I would like to see an app that tells me if my keyboard is malfunctioning or if I'm just imagining it. :D

Apple is expected to preview the next-generation version of macOS, macOS 10.14, at the keynote event for the Worldwide Developers Conference, set to be held on June 4. Though the keynote is less than two weeks away, we've heard little about what we might expect to see in the new version of macOS aside from the possibility of cross-compatible Mac and iOS apps.

With so few rumors about macOS 10.14 available, we turned to the MacRumors community to ask our readers what they would like to see the most in the next version of macOS.

macos1014-800x500.jpg

[*]Unified macOS and iOS design - With rumors of apps compatible with both iOS devices and Macs, MacRumors reader Glmnet1 would also like to see a more unified design between Macs and iOS devices. What that might look like is unclear, and while it could happen at some point, it's not likely for this year as we're not expecting major design changes with iOS 12 or macOS 10.14.
[*]Apple iOS apps for Mac - In the same vein, based on cross platform app rumors, several MacRumors readers would like to see iOS-exclusive apps like Apple News, Health, Activity, and Home made available on the Mac. A dedicated Apple Music app that's separate from iTunes is also on at least one reader's wishlist, as is an improved version of iTunes.
[*]HomeKit - A way to control HomeKit devices on Mac is a highly requested feature, either through the aforementioned Home app for the Mac or through Siri. At the current time, while Siri is available on macOS, the personal assistant can't control HomeKit devices from the Mac.
[*]Complications as Menu Bar items - Complications are limited to the Apple Watch, but since the device's debut, Apple Watch users have been hoping for their expansion to other platforms, including macOS and iOS. MacRumors reader ButteryScrollin would like Apple Watch-style complications to be added to the Mac's Menu Bar, introducing new quick-access shortcuts.
[*]Split-Screen improvements - MacRumors reader bmac89 would like some iPad-like improvements to the Mac's split-screen functionality, with options for dragging to resize or dismiss a split-screen view, opening apps into a split-screen view from the Dock or Spotlight, and initiating split-screen in the same way.
[*]APFS improvements - With macOS High Sierra, Apple introduced a new Apple Filesystem. The rollout of APFS was something of a nightmare for Apple customers who have Fusion drives that combine SSDs with traditional hard drives, and to this day, Apple has not implemented APFS support for Fusion drives. MacRumors reader Ncrypt would also like to see Apple use APFS to allow for macOS updates to install in the background to cut down on installation times.
[*]Group FaceTime - Group FaceTime is on both the macOS 10.14 and iOS 12 wishlists, and while it's something Apple is rumored to be working on, it's not clear if this is a feature that's ready for debut.

As with iOS 12, many readers listed performance and stability improvements at the top of their wishlists for macOS 10.14, and it's likely this is on Apple's to-do list as well. Apple is rumored to have delayed some macOS 10.14 and iOS 12 features to 2019 in order to focus on internal improvements following a slew of high-profile bugs that have impacted iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra.

What new features are you hoping Apple adds to macOS 10.14? Let us know in the comments. Make sure you check out our macOS 10.14 roundup for more on what we might see in the update, including possible naming choices. We've also got a separate iOS 12 wishlist that has a list of what MacRumors readers are hoping will come to iOS in 2018.

Article Link: macOS 10.14 Wishlist: Features MacRumors Readers Hope to See in the Next Version of macOS
1. Fix the sloppy compatibility between APFS & HFS+ or as Apple calls it, my Fusion Drive.
2. Give iBooks a brain. Try opening a pdf from iBooks, edit it, save and close back to iBooks. Surprise, you still have only the original. Give iBooks a brain.

I'd like to be able to watch 4K video in YouTube in Safari. I have to use Chrome at the moment.

Fix that crappy slow useless Mac App Store. It's so slow. I miss the old Apple Update Window.

Better photos updates, they should look at Aperture and remind themselves at how good they used to be at making professional apps!

Increased Touch Bar controls.

Real long shot, but Chromecast support in quicktime.

I actually would like to be able to use some iOS apps on the Mac. Maybe even in a Dashboard kinda view? There's a few handy apps that would be cool to use.

PLEASE fix the DisplayLink, has Apple blocked it to force users to buy eGPUs?

I have a 10 year old Windows laptop that runs multiple monitors better than my brand new MacBookPro. If it wasn't for final cut i'd have sold this Apple Lemon.

How about official Nvidia support for eGPUs???? That way, those of us who need to use Cuda powered apps won't have to hack our $2000+ machines.

That alone would make me happy.

