I understand that MR has to make money or else go out of business, but to host ads for MacKeeper seems a bit low.

(For anyone who doesn't know what MacKeeper is and why to avoid it: http://www.imore.com/avoid-mackeeper)

Yes, agreed, avoid MacKeeper like the proverbial plague; it is a menace, and very difficult to remove once installed (heed the voice of bitter and hard learned experience on this).

Well, unless it is somehow randomly assigned, I, too, would express some surprise that something as downright dodgy as MacKeeper would be hosted as an ad on MR.

We dislike it as much as anyone else. If somebody could share with us a screenshot while the ad is displayed at MacRumors, and the URL it links to (you don't have to click it, just copy the URL), that would let us work with the ad service to block it. Thanks.
This is what one of the ads looks like:

I'm not sure if the block is taking time to filter through Google's backend but I am still seeing these on MacRumors.

Since the ads are still getting through somehow (ironically, the ads are as persistent and annoying as MacKeeper itself), arn is investigating.

Well, it is not just that the ads (a lot like MacKeeper itself) are both persistent and annoying, as @Doctor Q has so rightly observed - but that - also like MacKeeper itself - they appear to be rather awfully hard to get rid of……..

I think the problem is that we use several different ad networks, so it's a matter of blocking them on multiple ones.

The ads somehow continue to persist. Here's the latest:

Sweet! I made the screenshot.

On a related note, I haven't seen one since Arn started nuking them. (I'm primarily using Safari on my iPad and some on my iPhone).

Aren't most adds generated from browsing history though? MacRumors can not be entirely to blame in this circumstance.
Even if your cookies have an impact on what can get selected as the displayed ad, the collection of available ads themselves that can be chosen is still something that comes from the ad network and with some control over it bu the site where the ads are presented.

Register on MacRumors! This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
