I don’t care about Xcode, if it starts running iOS apps it really isn’t a PC, because app developers won’t bother making proper programmes anymore, it doesn’t make business sense. Just make one ‘app’ for all platforms.
Well instead of dumbed down MacOS apps as everyone assumes, we can hope for desktop grade iOS apps. Then everyone would be happy.

As longs as feature list of apps is acceptable, I see only good things for the MacOS/iOS app co-developement as the userbase will be bigger. However, minor adjustments to touch/trackpads/mice is needed.

Yeah but either way the Mac would be dead as a platform.. which seems to be what the majority want? Even though you wild then have nothing to build those apps on in the first place...

They need to totally revitalize Dashboard! It has such great potential to be a full-screen overview of important information. Even simply making it into an expanded version of the "Today" widget panel would be great. But what they have now—outdated widgets—has got to go.

- Stability. Fix up random overflow bugs in finder. Make quick view work with bigger images. STABILITY!
- Add in the iOS 10 iMessage features on MacOS
- Improve boot time
- Better smart hotspot features (EG - Option not to download updates and iCloud data downloads and uploads when on a hotspot).
- Did I mention stability?

In all honesty, would rather no 10.14. It takes them a year to get 10.x stable and they eject it and start again.

This right here. We've had more problems with Sierra and High Sierra on our systems at work than I can even count

I'd love to see Apple make computers worthy of the word "Pro" for us to use this new release on.
If Mac hardware continues to have issues and Apple prefers to concentrate their efforts into iPhones, iPads, and watches, I wish they'd just license MacOS for use with non-Apple hardware and continue to prioritize MacOS development - guess they could rename it if they stop making Mac hardware. It would make an interesting Unix (BSD) system to compete with Linux and Windows on PCs. Doubt that will ever happen, but this is just a wish list.

So I'm getting regular episodes where the kernel or some other system starts consuming RAM, sometimes just 4 to 6 GB, other times up to 50GB of RAM!!!! (safari too) bringing my system to a crawl...to the point where it barely registers mouse movement or clicks at all, sometimes taking 1 minute to move the mouse...is this the kind of behavior you two are seeing?

I have replaced the standard HD with a samsung 1TB SSD so disk actions are very fast but even so, with 40GB swapping on an SSD is horrendous.

What new features are you hoping Apple adds to macOS 10.14?

Rename bluetooth devices so I can keep track of what is what, in my terms, not model numbers.

Tagging of photos with, again, my terms. i.e. Christmas 2017, Italy 2016, your mom 2018. Easier for searching through my 20,000+ photos. And no, I don't want to create albums for everything. I would probably tag 3 out of 5 photos.

How about bringing support for OpenCL/GL up to date?

How about spending a little effort so graphics cards have better drivers?

Allow Command-Control-Shift-4 to save JPG or PNG files, right now it is .TIFF files only!!! and they are huge files!!!!

FYI, regular Command-shift-4 (screenshot saves to desktop) allows for multiple file types (if you change via the commend line).

Use this to convert OS to saving screen shots in jpg. In Terminal, copy/paste the following:

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type jpg;killall SystemUIServer

A _GOOD_ package manager, and no, not the appstore. Sure Homebrew works, but something official that gets widely adopted, so that you can update all the application, libs and whatnot, no matter the vendor, in one go. After spending some time with Linux you realise how super convenient and powerful it is.

No more iOS integration. For every step closer to iOS, the system gets dumbed down and crippled. I'd rather see the iPad being a touchscreen mac than the mac being a mouse-driven ipad.

Stop the lockdown - allow system tweaks, theming and similar. Add more options for basically everything, I don't want to have my desktop layout forced on me, I want to be able to set it up to my liking.

Allow nvidia external GPUs.

Set decent fan curves so that the computers don't constantly throttle.

Touchscreen support (yes this IS useful, even if apple disagrees)

And a ton more.. Then there is the macbook pro hardware itself that has a ton of issues, really hoping they fix it up good this release.

The last thing Apple needs to do is pander to casual users on Mac's and macOS and completely destroy efficiency and productivity for professionals just to glom on iOS over-simplicity. The casual users are in the post-PC era, happily fingering their tablets and phones, but leave macOS as a professional tool used to create the content for the masses. Apple is so anti-professional these days anyways they are willfully trying to destroy any professional appeal of the entire Apple product ecosystem. What we don't need is a dumbing down of macOS, thankfully Microsoft is making iOS development on Windows more and more attractive.

Any person that can live in iPad Pro to do their job need not comment on what macOS should look like for upcoming releases.

How about something basic...like the ability to delete by right click any doc, jpeg, Aiff file....?????

Am I misunderstanding you?...Right click gives me a menu with move to trash.

Add touch support for f*ck’s sake. Every time I try to touch my screen, because I can do so on my iPad, it infuriates me that I can’t control it that way. I’ve been waiting over ten years for this to be implemented; is it never going to happen? Think of how much more money they could make by reintroducing Apple monitors with 40-inch 5K touchscreens! Get on it, please! Ugh! Or incorporate Leap Motion control...SOMETHING.
[doublepost=1527126332][/doublepost]

I disagree, but each to it's own.

