Thank you "K two" for trying to be helpful. Neither of the two suggestions are true, because I always stayed within the Patched Sur app and the on-screen pop-ups provided, and I never downloaded anything outside GitHub. Fighting through another sleepless night, I managed to create a USB installer, and finally I succeeded in installing 11.4. Notice that I am grateful to BenSova for the wonderful Patched Sur (which I feel is still short from perfect, and could benefit from further "polishing"). The version of Patched Sur was the right one, and the same that produced the final success.

I was less amused by insinuations that I was lying about what happened with ClamXAV detecting a "virus".

This is exactly what happened in my case (even though others here said it did not happen to them, and that their unpaid trial versions of ClamXAV did not report a "virus"). I understand now that using Hax6.dylib is "a technique" that can indeed (also) be used for malicious purposes. This was a learning experience for me as "a newbie" even if I joined this Forum in November 2007, so I have been here longer than most ;-)😇
Lying? You were out-of-date. Seems to me, in many ways. Peace, Mr.2007.🤫

Noted. Yeah post #467 if Catalina thread gave me lots of insight to this issue. That means we are now downgraded as we have only usb2.0 ports and todays external usb enclosure comes with usb3.0 but the write/read speed we will get will be poor specially while using BigSur or Catalina.
My only requirement is for taking backups of Time Machine. I am not keen in booting out of ext ssd which is way too slower.

only other way is to get a thunderbolt enclosure or ext drive which is way too expensive.
Try 256GB USB-2 plugs for Time Machine? Work great here. SD cards on the iMac, too. 👀👍🏻

Wow, that's great. I manage four 21.5" 2011 iMacs and am disappointed that they are stuck on High Sierra (even though I almost always have them booted to Windows 10). Somehow despite being used for years (though not for anything that intensive) they have working graphics cards. I'm in no rush (would like something done well rather than half-baked) but look forward to giving this a try. Hope it will work with my setup of booting off a TB3 NVMe drive (I'm concerned about the possibility of breaking the iMacs if I open them up, so need something like the hard drive or coin battery to fail probably before I'll take that risk). I'm currently booting the machine I use off a TB3 NVMe drive but plan to boot the others off those as well, especially if booting Big Sur becomes a viable option.
You could have changed the internal GPU with a metal capable version in your iMac11.2 for a long time. These OpenGL patches may bring back graphics acceleration but while Apple and the software vendors are marching forward more and more metal enabled apps will hit the road opening a gap you cannot close.
But you need top open it :)

Also, for anyone not on the Discord servers, we -- myself, OCLP devs, and @moosethegoose2213 -- have been recently experimenting with AMD Radeon 5xxx/6xxx accel.

View attachment 1785619

Consider it pre-alpha at this point, but hopefully it'll be a viable upgrade from High Sierra in the foreseeable future.
Will the @dosdude1 Mojave and Catalina Legacy video card patches get updated if finally working? 🧐

Well these 2011 iMacs of mine will be almost always running Windows 10 anyway. If most things work on Big Sur that’ll probably be good enough for when I want to run that. I’m concerned about breaking something doing the GPU upgrade so I think I’ll only consider trying that if the GPU fails.

I may end up just getting some newer Intel Macs that natively support Big Sur rather than continuing to rely on ageing Macs for critical work computers.

Hello everyone! Today we're proud to release OpenCore Legacy Patcher v0.1.6!

This release features some note worthy changes:
  • Fix Photos app distortion on legacy GPUs
  • Allow custom SMBIOS overriding
  • Support Minimal SMBIOS spoofing on El Capitan era Macs
  • Fix GPU Switching on MacBookPro6,x
And many more smaller changes, hope everyone enjoys the new release!

Additionally today I wanted to discuss a bit regarding our plans for macOS 12 support. We know WWDC is next monday and we're eagerly awaiting to see what Apple has in store for us. However as an organization, we feel it's best to not rush with experimental OpenCore Legacy Patcher builds until we feel comfortable releasing to the public.

With this in mind, we've decided to allow users to configure their build settings more. Specifically we now add -lilubetaall arg by default in OpenCore builds to allow for experimental OS support as well as a new option in Patcher Settings to override SMBIOS spoofs. This means that while our current SMBIOS selection could be dropped by Apple, enthusiasts can experiment with other, newer SMBIOS for OS support.

And our find bit of news, thought we'd tease a bit of TeraScale 2 acceleration progress. As always it's our amazing ASentientBot that was able to pull this feat off:

There is a debate about whether bits 0x10 and 0x800 in csr-active-config prevent macOS updates.

