I think desktop OSs have a long way to go when it comes to security, whether new features are needed or some change in the ecosystem needs to happen. Proper sandboxing just isn't implemented right, and too many apps rely on low-level system calls that are unchecked. And critical security bugs are patched using updates, but those updates risk breaking things, so people don't install them and get wrecked by things like WannaCry.

With iPhone OS, they got to start fresh and enforce proper sandboxing from the start, but I still don't think the update system works well for security patches.

Interesting. I read some Apple docs where an app has to request network privileges in the sandbox environment. Giving the user access to that would be nice. E.g. Why does my calculator or spreadsheet need to access the network?

iCloud Backup for Mac.. (the same way our iPhones and iPads backup) duh... that dinosaur Time Machine app will finally get dragged to the cemetery.
That'd be nice for some people, but the way it works would suck for my setup which has a Mac desktop, a Mac mini on my TV and a laptop - all have duplicated data in some form. Maybe if they dropped their pricing tiers again.

Also, I would not want this at all if it doesn't allow for partial restores. The "all or nothing" iOS model sucks (I moved from a 128GB phone to a 64GB phone and my backup was around 65GB, so no restore for me.)

What are the minimum system requirements macOS 10.13??? I have iMac Late 2009 with 16GB RAM and SSD and run perfect macOS 10.12 (Sierra).

Better iWork, don't freeze when Safari eats up all the memory, compressed /Applications folder, better start up/shutdown screens, Photos.app's photos eats up all disk space when you have more than 200GB. Make it easier for Hackintosh so we can stop using Windows 10

Better iWork...
I suspect there's an agreement between MS and Apple to freeze iWork in exchange for guaranteed support of Mac in MS Office. To be honest, it would make sense, because the iWork team simply doesn't have enough resources to ever catch up to Office. At the same time, MS has finally realized that Office for Mac should provide the same experience as on Windows. Even though powertools are still missing on Mac, I've heard MS is actually working on including them in the future one by one.

Dinosaur? The best local backup solution on ANY platform is a dinosaur?

No. Your idea is terrible.

What we DO need to see is a way to attach a Time Machine backup over the WAN, for offsite backups as reliable and easy to use as local backups. Don't drag iCloud into it, my clients want full control and ownership of their own backup hardware.

I do not wish anything, Apple killed pro apps I have invested in. So slowly moved to Adobe and my next mac will be a PC.

i like mountains, Yosemite wallpaper and El Capitan were all right but Sierra wallpaper is extremely ugly, and the problem is not the shape, the problem is the brown color, they need more snow in those pictures
[doublepost=1496074055][/doublepost]is 2 or 3 themes too much to ask for in os, i know dark mode is good but a few themes will also help to make os look better and and also cool, there it was an app called flavors but it doesn't work any more in El Capitan or Sierra

what i really like is to be able to play games in os, please fix the old drivers and gives us more games
not limited ports
i know macs are not consoles or game stations but we should be able to play games
please call it mac os 11
last year they "apple" dropped the X
this year they should drop the 10
mac os 11 look and sound, one step ahead of windows 10
can't wait for os 12
tron legacy

Yeah exactly. Apple does have sandboxes now, but most programs don't use them, and the user is typically unaware of what permissions are granted. I think they're more for devs to use to protect themselves agains their own mistakes. AFAIK Chrome was the first major web browser to start doing something like that.

Fix the green button bug; windows should be expanded to the maximum size possible without hiding NECESSARY access to the file menu and dock. For some reason the green button hides them. Pretty boneheaded by Apple.

The one thing I've always wanted out of fullscreen apps is the option to keep the menubar shown yet still have the fullscreen in the top of Command Center.

It needs a feature like Trip Mode built in for managing mobile broadband data and metered connections. macOS currently does a bad job with limited connections. The minute it detects your mobile connection (Hotspot), it eats off all my data. Its partly why I haven't been using my Mac full time. Windows has included this since Windows 8, Apple needs to do same.

Well ****, why stop there. Apple should just start putting Windows on its computers and Android on its mobile devices. Both are way better than anything Apple ever made

I don't know about that, I am pretty happy with iOS. Sure, there is room for improvement, but its a solid mobile operating system. My iPhone 6s is going 2 years and it hasn't slowed down and I have quite a few apps installed. I get my iOS point updates diligently (something that remains an issue on Android). As for Windows, I don't know, I like Windows 10, but the upgrade cycle is starting to be a PITA.

- Improved window management - Windows 10-style window snapping is a request that pops up multiple times across the wishlist threads. As one reader points out, window management apps like Magnet are some of the most popular in the Mac App Store, suggesting this is something a lot of Mac users would like to see added to the operating system.

I'm a fan of Windows 10, but this is something that made me throw up in my mouth. I abhor the window snapping in windows, and I turn it off. Too often I am just trying to move a window out of the way, and all of the sudden it "snaps" to be full screen or something else ridiculous.

It just works < it just needs more work
Can we please go back to "It just works"?

that line was NEVER about them claiming perfection. it was a marketing line off the fact that PCs at that time required about 20 steps to be ready to use. unlike the Mac which had the OS preloaded etc so you turn on the power and 'it just works'

but feel free to keep pushing that fallacy along with the one that Apple claims their stuff can't get viruses (what they said was that they can't get Windows viruses) and that Steve Jobs hated styluses (nope, he hated them as a required tool, as an optional one they were okay)

I want a built in notification that stops me coming on Macrumors posting random comments, and getting diverted from what I should be doing........

Forget new features . . . just bring back the quality!

Every single release seems to have more and more bugs, visual errors etc . . .

iOS has the ability for messages to self-destruct after 30 days, I'd like to see this in Mac OS as well. New MBPs have smaller solid state drive and space is at a premium these days. Pictures and videos sent through Messages can take up quite a bit of space. I would like to have a feature built into MacOS where I can have it automatically delete messages after 30 days just like in iOS.

Window snapping is such a useful tool especially with displays at any size above 1080p, if they cannot provide such a simple to implement thing to there users, then they truly do not care about MacOS.

Window snapping is the FIRST thing I turned off when I moved to Windows 10 at work. It was so annoying.

I like moving my windows partially off screen and them staying there, not popping to 1/2 screen.

You can already have multiple Photo database. Just hold down the option/alt key when starting Photos, and it will ask which database you want to use, and also the option to create a new database.

Pictures are never copied into albums. There is only one original in your Photos library, and when you add it to an album, only a reference is added to the album. if you erase a picture in an album, that reference is deleted, and the original is still in your main "All photos".

Are you scrolling through all your photos manually? I can imagine that is a pain. I usually search for photos to find them quickly. You can search by date or by any of many more search options, including infortmation that has been automatically tagged for you. Try searching for cat or beach, and you'll get all photos with cats or beaches in them.

About the mail folders. Is it the orders of the folders in the sidebar you want to sort, or the mails in the folders? The latter is no problem.

The separate databases works, I've heard, until you need to move pictures from one to the other.

Mail folders: In the sidebar. Sierra seems to sort by name, but nothing earlier then that version. Or is it just because it's a new install? *sigh*

That 'snapping' feature of Windows 10 drives me InsAnE! Granted I have a light grasp on sanity most days, but the 'helpful' 'OH, LET ME MAKE THAT TAKE UP HALF THE SCREEN' feature is crazy intrusive and a pita.

And when I move a window half off screen (on to the other monitor desktop (which is turned off)) I get tired of having to turn it on just to get the dang window back! It's annoying...

Is it just me who believes that Apple invented the annual upgrade cycle of a new OS in order to drop support faster for the older Mac models, so that people buy their new products more often...?
