Operating systems have reached a mature level for features. There's not much left to add feature-wise other than tweaking existing features, which always annoys users. Unless there's a new revolutionary feature then the OS is just gonna continue to evolve things there already and consume more space.

Be that as it may, I don't see how it relates to the original demand. Whether macOS is mature or not, Apple is not going to give it away to people not buying Mac hardware, and they're not going to sell it either unless they see significant revenues in that.

I searched the thread...not one person has mentioned Photolibraryd process taking over the mac cpu for up to several days...

Apple really needs to fix the photo syncing between iCloud, MacOS, and iOS devices. Even though I've synced all 45,000+ photos and videos with my iCloud and my iphone, sometimes the mac thinks they aren't synced and it says "Uploading 45,433 Items" in the mac Photos app and between the VTEncoderXPCService and the Photolibraryd processes all off the CPU is taken with no way to delay this action.

Photo syncing from my iOS device appears to be much better behaved since the new files system was utilized on my iPhone.

So, for the next OS Apple Please:
Add APFS to MacOS
Allow us to delay/stop this syncing service so our computer is usable when we want it to be.
Or just improve the recognition between MacOS/cloud/iOS as it relates to synced photos so an entire library doesn't have to be loaded multiple times.

I'm missing the original context. Regardless, Apple killed the clone programme 20 years ago as it cannibalized Mac sales so why would they do that today? It make no marketing sense.

. . . .
Remember when Apple used to brag about how other computers forced you to work their way but Macs allowed you to work the way you prefer? Yeah. Forcing a completely unnecessary feature like that system-wide on all users is the exact opposite of allowing people to work the way they prefer.

This sums up the new Apple perfectly, "Our way or the highway." Don't care for it one bit and for the first time in forever as a mac fanboy it seems like i'm more likely moving on. The arrogance level is just too !@#$@#$ high.

IMO one of Apple's most egregious decisions to deny a user's ability to control a significant event on their computer. photoanalysisd starts automatically and Apple provides NO simple user interface to turn it off( it is possible by booting CMD R, turning off SIP and then changing files and then turning back on SIP etc. ). Apple claims they protect user security and then essentially hijacks( it runs at close to 100% CPU usage in one core ) their users machines with this process. Some might argue it only happens one time but the process can take hours and days depending on the photo library size.

Apple may claim good intentions but some of its decisions limit user options and presume its users are unable/unwilling to manage themselves. I don't believe Apple's changes are malicious but rather their attempt to build the ecosystem to sell us more services ( maybe iCloud ) and products. Nevertheless, some of their changes come across as similar to a usurping dictator removing citizen's civil rights.

I only have 1 wish list item for MacOS 12.13:

Support IOS devices.

Yes, I know that IOS is a fork of an earlier version of OS/X. And perhaps some desktop functions don't apply to IOS hardware. Yadda Yadda. Run MacOS on these devices and tune it to whatever hardware is underneath. But have the full set of MacOS functionality, as adapted to the uniquenesses of the hardware, run on IOS devices. This means replace IOS with MacOS. I just hate the way that some functionality in IOS is limited or curtailed or sandboxed or otherwise less than what is in MacOS.

Have exactly one OS running across all Apple devices (except the Watch).

Oh... and while this doesn't apply to MacOS specifically, cut the price of Apple hardware in half. Apple premium pricing has gotten out of hand. I got a Lenovo Yoga that was fully up to current tech capabilities (Sky Lake, for one) when Macs were still running n-1 tech and costing twice as much.

tweaking current osX is not the point.
developing and releasing an iOS for a combined tablet/PC is what is needed.
i am spending more and more time on my iPhone these days as the preferred device.
but input method prevents doing more on it.

Agree, I find it odd that IOS has more capabilities than MacOS.

If I have it on a phone or iPad, i should have it on the more expensive piece of hardware

Add GPS
Add a touch screen
make is so single purpose Apps can run on a Mac..

What a pointless wishlist! Let's concentrate on the basics. Take Mail: accounts should be syncable over icloud and Mail should allow more than one password on the same mail server.

We all want bugs fixed. They asked for features.

You mean like what the server version should be?

No idea, haven't tried it. Not sure if it has a generic services management utility for all the services/daemons running on the OS or specific management utilities for the extra packages included in server bundle (e.g. only for samba, wiki, etc).

I don't have too many Mac requests, but I would like to see:

  • Windows-Style snapping feature! I can't believe how many times I try doing this when switching from my work PC to my home Mac. Current Mac snapping system is cumbersome!
  • A way to turn on on my MacBook while in clamshell mode. Not even sure if this would be possible via a software update but I would like to have my MacBook in "power nap" mode and still be able to manually wake it up.
  • "Hey Siri" for Mac. At least when plugged in. Not sure why this doesn't exist yet.
  • Ability to view iPhone/iPad notifications on my Mac- even if my Mac doesn't have the app. Kinda like how the Apple Watch does it. I just wanna know when I get an iOS update when my phone and watch are away from me.
  • As a "bonus feature", I think it would be neat if I could 'reverse airplay' from my Mac to my iPhone or iPad.
'Hey Siri" would require that Apple (like microsoft) listen and record everything that you say around the computer. It's a huge security hole, and those transcripts can be requested by the NSA or data-mined for sale to 3rd parties. No thanks!

The latter.

You're probably looking for more like a launchd front-end.

if your turn up your cursor speed, this pretty much goes away since it only snaps when moving slow.

just an observation.. not saying you should have to adjust tracking speed or drag faster in order to deal with your gripe..
but, at least in the case of my setup, i have to slow down in order to get the snap.. otherwise, the feature disappears.

Thanks. I appreciate the advice but this really falls under the umbrella of forcing the user to work the way the computer dictates, and not vice-versa. That's just a very un-Apple approach to things.

I've always felt this was one of those time-honored rules in UI design. If you introduce a new feature that fundamentally changes how things function, you need to give the user a way to revert to previous behavior or switch the new feature off. You can actually disable the snapping feature by holding down the option key when you drag windows. The fact that Apple thought to give users that slightly inconvenient option but not a way to disable completely either means Apple is being unthinkably arrogant about forcing users to accept new features, or they're unthinkably oblivious to the impact even a minor change like that can have.

Either way, not good.

(similar to Windows' Maximize feature, except supposedly better able to size the window according to its contents rather than taking up the whole screen regardless).
another little feature in Sierra that's pretty cool is the ability to maximize in single directions.

instead of being content aware, it's screen size aware:

if you go to the edge of a window and get the cursor like <=> ,double-click and the window will expand to the screen edge in that direction (while maintaining its height).. do it at the bottom or top of a window and it will expand to the bottom or top of the screen (while maintaining its width).. do it with the diagonal arrows at the corner of a window and it will expand both in X & Y directions until screen edges are hit.

Strip out the out of date OpenGL base and build it up around Vulcan. Then we can start seeing some graphics improvements, and keep pace with EVERYBODY ELSE.

In my 4,1 MP, and my old 15'' MBP, I can't use Sierra... And there is nothing interesting to justify spending my money on.
So, dear Apple, maybe we have enough OS updates. Now give us some ''serious'' hardware for a change! Please?:(
