I am not arguing VBox is better than the commercial software. Just wanted to mention that it opens, runs and works pretty well with an OCLP Mac and is free. Unless in a OCLP context VM:s are surely off- topic here.

Hey all, how does Sonoma determine whether or not Find my mac is on or off for a particular machine? For example, my MBP 11,1 with OCLP 1.3.0 and Sonoma 14.3.1 shows as On in the devices list under icloud. The iMac 17, 1 shows as off even though find my mac is on and active. The only difference between the two is the iMac is connected by Ethernet and while Wifi is on, it's not connected to an SSID, it's just on for location services The MBP is connected to Wifi. Any thoughts ?

Go to the OCLP page. You must be logged in. Go to 'Actions', than click on 'Build wxPython'. Click the first on the list. At the buttom of the page it's a link to it, 'OpenCore-Patcher.app (GUI)'

You need a usb hub, and wired keyboard and mouse, plugged into the hub, and hub plugged into your iMac. ....then you can login and (re)apply post install patches.

OCLP Tip: HOW 2 Update/Upgrade macOS with OCLP
Since some of you are still having problems with Sonoma, here are my tips:
- ❗️ (If u have only an iGPU and not a dGPU than) Better *NEVER use Memoji* as User Pic / iCloud User Pic with OCLP
👉🏻 ATTENTION❗️ iOS 17.1+ your Contact Photo in adress book sync to iCloud and so to your Login pic. 😱
*** So DON'T use Memoji there either❗️*** - ❗️ *First install OCLP* (if upgrading i.e. macOS 13 ➡️ 14 ALWAYS❗️"Create macOS Installer")
OR IF you're on macOS "Sonoma" then first❗️check if there's a NEW version of OCLP and install this *INCLUDING* new "Build and Install Opencore" to you start disk + check/install "Post-Install Root Patch" - Now you could use the system updater to get the latest macOS 14.x version – but better is to wait till OCLP developers push out a new OCLP patcher version that includes the corresponding macOS update.😉
- ❗️ *Install the root patches* – in "secure boot mode" always the best
⚠️ 👉🏻Currently, it *seems to be safest to always perform the updates* - not just the upgrade to macOS Sonoma 14.x.x - *using the OCLP USB installer.* ⚠️

I also use iCloud Drive for my documents, which are structured in folders.
But how do YOU do this with apps and their settings - especially if they are not from the App Store? 🤔
I therefore also use CCC, which I use as a second backup to TimeMachine. CCC is also more reliable than TM

I keep a copy of the original installer of one of the the third party apps I use on the NAS. All the other TPAs, which are very few, I re-download from where I got them originally, if I still need them. I try to stick with Apple apps unless there's a hole in their product line I really need to fill.
You can tell the Mac to include apps for syncing BTW. In System Settings, go AppleID > iCloud - in the "Apps using iCloud" section click on the "Show more apps" button. I have no idea if it supports TPAs, as I say, I don't use them much.
If my OCLP Mac Pro coundn´t sleep, my bill would be much higher. Switch on and off is when a computer suffers more.

Reply to myself here. The nightly 1.4.0n fixed this little problem. Running 14.4RC no problem now for WiFi.

In terms of a Mac Pro, because they use more power sleep would be beneficial yes. For something like an iMac, the display is the highest power consumption on those. For me, even with my iMac running 24/7 and simply sleeping the display when idle keeps my power bill around $50 - $55 a month, and about $70 - $80x when the AC runs in the summer more. So in terms of power consumption my recommendation not to sleep an iMac was based on that. I've never owned a Mac Pro, so don't have any experience with them. My closest experience with a Mac tower system would have to be the Yosemite Blue and White G3 I had years ago.
I'm going to be looking for other alternatives to OCLP though. Along with the fact that currently patching the OS still gives me little problems here and there for certain tasks I want access to, I just don't like some of the changes Apple has made to the newer versions, and I'd probably have to deal with those on a new supported Mac as well.
At this point, I feel like my two main choices are clear after trying the Open Core solution:
1. get a new Mac
2. switch platforms
I'm still trying to decide which to do. Although I did put Big Sur back on my 11,1 and it seems like it's OK. (last official supported version for that Mac.)
How is DRM for you? I have a cMP5,1 with OCLP 1.3 and Sonoma 14.3.1 and I cannont play purchased movies in the Apple TV app and I cannot play free episodes in TV+. I am using a Vega 56.
Everything but two of my movies works with the same setup in Monterey (though with a manually developed config.plist).

Something has changed since the update with 14.4 (23E214). I have to manually connect to my WiFi network after every (re)start of the computer.
I also use an ancient app called WiFiSpy, which shows me the quality of the wireless connection in the menu bar. This app now only shows me the value 0, even though there is a connection. This is of course not a complaint, just information, perhaps someone else is also affected in a similar or the same way.

I think DRM content is broken for everyone.
And it's probably not something OCLP developers can fix.

I thought DRM overall was working with the exception of a couple things with Safari. Although, I really don't watch protected content on the computer so I can't really speak to that. I typically use the iPhone, or TV so I have HDR support. I don't remember if any intel based Macs ever got it, or if that's an apple silicon only thing now.
Forgot the Network and re-join it should fix issue.

HDR is more a screen capability, it’s not linked to Apple silicon.
You always come back to your needs, usage and feelings, but let’s stay with facts:
We can’t play DRM content in Safari.
You can play some DRM content in other browsers, but most of the time, it’s in low res.

That's what I was talking about. I thought for the most part the established facts were the Apple TV app had been resolved when playing protected content Disney and other sites didn't work in Safari, but third party browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, etc were fine. As far as HDR and DRM, no they aren't connected but I was stating that most of the modern protected content I'd want to watch is also in HDR. An exception to non protected HDR content would be YouTube. As far as my needs, it's reasonable to take the facts and apply them to the situation to see if the individual needs are met.

DRM content issue is a limitation with OCLP, and saying it’s not a problem for you because you don’t use it is completely pointless…
The problem is still there and the forum is also here to inform about the limitations of using a patched system.
Too many people claim that « all is working perfectly »
Unfortunately it’s not the case.
DRM is one of the caveats, there are other.
It’s more useful to say what’s working/ not working and let people decide if it’s important for them and not than always coming back to your personal life
