macOS 14 Sonoma on Unsupported Macs Thread

Leaving this post for historical purposes. Newer builds of OCLP-Sonoma have restored VMM kernel patches, so this is no longer an issue.

When AMFI and Library Validation are enabled in the OCLP-Sonoma GUI, OCLP generates an Open Core EFI without the following kernel patches and with property revpatch=sbvmm (for RestrictEvents.kext 1.1.2).

  • Reroute kern.hv_vmm_present patch (1)
  • Reroute kern.hv_vmm_present patch (2) Legacy
  • Reroute kern.hv_vmm_present patch (2) Ventura

On my MBP6,2, I have found that this EFI (without kernel patches) does not permit a clean installation of Ventura 13.5 (yeah, I know, this is a Sonoma thread). I need to revert to an EFI with VMM kernel patches in order to perform a clean install of Ventura 13.5.

I'm just posting this in case it helps diagnose any issues that may be seen with Sonoma. When I attempt to perform a clean install of Ventura 13.5 without the kernel patches, the installer fails with "unsupported platform" on my MBP6,2. If I add the kernel patches to my OC EFI, I am able to perform a clean install of Ventura 13.5 without issues.

EDIT: After installing macOS, I can remove VMM kernel patches and restore revpatch=sbvmm.

did some more Tests.
IMAC 14,3 Ventura
Update to OCLP 0.6.8
Install to disk WORKS
install post install patches WORKS
Restart into Ventura and Sonoma WORKS.

IMAC 12,2 AMD 6100 Ventura
Download OCLP 0.6.8
Install to disk WORKS
Install post install patches WORKS
Restart into Ventura and Sonoma WORKS

RESUMEE
Using OCLP 0.6.8 under Sonoma Beta 4 makes some problems as told in my posts above,
using version from 24.07.2023 using Beta 3 at this time did not have these problems !!!

I did so much testing now an running under first OCLP 0.6.9 because bluetooth under Sonoma has gone in further testing with official 0.6.8 if i am right.
So my Problems see to be triggered by Sonoma beta 4

I have tried both making an installer and also upgrading. Doesn't seam to recognize it. How did you install it?

NO
Problems did not be in version from 24 July Version-6003d6c-from 24.07.2023. Tried this version now under Beta 4 and all works well.
So now i am totally confused, because Sonoma Beta 4 is not the reason.
Tried out official Version of OCLP 0.6.8 another time out of Sonoma and Ventura now starts up to desktop, so all is OK now !

Post install patches are still not possible under Sonoma B4 , so it seems that this function is disabled there by the author for a known reason.
I think disabled because of post install patches under Sonoma still not supported in that version !
So we have to use ALPHA Version 0.6.9 under development in Sonoma

When I build OCLP-Sonoma, I must use 'python3 -m PyInstaller Build-Binary.command'

Not really a problem, but is there a way to eliminate my need to add '-m PyInstaller' ?

I reinstalled python3 and this is resolved. Not sure what I did wrong in the initial install.

I was able to do this with all my OCLP's build from Source.
Also able to do post patches from Developer nightly of today.
ONLY NOT able to do this with new official version 0.6.8 as told above !

at the time i posted this message, it was not clear to me that post patching is now disabled for Sonoma in 0.6.8.
But as i installed this version the first time out of Sonoma, i was not able to start under Ventura and for this i posted this message.

All my OCLP installers that i have created from source where able to do post patches from beta 1 up to beta 3.
If not, it was not the faulty creation but the release itself, which does not allow post patches as official 0.6.8 under Sonoma "unsupported Host OS"
Or post patching in the version stuck for whatever reason, was in a lot of versions from some sources.
The reason for this may have been the existing hardware, as has often been posted here, because not yet supported by the patcher.
 
EDIT: Leaving my post below for historical purposes. I didn't know if I'd be able to toggle AMFI without bricking my Sonoma install, but I took a chance. I was able to disable AMFI simply by adding amfi=0x80 to boot-args. OCLP 0.6.9 legacy-wifi post install patches loaded in Sonoma Beta 3, but as others have reported, my BCM 94352HMB does not see any available networks.

EDIT2: I upgraded to Sonoma Beta 4 and reapplied OCLP 0.6.9 legacy-wifi post-install patches. My Wi-Fi still does not see any available networks.

It appears to me that legacy wi-fi patches require AMFI to be disabled. I was able to build OCLP 0.6.9 to apply Sonoma post-install legacy-wifi patches and am seeing the following in my verbose boot log:

I am currently booting with AMFI and Library Validation enabled, so I can't test further.

@chris1111 Is this what you are seeing?


Devs, if I am correct in understanding that AMFI must be disabled for legacy-wifi patches, do you know enough at this time to determine whether an AMFI-enabled solution will exist in the future for legacy wi-fi?

Anyone have success when using OC 0.9.4
I have no success on all my systems.
Only black screen after install.
Have seen postings of success when using it, maybe on other places.

Can someone from here tell me having success and when on which Mac, or tell me what is the problem why the system not starts any more; maybe wrong config of mine?

Why? The current Acidanthera release is OC 0.9.3 (which I am using). There shouldn't be anything in the unreleased OC 0.9.4 that does anything for you except to add new untested code to your build.

What specifically in the OC 0.9.4 change log are you wanting to test on your Mac?
 
Still trying to install a working patch for my MBP 14.3 (2017 2,9 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, Intel HD Graphics 630 1536). Nightly built 0.6.9 allows me to install Wifi-patch but only when running EFI 0.6.7 or 0.6.8. Any other config when using an ethernet dongle hangs the machine after reboot (with a panic after restart). Furthermore some programs (Indesign, Parallels 18) seem to hang the machine when started. When accessing the MBP by by Remote Desktop, the MBP is responsive but shows graphical artifacts (enlarged menubar..) and even restartable while the MBP itself is unresponsive. Could be a graphics crd thing. Anyone having this issue with the same machine? Thanks for helping.
 
iMac 21.5 2011 12.1 with Nvidia Quadro k1000m GPU...

with the latest release 0.6.9n developer now the GPU drivers are also installed (nvdia kepler) after a further estimate download of a package "KDX Build 23A5286i" of 670 MB which offers OCLP...
everything seems to work properly except bluetooth which is active but does not detect devices (magic mouse)...
safari seems ok, youtube audio or similar is OK compared to safari on Ventura where youtube audio video is "jammed", "cracking"...

from the first checks it seems almost fully usable Sonoma b1 with this mac (I can't fully exploit the speed of all the macos because I installed on USB SSD obviously connected to USB 2)... it's amazing!!!! Thank you

On my iMac late 2012 21.5"
I installed Beta4 (Fullinstaller)on the existing 3 version.
Then patched with the latest 0.69 OCLP from last night.

Currently everything is running BT, Wifi etc..

Devs - Not sure this helps you... I was comparing the IOReg for ARPT in Ventura 13.5 (Wi-Fi working) and Sonoma Beta 4 (Wi-Fi not working) on my MBP6,2 (legacy-wifi BCM 94352). I noticed that in Sonoma, AirPort_Brcm43xxLLSkywalkInterface is not loaded. Also, IO80211AsyncEventUserClient does not appear attached to AirPort_BrcmNIC_P2PInterface.

Out of curiosity, did someone from around here already installed Sonoma Beta 4 on a MBP 9,2 using 0.6.8 successfully?
