Are these specs realistic?

$1099:
1.67 GHz Core Solo
512 MB RAM (up to 2 gigs)
60 GB HDD, 5.400 rpm. (up to 120)
Intel GMA/950 64 MB DDR
13.3", 1280x800
iSight, FrontRow and MagSafe
Backlit keyboard

$1399:
1.67 GHz Core Duo (BTO 1.83 GHz)
512 MB RAM (up to 2 gigs)
80 GB HDD, 5.400 rpm. (up to 120)
Ati X1400 64 MB DDR
13.3", 1280x800
iSight, FrontRow and MagSafe
Backlit keyboard

I think they will be 2.8 cm. The MBP's are 2.54 cm, the iBooks are 3.42 and the 12" PB is 3.0, so i think it is realistic with 2.8 (same thickness as 15" PB)

ARE YOU INSANE???!?!? THATS Bull***!!!! If it's not 2.00 GHz DC (BTO 2.33), 1GB RAM, 100+ GB HD (7200 RPM), $1099 I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER APPLE PRODUCT AGAIN. Oh yeah, and make it a Rev B to start with, OK please Mr. Jobs?

      (^^^just kidding^^^)

Hmmm, your specs and price are very reasonable. I'm not sure you understand how MR is supposed to work...

MacGeek2005 Hits The Nail On The Head 4 Me. I generally agree with your prediction - except I hope they are all 800 high - and I hope we're right. :) i would also like to see all the prices $200 less than your prediction. Also expect DVI out with spanning enabled.

Intel and Apple have "meeting rooms" next to each other upstairs next to the Media Center at the E3 Convention that goes from May 9 to May 12.

And they are right next to the media center room and the storage room where the "do not open" boxes are located. This is IT!

What about DVI?

I really don't care if it has integrated graphics or a dedicated chip set as I don't plan on playing any 3D games on it.

But the thing that is really make or break for me is if it has and external DVI port and 95% of the time I'll have it hooked up to a DVI LCD whose picture is 5x better than when connected via VGA.

The iBook's never had a DVI port, but the 12" PowerBook did... if they are merging those product lines it will be interesting to see it it has DVI or not.

Apple Insider reports that the new MacBook will sport Core Duo Processor, not a Solo... Who knows how true that is. With a week of production under the belt now, and two weeks by press time of next week.... They should be in the store when new hits the stands.

Just a quick question... If I buy one of these MacBooks in an Apple store, can they upgrade the HardDrive to 120GB, etc. Or can I only upgrade the capacity online?
I'd asked the same question at a store a few years back. They'll help you customize it, but they don't do the modification at the store. It's essentially the same as ordering it online. The only advantage I can see is that you *may* be able to pick it up in the store, eliminating have to sign for it from the delivery company.

I ended up getting mine through my company, so I don't know if BTO orders from the store can be delivered throught the store.

For what it's worth, it's worth a call to Apple to see if you get a discount. They aren't mind blowing, but saving some money is certainly better than saving no money.

I might add since going over the E3 website the meeting rooms are where most of the press conferences are held.

I think the specs are probably right on, but I think the pricing will go more like this:

1) $899
2) $1199
3) $1499 respectively. Otherwise you get to close to MacBook Pro pricing.

That rules out buying one while I'm on a one week trip to Japan then... :(

I really need at least a 100GB HD. But considering the low end MacBook Pro only comes with an 80GB HD, I can rule this out.

Oh, it's definitely there! :D Any web developers looking for a job? Countdown to someone getting $#!^canned in Cupertino in 5.... 4.... 3.... 2.... 1....

"So, why did you leave your last job at Apple?"

"I was fired for disclosing a billion-dollar product 3 days early, and completely taking their iPod page off the corporate site. "

I can't help thinking that maybe apple wants these `mistakes' to happen. What is strange here is not a web developer's mistake at apple. What's strange is that people are actually looking for these hints and clues etc about a product as predictable as macbook.

I tend to agree with that.Furthermore I believe Apple looks specifically at MacRumors to get input from those accidental leaks.
This is the second time in as many months that an "accident" occured on Apple's site followed by a post here, followed by Apple removing said leak.

Maybe the same cracker who attacked online Korean Apple Store has done it again ...

or the webmaster for that page will soon be fired

I'm at the point where I think this is done on purpose. Maybe the first time it was an accident, but I really think this is just to get people paying attention now. They saw the benefit from the original 'premature specification' and decided to run with it.

That might be true. The glitch that was there this morning isn't there now. I remember getting to it and thought it kind of funny. Hehe. I think that the index.html was stored in the wrong folder. It's prolly been put back in the apple/hardware/Macbook/index.html. That's prolly what it will be and they just goofed and put it in the wrong place.

Launching it E3 would be perfect because it would get at one of the MacBook's target audiences. I.E. College & Uni student who like games also.

I think it's going to be a 1.67 & a 1.83 in the MacBook because I reckon the iMac's and the MacBook Pro's are going to get a speed bump when the 2.33 GHz core duo comes out.

I think they'll shift the line up 1. For example:

MacBook Pro 17" could have the 2.33 GHz
The top end 15" having the 2.16 GHz chip in it by default instead of as a built to order option.
The entry level having a 2.0 GHz.

If they do launch at E3, they better not put cheap "ibook" type screens on these macbooks or the gamers will be laughing at them. I hope that this 13.3" wide screen with a nice resolution is true, it would be perfect for me. I'd have to finally retire my trusty TiBook.

Could all the "secret" windows displays etc just be this:

Beginning today, customers can pre-order a copy of the band's new double album, "Stadium Arcadium" for $19.90 to be downloaded on May 9 when it is released. Fans that pre-order the double album will receive a download of the new single, "Dani California" immediately at the time of the pre-order. On May 9, fans participating in the pre-order will also receive additional iTunes bonus content, including an exclusive audio interview with the band, a video chronicling the making of "Dani California" and a full color digital booklet.

Buy a 100 GB or 120 GB Afterwards and Put It In Yourself

If you want to spend the extra money, you can always buy one raw and swap it out for the smallest one that comes with the processor you want. They are very expensive though.

I really hope this isn't the end of the 12" form factor iBooks. I have a current generation G4 iBook 12" and would be tempted by an Intel replacement but probably not if its 13.3" minimum. Also the single core Intel isn't going to be radically quicker than my G4 so... meh.

Also, i'd definitely not order one if they suffer from the MBP problems of whining, mooing, cooking themselves etc
