Maybe you need to remove and reapply post-install root patches because the Nvidia card needed patches which cause problems for the AMD drivers now?
Good idea, but I have no keyboard or mouse access immediately after I am able to log in on the problem cMP

However!

I do have a second macPro 5,1 with the same AMD Radeon Sapphire RX580 Graphics Card, so I'll attempt to do that with the drives on the macPro 4,1-5,1, assuming the post-install root patches are applied to the SSD drive with the OS.

I'll report back soon in case this helps anyone else who ends up with a similar problem.

This made no difference. - I still cannot use the wired keyboard or mouse after logging in. The machine freezes.

I also checked the disk was not corrupt - It boots successfully on my other macPro 5,1 and can be used on that machine.

I have also tested the Monterey disk from the working 5,1, in my macPro 4,1->5,1, and it does not progress beyond allowing me to log in. On this problem machine, Mojave and a newly created High Sierra work when booting natively.

I tried putting the Nvidia GT 640 card back in the macPro 4,1->5,1 machine, but I still cannot get past being able to log in with OpenCore 2.4.0 before the machine freezes at that point. I have tried a different USB hub, but it did not help.

I tried switching out the graphics card for the original non-metal card and ran the Apple Hardware test - no problems were detected - so I put the Nvidia card back into it.

So it's only with Opencore Legacy Patcher 2.4.0 that I am having this problem - booting into Native systems, Mojave, High Sierra, and El Capitan works.

I am hoping that someone has a solution??? - I am stuck!

Thanks in advance if you do.

tried once and failed. Tried again but nuke & paved the internal 1st, since I had data b.u.
Round trip ~ an hour.
Only thing that remains is getting verbose to stop even though I toggled the box.
Boot to log-in ~50s. Another ~ 30s to desktop.
Doesn't seem sluggish to last official OS, Big Sur.
Now to load b.u. and see if any apps surprise me.

Nice work Mykola Grymalyuk & Dhinak and team. Good luck Mykola.

Tried port in the front?

Hello, guys I would really appreciate some help here, 'cause I didn't follow the old rule "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and got stuck. Tried searching too, nothing seems to fit my case reasonably (maybe I am wrong?).

Here is quick background. iMac11,2 (21' Mid-2010), High Sierra. 1) I install OCLP to internal SSD, upgrade to Firepro M5100, it is working great (Metal and all). 2) I create Monterey Installer with OCLP, do "Upgrade", Monterey installs, it is working great. 3) I decide I want to wipe the system (why, oh why did I do that?) and clean-install Monterey (same OCLP-created USB). Monterey installation starts, I format the SSD, the installer completes, but then, after reboot, when it is supposed to begin post-installation stuff (making a username/password etc.) it shows me plain yellow screen with mouse pointer and... nothing.

What I have tried: 1) Reinstalling - changes nothing, still yellow screen and pointer. 2) Resetting PRAM/NVRAM - changes nothing. 3) Safe Mode (Shift+Enter in Efi boot) - loading hangs at Apple logo and progress bar at about 1/3 of the way (couldn't find the way to launch verbose boot into Safe Mode from Efi boot - it is ether verbose or Safe Mode). Changing the GPU (yes, at some point I thought I fried the first one, so I bought another one, thankfully they are not very expensive now) - nothing.

What is the most annoying of all is that because m5100 does not report its temps to SMC correctly, and you need Macs Fan Control to keep it cool (which is of course not available in installation environment), the system gets pretty damn hot and I need to stop my investigation efforts and turn off every 20 min or so for about an hour. Also, I have no easy access to another set up Mac to create a new installer.

Any ideas will be very very much appreciated!

If you can edit the config.plist of OpenCore add radpg=15 to the boot-args.
If you have another Mac build and install OpenCore for target iMac11,3 and pick the GPU family type GCN from settings->misc settings->GPU selection.

This card needs special OC settings to run macOS and these are only set correctly when running OCLP on macOS on the same machine with the same hardware - this can become a catch 22 - so these manual selection has been added.