What do I want?

STOP!!!

I want them to put the brakes on MacOS!

I'm serious! This schedule of a major release every year is absolutely insane. Bugs don't get fixed, features aren't thought out, and by the time a business has tested everything and is ready to upgrade, the NEXT major version is already here.

I manage an office of about 30 Macs. I have 2 or 3 on High Sierra, and hope to do our server over Memorial Day weekend. And here they're already talking 10.14? SLOW DOWN!!!

Apple is expected to preview the next-generation version of macOS, macOS 10.14, at the keynote event for the Worldwide Developers Conference, set to be held on June 4. Though the keynote is less than two weeks away, we've heard little about what we might expect to see in the new version of macOS aside from the possibility of cross-compatible Mac and iOS apps.

With so few rumors about macOS 10.14 available, we turned to the MacRumors community to ask our readers what they would like to see the most in the next version of macOS.

macos1014-800x500.jpg

[*]Unified macOS and iOS design - With rumors of apps compatible with both iOS devices and Macs, MacRumors reader Glmnet1 would also like to see a more unified design between Macs and iOS devices. What that might look like is unclear, and while it could happen at some point, it's not likely for this year as we're not expecting major design changes with iOS 12 or macOS 10.14.
[*]Apple iOS apps for Mac - In the same vein, based on cross platform app rumors, several MacRumors readers would like to see iOS-exclusive apps like Apple News, Health, Activity, and Home made available on the Mac. A dedicated Apple Music app that's separate from iTunes is also on at least one reader's wishlist, as is an improved version of iTunes.
[*]HomeKit - A way to control HomeKit devices on Mac is a highly requested feature, either through the aforementioned Home app for the Mac or through Siri. At the current time, while Siri is available on macOS, the personal assistant can't control HomeKit devices from the Mac.
[*]Complications as Menu Bar items - Complications are limited to the Apple Watch, but since the device's debut, Apple Watch users have been hoping for their expansion to other platforms, including macOS and iOS. MacRumors reader ButteryScrollin would like Apple Watch-style complications to be added to the Mac's Menu Bar, introducing new quick-access shortcuts.
[*]Split-Screen improvements - MacRumors reader bmac89 would like some iPad-like improvements to the Mac's split-screen functionality, with options for dragging to resize or dismiss a split-screen view, opening apps into a split-screen view from the Dock or Spotlight, and initiating split-screen in the same way.
[*]APFS improvements - With macOS High Sierra, Apple introduced a new Apple Filesystem. The rollout of APFS was something of a nightmare for Apple customers who have Fusion drives that combine SSDs with traditional hard drives, and to this day, Apple has not implemented APFS support for Fusion drives. MacRumors reader Ncrypt would also like to see Apple use APFS to allow for macOS updates to install in the background to cut down on installation times.
[*]Group FaceTime - Group FaceTime is on both the macOS 10.14 and iOS 12 wishlists, and while it's something Apple is rumored to be working on, it's not clear if this is a feature that's ready for debut.

As with iOS 12, many readers listed performance and stability improvements at the top of their wishlists for macOS 10.14, and it's likely this is on Apple's to-do list as well. Apple is rumored to have delayed some macOS 10.14 and iOS 12 features to 2019 in order to focus on internal improvements following a slew of high-profile bugs that have impacted iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra.

What new features are you hoping Apple adds to macOS 10.14? Let us know in the comments. Make sure you check out our macOS 10.14 roundup for more on what we might see in the update, including possible naming choices. We've also got a separate iOS 12 wishlist that has a list of what MacRumors readers are hoping will come to iOS in 2018.

Jesus christ almighty I just want the thing to be rock solid and reliable again. Please. No more weird screens on wake. No more weird memory management. No more crazy CPU absorbing sync processes, rewrite the damn Messages app. Please! STABILITY.

Dark UI system wide, Apple Photos needs pro features and manual customization for syncing, Messages should get all the look and function of iOS, a standalone podcast app, iTunes slimmed down just for music, renamed Music, dual monitor use improved.

I'd love to see Apple fix the default settings on Notifications. For a company that is focusing more and more on security and privacy, the fact that macOS defaults to "Show Notifications on Lock Screen" is a glaring contradiction; this is incredibly insecure for anyone using a Mac in an office environment. Even if you set all of your applications to only show notifications when the computer is unlocked, you have to remember to manually do this for any new application that you may install. While I'm not big on increasing the iOS-ification of macOS, I'm surprised Apple hasn't borrowed how iOS asks you if you want Notifications from each application at first launch (at which point it could prompt you to customize how you want them to behave if you say yes). --Or even if Apple just implemented a "notifications template" so that you could turn off settings like "show on lock screen" by default unless you specifically enable it for a particular application.
