has better Res than 15 and Yes the Pro has a higher resolution than the Macbook.

No the Pro has better screen (bigger/higher res) also a dedicated graphics card for more powerful tasks like games, video editing etc... also 1 less USB port than the pro and no new multi touch track pad.

I thought the same way until my fiancee decided she wanted the AirBook, and I decided that the MacBook was too slow for cutting HD footage and editing large RAW files. The design the same, but the 17" MBP is calling my name.

thanks for the info.

Damn, right now the macbook looks much better than the pro. Unless the pro redesigns.

I will stick with my april07 macbook until they bring one out Aluminium and has multitouch, very lame apple very lame

130 uk extra to get it in black with 70GBs extra of HD, and its still 950.00 apple loves fleesin the uk

On the MacBook side of the fence, I'd feel the same way. Not that much of an update but the BlackBook looks sweet enough to get over a MBP. Only if it had the keyboard from the MacBook Air as BTO option, then I would really consider it as a stop gap until Apple did a major and much needed overhaul of the MBP.

The bigger touchpad is a real disappointment for me. I was hoping for at least that in the larger 17" book since it doesn't really offer any more hardware over the 15" The only thing keeping me from getting the 15" is that magnificant screen and speakers.... not much though.

I would love to get the MB but the graphics card, lack of backlit keyboard, and lack of extra FW ports keeps me from using it the way I would need to.

The biggest thing making me grab one now is the lack of the MB keyboard. I don't mind the current MBP keyboard, and the MB keyboard is very overrated. Though I would have loved the mag latch to the fullest, especially since it's on every Mac laptop now. Apple should have just thrown that in there for the hell of it.

so do you all think it is better to buy a new macbook or is it okay to get a current one on the market? don't see them releasing a new one anytime soon..

Get which ever one you feel satisfied with. If the SR platform and the options that it gives you are more than enough or just enough, then go for it. If you want the latest and greatest with slightly better battery life then go for the current model.
