🤔OTA UPDATE😱

I think that sometimes we get a little lost in our "in house" terms, abbreviations and jargon here, and we forget that a competent newcomer may not know that OTA stands for Over The Air, and that just means "the way a Mac or Windows or iOS device normally updates." OTA is a techy way of saying "the normal way of updating."

New people will understand more quickly sometimes if we just write "over the air" or "update via software preferences" instead of "OTA." 😉

First of all, thank you for all the hard work that’s gone into this whole project! Revived an amazing 2011 17” MBP, working great.

Slight problem though. And please believe me, I’ve scoured the googles for answers. This machine will not sleep when the lid closes. It also keeps waking every 30 seconds when sleep setting is set to 1 min.

Big Sur 11.2.3
OCLP 0.4.1
8,3 2.2ghz QC w/ 8gb ram
GPU Disabled

Anyone have any ideas? Strangely everything works fine on a 8,2 I’ve revived including brightness control. Which doesn’t work on this machine.

Am I missing something about this one?

I need a little help please.

I installed BigSur in my macbook7,1 using OCLP. All is working great expect the trackpad.

In deed, I cannot configure pressure because I don't have access to the usual panel of configuration.

I only have this one attached (searching for an external BT trackpad).

If you don't have brightness control and sleep isn't working, you need to (re)install the Root Volume Patches via OCLP.

Updated an iMac12,2 (K3100M) from 11.6.2 to 11.6.3 via OTA with OCLP v0.3.3. It went all the way just before the login screen: stuck at 1/4 the progress bar. I then tried the safe mode which successfully reached to the login screen and subsequently logged in and even updated the safari to 15.3. But it still stuck at the same place with normal booting. I've done NVRAM reset and even tried single mode but still not be able to pass that 'stuck' point.
I am running out idea now ... Your help will be much appreciated.

Update1: tried OCLP v0.4.1, did not make any difference. Also tried reinstalling 11.6.3 via OCLP recovery mode. And safe mode still works though😵

Update2: Installed 12.2 OTA on top of 11.6.3 and also still stuck before the login screen and the safe mode still works😥 The stuck point varies after turning on OCLP verbose. Just wonder if there is some cache I can delete in safe mode so that the iMac can boot in normal mode? (I vaguely remember someone might have mentioned this before but I don't remember the details.)

Update3: After deleting all the files in /Library/Extensions/ , the iMac boots up in normal mode now! A good sleep does make a difference😅

Thank for responding. Doesn't seem to work no matter what I do. Would it matter that this particular system had the dGPU disabled at board level? I had it done by a guy I know who does that stuff. When I got it back a few other things didn't work, but then OCLP brought back all the things that were making it unstable. Like acceleration. Well...mostly acceleration.

Everything else is working great just won't sleep and the brightness control. Interestingly it will sleep when left alone, then wake up a minute later, on it's own.

But in theses days every, every user here should be able to feed such a term into a search machine and look it up. We cannot start explaining every term used here again and again. Reading and writing are two key cultural technologies everybody needs to master and use once in a while.

Correct! But we can also make it as easy as possible for new comers to understand using plain English. Writing “update via system preferences” takes approximately 2 seconds longer to write than “OTA”, so it’s no sweat off my back to take 2 extra seconds…..and then suddenly the knowledge becomes accessible to many more people.

Language, at its heart, is about communication, so I vote for communicating in a way that helps the most people understand. 😉

on that note, it also only takes 2 seconds to google 'OTA update'...but I digress, I'm a newb.

You can’t blame everyone for thinking “what the hell are these MacRumors people talking about?” when the top hit for OTA on google is the Orthopedic Trauma Association.

Just make sure the next time you update via OTA to stop by your local orthopedic trauma association. They do macOS updates like no one can.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Maybe adding a Glossary at the first page solves the problem?

You can do better than this! Try apple OTA update again. You can be lucky not to use logical operators, the usual search machines do this automatically.

BTW: If I start typing apple ota auto completion suggests to add update….

We can agree on the fact that on one will be able to know everything. When I was a kid I had to fetch an encyclopedia from the book shelf and look things up. Now you just have to use the same fingers (typing a quick question into a forum) and do a half smart search and a little more reading to get this done.

But it is so much more easy to blame others because they use weird acronyms when talking about specials topics. Hope you will be sane your whole live! When you ever enter a hospital for a servere reason you will be flooded with greek and latin words all day long. You can ask the doctors to add a glossary at the entrance of the hospital.

MBP5,2 17".
Installed 11.6.3 over 11.6.2 from InstallAssistant.pkg.
Using OCLP 0.4.1 for booting the installer, installation, post-install volume patch.

This is on one partition of the internal SATA SSD.
Likewise, installed 12.2 over 12.1 on the other partition of that disk.

So I now have two very useful macOSs on this mid 2009 machine. Looks like a plateau of good stability of Big Sur, Monterey and OCLP is reached.

Great thanks to all OCLP contributors.

Hi, I can see update possibility in system preferences from 11.6.2 to 11.6.3. But this is not 2 GB update, it's 12 GB update... So what is the best solution now? 1. Just update via softare update in system preferences? 2. Update via 11.6.3 on pendrive? 3 Update via 11.6.3 on pendrive with OCLP? In my MacBookPro I have 11.6.2 OS with OCLP 025 installed on internal disk with OS.