Edit: Does not matter which EFI and which config.plist you are going to edit, just make sure to boot the changed one!

Thank you for your reply! Good point b.c. this is exactly what I had done back when I was installing OCLP on High Sierra (Graphics Override: AMD GCN and AMD GOP Injection) before putting in the new GPU.

This should not be a problem - you can run Terminal from installation environment. Or I could try doing a bootable Linux drive. Heck, at this point I can even remove the SSD (I have the iMac gutted from the 2nd GPU installation anyway) and dock-connect it somewhere else.

I am confused however - do you mean the one on OCLP-created USB Drive? (It does boot and completes the installation process successfully, though. And it was created specifically on this iMac with ) Or is it the one which has to be on my SSD? (Does OCLP "inject" itself into the OS being installed? Can you please give me the path to where it puts its files? Otherwise, there shouldn't be one there b.c. I wiped the drive and didn't do post-install patching b.c. I can't get to the post-install phase - yellow screen. Should I try to run OCLP patching from the OS Installation environment - I believe I've seen guides somewhere how this can be done?)

Thanks!

UPD: Also, how could I have missed your guide on moving the ODD Sensor to address the temps! Doing that RN!

Sounds like you forgot to boot one more time from OCLP USB and perform "post-install root patches" or whatever it is after the "normal" installation finishes. I cant clearly remember the exact naming, but had been in the same situation expecting "normal" OS boot.

Yes it is that, my problem is that I cannot reach the point when I am offered to install OCLP to SSD and do the patches - either I boot from USB, which just starts the Installation environment or I boot from the SSD and I hit the yellow screen. No option to install OCLP to SSD at any point - it stays on USB.

As far as I remember you have to boot from USB twice, first time to perform installation, second to run post-install patching from menu, ignoring main installer window

If only I knew how to do that! I install the OS, and have two options - either boot from SSD and hit a yellow screen, or boot from USB and be sitting there looking at the Installation environment endlessly (again, this IS OCLP created installer, with all the parameters for the GPU). No OCLP auto-starting there. I've read there should be a way to put the OCLP package on USB, boot into Installer, run Terminal from Installation environment, and then run the OCLP. I am yet to try that though.

Patching does not help. Read this page and follow the instructions to boot into safe mode and enter the commands as shown in the very last code box (no yellow color in safe mode). You need a proper OpenCore config to avoid the yellow screen. Press s on the OCLP boot picker to enter safe mode. Press ESC to force the OCLP picker on screen.

Thank you so! Very! Much! Will try!

Ok, so that didn't work. I went to EFI partitions on both the SSD and the Install USB and changed the config.plist. USB still boots fine, SSD gets a yellow screen. Neither did Safe Mode boot from SSD work. And yes, the changes saved after reboot (multiple), I did check. Screenshots just in case it matters.

Here's where I added the argument in both:

Whatever you did, even your USB settings are borked. Spoofing to the iMac11,2 model will not be used by any valid OCLP generated OpenCore configuration using a new upgraded AMD GPU on these MXM iMac models.

OK, guys, seems like we can consider the case closed, at least for GPU. I took the brute force way - after rebuilding the USB in target mode on another MAC, clean-reinstalling and getting the same yellow screen again, I exploded a bit, took out the m5100, put in the old one, booted into the freshly installed Monterey, it miraculously launched, I did the fresh Mac Os install stuff (Language/Timezone/User creation, etc.), reached the desktop stage, installed Macs Fan Control immediately via USB, did the OCLP Build and install to SSD just in case (though in Target Mode - for some unknown reason, it would spit out an error while building in Host Mode), took out the old GPU, put in the m5100 in and... ta-daaa!

Now, post root patching, I have Wi-Fi problem (sees networks which it wouldn't before the patch, but does not connect to them automatically - there's no password prompt, I need to add the network of my choosing manually) and nothin else for now.

So, thank you all again!