No, it’s my favourite change in macOS. When apps don’t support it, it’s a pain. What’s bad about auto save?
You must not work in graphics (or content creation). Most graphics apps have rightly disabled this feature but I sometimes use Preview or iBooksAuthor and it frustrates me to no end. I have often opened a file and then changed things to see how it looks but in the end I decide it was better the way it was before. Now I have to undo a ton of times because if I just close the document (which would be faster and would make sense) it saves the file, even with things I don't want saved. To me it is one of those things that Apple has dumbed down too far, give me the power to decide when I want to save and when I don't. I can see how it would be useful to some people but for many it is a pain. Why not have a preference setting?

I would like to see an app that tells me if my keyboard is malfunctioning or if I'm just imagining it. :D

Don't Apple flicker the black light constantly for this. ? if not implemented, would be good.

How could anyone ignore a constant flicker in ya face.

I'd love it if you could search for a string of text in a file name, and have the result actually work in a logical way.

It's baffling that you can do such a search and prove that the machine is not giving you an accurate result simply by navigating manually to the file that was omitted in the search results.

This has bothered me for years! And it's too silly to mention almost!

Another one - Why not get Eudora running on an antique Mac. Just duplicate all the capabilities from Eudora and put them into Apple "Mail" application. Nobody thought of that one eh? World is dumber and dumber and never seems to get the point on these things. That's what this Macrumors blah blah wants from Mac OS Blah blah.

I don't get the APFS issue of installing updates in the background.... As you must configure updates before restart... you can't do that on a logged in system.

Are you kidding me? Who wants any of this garbage? How about fixing the awful bugs in the Finder or restoring Console to something that is useful to anyone but an Apple employee?

Bad idea.

Yes please.:)

Add touch support for f*ck’s sake. Every time I try to touch my screen, because I can do so on my iPad, it infuriates me that I can’t control it that way. I’ve been waiting over ten years for this to be implemented; is it never going to happen? Think of how much more money they could make by reintroducing Apple monitors with 40-inch 5K touchscreens! Get on it, please! Ugh! Or incorporate Leap Motion control...SOMETHING.

What's that yellow strip on this MBP, seems like double sided tape:

It’s the Gold-ness.

I’d rather see basic Finder functionality working properly, like the option to “right size all columns individually” in column view.

As of now it only works for one column (same as to double click on the column border) - completely useless. When you continue to navigate folders all columns are again of the same size.

This has been broken since Mavericks (my very first Mac OS).

I guess I am asking too much from Apple.

Its been this way since Tiger when I started using it. I want this too it doesnt make sense not to have.

Congratulations on turning the Mac into an iPad. Being a mere developer who only needs the system to be logical and functional, I'm out.

PS: What did TextEdit and the Color meter do to you?
Absolutely nothing, like 95% percent of users. Why can't they just add whatever functional TextEdit.app has into the Notes.app, why have two apps that do about the same thing? Thats all I'm calling for, as for the other "pro" apps, why can't Apple just offer those on the App Store, and for the 5% percent of users who use them, they can download them.

Fix the damn MAIL program! It's been broken for years. Every update loses server settings. Fixing those is worse than a trip to the dentist! If you have like a dozen email accounts for businesses/personal, etc, remember all your server settings and passwords is nearly impossible. At any given time, I have at least one email account that will not SEND MAIL AT ALL! This is ridiculous and gone on long enough. UGH! :mad:

I had to switch to AirMail 3. Not perfect, but Mail just couldn't work properly anymore.

I'm surprised very few people talk about the Messages app on macOS. It should like more like the iOS version! With the same interaction (including iMessages apps).

Improved Mac App Store is definitely needed (with a Wish List, but again, that's just a wish that will never happen).

I've been dreaming of Reminders appearing in my Calendar. Some 3rd party apps do that, but I don't see the point of buying a 80$ app and installing new apps on my other devices just for that.

But well, I'm ready to be surprised at the announcement!

A way to prevent iCloud drive from syncing over certain networks (like a wifi cellular tether).

A way to create a folder on iCloud drive and map it to multiple macs rather than being limited to syncing stuff that needs to waste space on my Macs.

MS used to dumb down their apps if you didn't pay their windows tax and used a Mac
They still do :mad:

It's true that full-fledged apps on MacOS are frequently not on par with Windows versions (even for primary use case apps such as MS Office), but I also see the potential power of cross-platform unification. Consider all of the apps we currently use, especially on the iPad. Facebook? Financial/Banking? Games? Home Automation? They are all on the iPad! Now imagine that with the flip of a switch (proverbially...) we could run those exact same apps on MacOS. To me that is a big win. It's not a final solution for every app, but it could instantly make MacOS more useful.
Nobody is disputing having an application available for both iPad and Mac.