Some people and webpages who really should know (e.g. https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/11553-how-do-i-disable-sip-system-integrity-protection/ ) are stating that 0x10 prevents updates period, and that 0x800 prevents incremental (but not full) OTA updates.

But other people are reporting that they've got those bits set, and that they're getting updates fine anyway!

If anybody is using SIP disabled most of the time, but is getting OTA updates (and especially incremental OTA updates) I'd be very interested to know your csr-active-config value (as reported by nvram csr-active-config).

I don't want to spam the whole list, so perhaps PM me.

Many thanks in advance for any replies!
The AppleInternal bit definitely breaks all Big Sur OTA updates, but not updates for anything else (ie. Safari, etc). This is because when the AppleInternal bit is set, the process involved in Big Sur OTAs switches to using an internal server (which has no DNS entry on public DNS), and since that server is not publicly available, it fails. (Redirecting it back to the normal server works fine.) However, things like Safari use a different update mechanism, and they're not affected. Catalina and lower aren't affected either, as they exclusively use the other mechanism - only Big Sur OTAs are broken (whether deltas or the full 12GB downloads that I like to call the "full bundle", for lack of a better term).

I'll check authenticated root/0x800 later, but I doubt it'll change anything. That bit's probably just a red herring with the real cause being broken seal.

Any progress on hd 3000 intel acceleration on mabook air 4,2 as its still broken even after applying legacy patch. Cant open photos or images as it creates color distortion. Tks for all your efforts appreciate what you have done for us old mac owners.
If this is specifically in the Photos app, then try the latest OCLP build. I've included a fix for that.

If you're getting system-wide color weirdness, try changing from "billions" to "millions" of colors in, e.g. SwitchResX.

Most likely. He said on Discord that he'd update the patchers once the fixes are ready. I've tested on Mojave and Big Sur (not Catalina yet) and it's almost on par with other non-Metal GPUs, except for a few extra bugs. For example, screen recordings and VNC are currently broken. So I'd like to fix that if possible.

Can't give an ETA yet, but feel free to join the Unsupported Macs or OCLP server on Discord if you want to keep up with our progress! So far we've only tried the patches on my Hackintosh (5850) and @moosethegoose2213's iMac (6750m?), so we'll need more testers at some point.

Bonsoir,

Big Sur 11.5 Beta 2 (20G5033c) + OCLP v0.1.6 + OC v0.7.0 (3d15506) => OK

I didn't manage to put my personal icon for Ubuntu Mate, I did put the name of the icon (without .icns) in Flavour of my Linux entry, without change (I must have missed something again...).

Thank you for your time and effort. Truly impressive work and the rest. Saving kilotons of old Macs from the Recycle bin and providing useful learning for many. Good job. 👍🏻👍🏻 Will test on iMac11,3 HD5670, soon.

Well this update seems to have done it for my MacPro 5,1 and 11.4. It booted successfully 5 times in a row from a HDD via SATA2 bus. This is very promising and will have to try updating from 11.2.3 (2.5" SSD via PCIe) OTA this weekend when I have more time.

1 thing i've noticed about 11.3.x and 1.4... It only accepts an Apple mouse after a fresh installation and in recovery. It won't even accept a wired mouse... but the mouse does charge while plugged in. Could this an issue with OCLP or just Apple being Apple? My mouse connects via bluetooth, wire (for charging), and Slipstream. The Slipstream dongle is used on a PC but works fine with 11.2.3 too. Once 11.4 reaches the desktop the Slipstream dongle works (never worked in 11.3.x).

No Apple mouse here... can't stand them.

Interesting observation:

I am able to get sidecar on my 2012 13"map and it runs surprisingly well via this "unsupported" install of Big Sur

Meanwhile, on my 2015 15" maxed out MBP, I can not access Sidecar no matter what I do (old methods no longer work)

I am tempted to run this patched version on my machine that still gets the official updates from Apple

Anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks @dhinakg . This test from this morning matches your thoughts about 0x800:

Set the OC_ATTR_USE_FLAVOUR_ICON bit in PickerAtrributes?

If that's still not working, then if you use a debug version of OC (with Target=67 set in config.plist to enable logging) and scan the log files it produces, then you can see what icon files it is trying to load and fix it that way.

In case you're not aware, to switch between DEBUG and RELEASE versions, you can just copy X64/EFI from the zip file directly over your live OC EFI dir - it doesn't overwrite any config or personalisation files.

Yes, also waiting to see what will happen with macOS 12.

There is talk of more mac models officially supported will drop off. Hope OCLP will come to the rescue.

Also hope that 2012-13 models will make it across to macOS 12 with OCLP.
