Mac Pro 5,1 works. When trying to apply post install root patches, it says it cannot find the GeForce drivers. I have an old GT730 running in this Mac. All I use it for is a plex server. If I could get past that error, I’m pretty sure I could at least get Wi-Fi working.

I wish we could get a debug mode. I know what kexts to add, but I’m afraid I’ll brick the install.
Also, you won’t regret getting an apple silicon Mac. I have an M2 Air, and it’s amazing.
I don't mind waiting, maybe if the Sonoma patch is super stable, I'll just skip Ventura and go straight from Monterrey.
I've got my eye on the M2 MBP! I've never had a laptop but it makes more sense now instead of a mini or studio. just hoping they can up the display from a mini-LED to OLED soon!
Just do what I do. I dock it to a display I have with 120HZ when I want to edit video.
I had the same result with my 2012 5,1 w/ GTX680 using oclp 0.6.8n latest as of my post
I did a clean install on a USB SSD on my iMac 18,3 (2017 5K). I lied to OCLP and told it I was going to use it for an iMac 17,1 to get through the install. It boots fine without OpenCore with the -no_compat_check boot argument, but WiFi doesn't work. It appears everything else works though.

Makes sense. I’m doing this to make sure it can be done. I’m not in a rush for the patches, I’m perfectly fine using Ventura. I just wanted to play around like the old days (I haven’t made an unsupported Mac in a while). I’m surprised I even made it this far.
Friendly reminder to everyone here that Sonoma is still on developer beta 1, and OCLP provides ZERO support for it. The only legacy Mac users that should be on Sonoma are currently the developers of OCLP itself - everyone else will survive being on Ventura or older. You do not need to be running macOS Sonoma!
Well in the meantime, if y’all need testers for anything, I’m a bored teacher on summer vacation. Im happy to lend my old pro as a Guinea pig. Once again, I installed it to see if it could be done.
Any 2017 iMac success yet? Thinking it should essentially be the easiest to get working
Boots on the 14,2 MBP from 2017. Only WiFi and Touch ID fail and that about it. I'm sure if you have space, make a separate partition and it's easy.
That's an awesome machine. Just have patience, I'm 100% confident Sonoma will eventually be working without issue on it but it'll take some waiting while the awesome wizards do their magic.
MP 5,1 installed Sonoma Beta successfully. As others have shared, a few small details for beta1:
-Stock Ethernet works fine
-PCI WiFi that worked under Ventura is recognized but not working — won’t turn on
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 works, but no adjustable resolutions besides default 1024x768 (Metal, not sluggish). It’s a MacVidCard Flash FYI
-Titan Ridge Thunderbolt recognized without issue
-also had error on Root Patch (I just exited…I know this is super early)

Any thoughts of trying something like the RX6600XT, it can be flashed to work properly and recognised by 5,1. It's a fairly fast card as well - uses same power connection as RX580. Makes less heat as well.
just install like normal from a USB as if its supported? or did you need to use OCLP or something?
I had the same idea yesterday. Icon is in menubar but usb not found message. Did i miss something in security settings?

Yes, currently the patcher is not yet capable handling the Sonoma requirements, please be patient. All of us are affected atm. Be happy for the time being that a) you can boot at all (unpatched) and b) the team is up and working for solutions.
I don't understand how they drop support when I've not seen anything that's groundbreaking in the way of updates in the OS. its always minor updates and I just don't get how that will tax any recent Macs.. especially ones with SSD.
