You sure about that?

Yep...this was the first thing I noticed.

It just feels like the software department isn't talking to hardware.
The reasoning I remember reading was that aligning it exactly would actually look more weird due to an optical illusion kind of thing created by the merging of the separate lines, don't recall exactly what it was.

I have faced a weird issue on my menu bar from 12.0.1. When I connect my external monitor, and switch back the menu bar icons are somehow spaced out with a lot of gap area and they reach the notch.

See attached. Anyone else facing this or has a fix?

And this is how it looks after it fixes itself once I close an app and remove an icon.

I'm hoping that the USB Hub issues are fixed. Satech, and others are either non-functional or intermittent. They worked just fine with previous MacOS versions. I would like to think that USB functionality would be a key feature for a new OS update - but, I would be wrong

It would be nice if there were better native menu bar management, like how toolbars are so easy to edit. Or even adding folders or hiding etc like Bartender, similar.

I don't mind the notch, but seriously...

How was something this important not a priority for Apple when they knew they were going to release a laptop with this design quirk?

Making sure all icons worked great with the notch from day-one seems beyond obvious.

I agree that its weird how apple auto wrapped menu bar items but not menu bar icons.

Go and try it and come back to me, it’s shocking it’s face smoothing is terrible and it’s not sharp at all
The image is over processed, and with any luck Apple will provide options in the future to turn this processing off. There is nothing wrong with the hardware.

I'm having the exact same problem, only happens on the built in monitor if I have "one too many" icons there. Really annoying.

Can we just get an option to drop the menu bar below the notch! It's really a mess still! The size of this notch was just not needed! Apple missed it big time.

I'll give up the so called extra space for a flat menu bar edge with the full width of the display can offer.

There's a toggle in the "Get Info" section for every app where you can choose this behavior (block out the top 74px bar and put the menubar below it), or so I've heard (I don't have one yet). And I've heard mention of a number of third party apps that do this globally.

I feel like they could’ve avoided this issue altogether by making the bezel at the top a tiny bit thicker and making the bottom thinner to compensate and keep the screen size.

When did they rename them from "status menus", or was that never the real name?

It’s not random. I think it’s an intentional design decision.
I tested it out - essentially when the number of menu bar items reaches a threshold, it increases the spacing so that they distribute evenly across the bar from edge of notch to edge of screen.

If there are too few (so that the spacing between each would be too wide) it keeps them neatly aligned to the edge of screen.

Not sure what the exact thresholds are but it’s very consistent and definitely not random.

There was no need for the ugly notch when the webcam is so bad if it was amazing then I would be happy with it, the webcam is terrible quality so it could of been in the small bezel like on dell
What's funny here is that the screen is larger than the standard ratio to fit that entire bar that would have been a bezel...then the notch was added to that...along with a webcam better than any other you're going to find in a laptop. Even if it was a broken webcam that didn't work, you'd still have more space than if they didn't create that bar.
