They do these things intentionally just to watch us go nuts. They did the same thing with the original G5s too.

Well it was on there way before it was on here!

You guys don't work for MacRumors do you by any chance?

Do you work for LoopRumors? Just go down the list at their site. Almost all of their "stories" are rehashed. The one or two that are remotely exclusive are shotgun stories..."Apple is working on a wifi device"...no $#!&.

Hmmm. I would hope for something more than this. But as I've said before, the screen is one of the areas where Apple shaves money off the laptops - iBook screens are awful.

Well, if they go higher than this they're into MacBook Pro territory. I think it's the perfect spot, more horizontal and vertical space than the iBook and if they make it nice and bright I think it would be a great screen.

Finally it's absolutely confirmed.

it isnt confirmed... yet. its about 75% there. just the specs to come out and the so called 'redesigned' laptop. really, i cant see it changing too much. afterall, a laptop is a laptop. its like a car. its the same format. BUT i do look forward to seeing the iBook freshened up.

Man i cant wait for my WHITE (yes, white) Macbook. Hopefully a midrange model with GPU. even 64-128mb will be fine =D

On that note, i read that even the iMac and MBP have the intergrated graphics on their boards... if this is true, could someone show proof? if so, then apple wouldnt find it hard to offer both intergrated graphics AND dedigated.

"Integrated graphics" usually means "integrated into some other chip" instead of "dedicated chip". In all Macs except PowerMacs, the GPU (dedicated or not) is soldered directly on the motherboard.

The only Mac to have integrated graphics (so far) is the new Intel Mac mini.

Let's hope for at least an ATI Radeon 9550/64MB for the MacBook. An ATI X300/64MB would be nice, though.

The new Intel iMacs and MacBook Pros all have ATI X1600 video chips with dedicated memory.NOT the Intel integrated ones that share memory.

i just hope they change the design somehow...

Yeah I mean the new MacBook has been described as as MacBook Pro clad in white. But the MacBook Pro's design is nearly the same design as the old PowerBook.

Finally it's absolutely confirmed. Just pray that they have a $1499 model with a graphics card.

Duff-Man says...will you please get a bit of a grip. It is certainly *not* absolutely confirmed. It will be when you see them on Apple's website advertised for sale.

Having said that, it *does* look very likely that they will be released next week given all the reports now - good news for a friend of mine as she is looking to buy very very soon....oh yeah!

I think this rumor may be true. I am going to School of the Art Institute of Chicago next semester, and they are a major Apple educational partner, they are even on Apple's site because they force all their entering students into getting the 12 inch Powerbooks. So I got my letter about the laptop requirement and sending in my deposit to reserve my notebook, so I called and asked the tech guy would we be getting Macbook Pros(I would have 2, but damn who can pass it up at the price of $1999(thats all the students have to pay) or what because Powerbooks are now obsolete, he said no that we would be getting the 12 inch powerbook replacements, and that they will be placing their order on the first week of June.

I'm not too worried about a special event to announce the MacBook. They can send an announcement out today (or even Monday) and the room would be quickly filled.

It's not necessary, though, as the media loves Apple right now and even if there is no formal announcement then there will still be huge coverage. With or without a formal announcement there will be an order backlog with a week or so - especially with the education market now buying.

The 9th? Possible or probable. Personally I want to see the MacBook to see what J Ive & Co have done on the design side. It's been a while since we've seen anything new from his office and I enjoy his work as much as anything else Apple does.

The boy that cried wolf

Hmm, these MacBook rumours are like 'the boy that cried wolf'. I've heard it too many times before.

However, we're getting to the stage where it's going to be released very soon, it's even without the false alerts over the last several months, it's no big news.

To clarify this, in case the GP was asking a slightly different question, my understanding is that the MBP and iMac do, indeed, have Intel Integrated Graphics on the motherboard, but it isn't enabled. IIG is a feature of chip set Apple is using. The machines use ATI graphics instead, making the IIG redundant. I don't even know if there's a way to turn it on.

To remove IIG completely, they'd have to use a different chip set, or start burning the chips with lasers or something.

Powerbook G4 site changed

Not sure when, but within the last few days Apple has once again updated their Powerbook G4 site. The site now has been stripped of any extra pages – all the 12 inch Powerbook information, including tech specs is on one page.

Crazy interpretations of what this means for the release of the MacBook commence.

OMG!!! Look what I found!

Proof Positive!!!

I can't believe they let this slip!!! Someone's getting fired!!! :p

What makes you assume the anonymous source sent ONLY to LoopRumors? I'm sure MacRumors received it independently--they are good about giving credit/links where due. Also, I saw this on MacRumors last night--on Page Two, now moved to Page One because MR now apparently has multiple additional sources lending credence.

Thanks nagromme for taking care of that. We posted this story to page2 last night BEFORE looprumors posted anything, so in fact, looprumors if anything is copying US (most likely they just got the same tips we got).

Apple Insider has a new story up too...

...they don't specify the May 9th date, however.

Oh, but they do say all MacBook's will sport a Core Duo processor...

You have a very well prepared synopsis there mikea. What you have missed throughout is the tone and delivery of the 'rumor' orientated threads about product releases and unconfirmed stories.

I don't know about other rumor sites, but macrumors appear to have a very clear policy of placing a question mark (?) at the end of the rumor focussed stories.

Also, they merely provide a commentary on various pieces of information, and it's very rare that they will ever make explicit statements. In this case all they did was tell you something they heard.. they didn't say the macbook is going to be released.

As a result, how can they be criticised for failing to correctly predict product releases, when they made no such prediction in the first place?!

Anyway, the news stories are coming in fast so I guess the macbook will be released pretty soon. I can't wait to see em :)

YA,
You're right.
I have just been getting so rev'd up wanting this new laptop..that I have been addicted to all the rumor sites. All the predictions have just started to drive me nuts. Plus I actually need a laptop by the last week of May...and I realy want to buy a Mac....So I am hoping this rumor might be true.
?????????? Who Knows???

13.3 inch screen

Just curious about the actual screen size. I know that the speculation is that it will be 13.3 inches, but what part of that will actually be the screen and not the plastic cover?? I have a 17 inch hp laptop and it measures out at just over 17.2 inches, and the actual screen is 15.4 inches Yes it is widescreen and and yes I did measure from corners. just wondering what you guys think.

P.S. Yes I am ready to get rid of it.

Sorry but I don't think you know too much about screen resolutions. A 13.3 inch widescreen (or any widescreen) is either 16:10 or 16:9 ratio.

16:10 would be 1280x800, and 16:9 would be 1280x720. If we're unlucky it'll be the latter.
