That would be Italian. ;)

Would the GMA90 be able to run the next OS X (Leopard) at top performance?

It should be "good enough", the GMA950 was essentially built to accelerate the kind of stuff that Vista was doing with its new GUI, which is essentially what OS X has been doing since 10.0.

Over the years, Apple has migrated more and more of the GUI from the CPU to the GPU, I don't think there's anything left for them to optimize. Therefore, it seems probable that Leopard's performance will be the same as Tiger's when it comes to GUI speed on identical hardware. The Mac mini's performance is fine for that kind of thing.

Quite honestly, the main problem (whatever the fanbois claim) with integrated graphics is with modern games, and the GMA950 performs pretty poorly even running games from a few years ago. This is why it's a problem at E3. It's not that a $999 MacBook with a Core Duo, Superdrive, half gig of RAM, and GMA950 would be bad value or technology in terms of the intended market (students, etc), indeed it's a reasonable choice for a low-end laptop, as it's pretty power efficient, it's that it would be a poor choice of machine to launch at a games conference. They'll get a big WTF.

plus- would apple ever show their logo in a color other than white?
It's not white on their homepage...

I think the official color is more of a silver/graphite.

It playes World of Warcraft, and Knights of the Old Republic at flawless framerates!!! How do you explain that?
It's a little improbable, but assuming it's semi-true ("flawless"? There's no such thing), it's running Windows (Microsoft's DirectX drivers seem to be a little more optimal than OS X's OpenGL. I don't know why) and it's a relatively powerful machine, despite the poorly performing GPU. Not that I've ever understood why WoW has such awful framerates. The graphics have never really grabbed me as particularly state of the art.

Regardless, you're not really trying to convince everyone that Apple releasing a GMA950 based laptop at a games show isn't going to attract more criticism than a Radeon based version? The GMA950 is actually quite a good choice for a laptop aimed at the .edu crowd, it's going to play DVDs ok, it's low power, it'll accelerate the GUI enough. It's just not the right choice for a machine released at a games show. Which is why I think Apple is either not going to release it at E3, or they're going to release something with a Radeon.

I don't believe the GMA950 is capable of handling WoW at "flawless" frame rates, at the very least Warcraft III really performs poorly on my fully tricked out Mini.

Either way it is only one more day to see what's in store. I'm really hoping for a sort of iBook/PB hybrid look.

The Mac Mini is a terrible computer. I don't know why it is, but it just is. And you can't compare it to anything else.

Not Really

Actually, a significant part of the GUI framework has not yet made it to the GPU. Although Tiger includes Quartz2D Extreme, it's turned off by default, because it's still pretty buggy. Hopefully that will be remedied in 10.5. You can check the current setting from Terminal like this:

sudo defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver Quartz2DExtremeEnabled

You'll get a zero back.

Why the hell is the Mini a bad computer?

I have the Dual Core Mini with 2gb of ram and I love the machine! I use it with FinalCut Pro to produce my broadcasting journalism courswork, write and produce music with Logic and Garageband, and not to mention my dabbling with a digital SLR and Aperture/iPhoto.

It's more than capable of performing the above tasks for me - sure if I was editing more than the half hour documentary I have to produce I may want something with a bit more grunt, but it's a very nippy machine (at least when it's got more than 512mb of ram in anyway).

Sure it won't play games at any decent level - but so what? I have my Xbox 360 for that.

Not bad at all if you're making the "jump" or "switch" but yeah otherwise it's not even worth looking at.

Good God I hope so!! Any other evidence of this happening in 10.5?

I don't know, I find that it is great actually, apart from the integrated graphics :D

Either way mine probably has its retirement plan already mapped out ahead as a sort of always on DVR/bit torrent downloading "thing" when I eventually get a Mac Pro

what? ok, why even post that? there's no need for that. my posts get deleted on here, and stuff like this stays? something is wrong here

Yes it is fake, font should be Apple Myriad

Apple has licensed a _modified_ version of Myriad called Apple Myriad. There are differences in the characters, spacing, etc.

It's a fake...

The site that contained the original picture reads:

[Update] E’ stato riscontrato che l’immagine è un fake.

which translates (exactly) to:

[Update] IS been verified that the image is a fake.

Edit:
Sorry, I guess I was a little late on that information....

OK OK I Surrender. It's A FAKE

Come on man...it's abvious that the invite is a total fake. Man, and I;m only new to all this rumor crap.
It's starting to look like a skunk to me. I;m sure if this were really happening Tuesday, more buzz would be happening the last 2 days....All of this is based on an unverified source!!!!!!!!
My source at a store in Canada knows nothing of boxes or materials to remain untouched until Tuesday. Nothing..and They'd tell me..
OK OK I Surrender. It's A FAKE

"Core 2 Duo"....

And Apple's gonna bring out one of those old "Core 1" systems on Tuesday - shocking.

Well that means hopefully next Tuesday:

MB 13.3": 1.66CD/512MB/40GB/Combo/GMA950 $999
MB 13.3": 1.83CD/512MB/60GB/Super/GMA950 $1299

and possibly

MB 13.3": 1.83CD/512MB/80GB/Super/X1400 128MB $1499

and in August, the MBPros will receive a bump to:

MBPro 15.4": 2.0CD2/1GB/80GB/Super/X1600 128MB $1999
MBPro 15.4": 2.16CD2/1GB/100GB/Super/X1800 256MB $2499
MBPro 17": 2.33CD2/1GB/120GB/Super/X1800 256MB $2799

This has got to go down as one of the DUMBEST names ever. July for Desktop and August for Mobile.

well it might be dumb, but at least they made it different, instead of just keeping it "Core Duo", and then people don't really know the difference.

What makes you think they'll put a X1800 in a MacBook Pro?