The green traffic light is fullscreen and split screen, Option click for zoom (to size you've set) and restore.

Reduce Option key overload. Apple keeps hiding so many commands behind Option key shorcuts: hidden menu commands, hidden dialog box buttons. And how are people supposed to know when there is a hidden command in the first place? Does Apple expect users to become professional Option key hunters who spend their time holding down Option key over every pixel on the screen to see the latest hidden commands? This is right in line with people's complaints about Apple dumbing down the Mac OS in a misguided attempt at simplification. It is misguided because hiding those buttons and menu commands makes Mac OS more frustrating to use. There needs to be a standardized user interface element in every menu and every dialog box to serve the purpose of telling the user "Hold Option key to see additional items". Better yet, don't hide those menu commands or buttons in the first place!

macOS Wishlist - DONT GET TOO TRIGGERED!

Interesting list. I have repeated some of your list below and added a - to respond or ask questions about each item. If I did not list it again here, I either agree with the idea or have no opinion.

Apps
* Contacts.app removed and functionality merged into new Phone.app
- I very rarely call people, but do send email to lots of people and need physical addresses. Separate Contacts app makes sense for me.
* Weather.app added
- why a separate app instead of a widet in the Today area (that sidebar thingy that slides out from the right side of screen)?
* Clock.app added
- Clock is in the menubar and in the Today area
* Photo Booth.app removed and functionality merged into new Camera.app
* Health.app added
- what is this app supposed to do since the computer has no health-related sensors?
* Dictionary.app removed
- I use Dictionary a lot. It is especially useful when you add translation dictionaries like CEDICT that will pronounce the chinese words for you.
* Chess.app removed
- Why?
* Stickies.app removed
- Why? lots of people still use this
* TextEdit.app removed
- A text editor is a must have on a computer. What replacement do you propose?
* Image Capture.app removed and functionality merged into Photos.app
- Image Capture is for more than just photos. It also provides an interface for local and networked scanners.
* Finder.app renamed Files.app
- As long as this is a wishlist, I want all the functionality of Path Finder by Cocoatech in your new Files.app
* Preview.app removed and functionality merged into Photos.app, and Files.app
- I want the preview app to remain and to regain the functionality it used to have that allowed us to open many PDF files in the same Preview window so we could print them all without actually having to combine them.
* QuickTime Player.app removed and functionality merged into new TV.app, Music.app and include a native video player in the new Files.app
- What about the functionality of recording your screen, iphone, and audio using Quicktime? Where should those go?
* Grab.app removed and functionality merged into keyboard shortcut.
- I almost always use the keyboard shortcut, but Grab has the ability to get the screenshot after a specified amount of time. That is very useful in cases where tooltips will not stay visible very long.
* VoiceOver Utility.app removed
- What will replace it's functionality. Some people rely on VoiceOver.
* Keychain Access.app removed and functionality merged into new ‘Password Manager’ in Settings.app
- Will your Password Manager also manage SSH keys, PKI keys, certificates, etc?
* Grapher.app removed
- Why? This is a great app for math students.
* Audio MIDI Setup.app removed
- Why?
* Support.app added
- What is Support.app supposed to do?
* Launchpad.app removed
- Why? Launchpad is very convenient
* Digital Color Meter.app removed
- How will you determine the color value of an image or text. E.G. you need to create corporate templates based on the logo colors.
* ColorSync Utility.app removed
- How do we get monitors, cameras, scanners, and printers all color synced without it?

Features
* Control Center added
- What it is supposed to do? Replace the menu items that allow you turn things on/off?
* Widget Center added
- The today area on the right is already pretty much a widget center. What is different?
* Merge ‘Trash’ into a new section in the new Files.app, and in that section show all ’Recently Deleted’ files from apps that have that feature built in, ex. Notes or Photos, and remove Trash.app from dock
- What happens to files handled by apps without the "Recently Deleted" functionality built-in?
* Universal apps between macOS and iOS
- I agree that it would be nice to be able to run some iOS apps on my Mac, but the Mac should be able to run apps that are more complex than those for the iPad or iPhone.

UI/UX
* Mail.app redesigned to be more like Messages.app
- Strongly disagree. Mail.app is almost perfect in my opinion.
* Apps in the dock don’t also show up in Launchpad
- You wanted to get rid of Launchpad anyway.

* Red, Yellow, Green buttons:
  • Red: Fully Quits application
  • Yellow: Minimizes application
  • Green: Fullscreen application - (keep ability to old-school maximize by pressing Option key)
* To access minimized apps you use a gesture to open a “Multitasking’ view that shows all apps running in the background
- We already have this now, but it shows all the apps running, not just the ones in the background.
