macOS 14 Sonoma on Unsupported Macs Thread

Still having all kinds of weird display/graphics problems. After I leave my iMac alone for awhile and come back, seems like most of the graphics has lost its marbles. I did find a work around: log out and log back in. Not sure what is causing it, but I've seen a lot Safari issues and the SBOD makes itself known quite often. And as I said in a previous post, youtube doesn't work at all in Safari 17.1 (19616.2.8.11.2). This is Sonoma 14.1b2. Since it's a beta, I guess it's to be expected.

Well, just as I wrote that, youtube is mysteriously now working. Very odd, maybe it was the reboot that fixed it.

I have the same iMac, but with an i5. Same OLCP and Somona. Can't comment on sleep as I don't sleep my Macs. I simply have the display turn off when idle as I run servers for local streaming on the mac and sleep used to badly interfere with that. With that said, no problems with display sleep and idle.

It's Roon that local streaming media service, I guess.

It can wake up in a short time after sleeping my Mac. After running the following code, I need to press the power button to wake up my Mac after sleeping for a long time. But Bluetooth didn't work. Neither my Magictrackpad nor MagicKeyboard worked, as did my Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

iMac with Sandy Bridge CPU + Kepler and OCLP 1.0.1 Sonoma: can not wake up display every morning. Boot performs from internal SSD w/o any external drives

My iMac isn't a Sandy Bridge CPU and Kepler graphics card. It's a SkyLake CPU and AMD GCN R9 graphics card.

Does anybody experience either of these two issues with Sonoma and OCLP 1.0.1:

1. Sometimes after the laptop goes to sleep, waking the laptop will be as if it had shut down and logging in will give a computer didn't shut down properly error.
2. After logging in, a brief "Installer Progress" app will be open as indicated by it showing on the menu bar for 1-2 seconds before disappearing and continuing with the login/startup process.

I have a 2016 MBP non-touchbar (MBP 13,1).

Same as your first issue.

The laptops 15 and 17-inch MBP4,1s, can use up to 6Gb memory. If you were to replace one of its 2Gb DIMM cards with a 4Gb one, it would transform the performance of the laptop dramatically, so much so you will enjoy the laptop's performance under Sonoma. This worked for me on Catalina, for the 17-inch version.

I have one of these (2008 17" MBP) and was aware of the potential for RAM upgrade, but I just checked and that 4GB chip is close to $60... I have KDE Neon Linux on that particular computer, With an old 120 GB internal SSD and its 4GB total RAM it's perfectly fine for web use (I can even bang out Stable Diffusion renders online!).

I also have a 2010 15" MBP running Monterey and 2013 11" MBA running Ventura 13.6. I no longer actually need any of these but I keep up with OCLP matters ;-). Maybe as Sonoma matures I'll put in on the 2013.

I'm running Sonoma 14.1b2 on a 2020 M1 MBP so I live dangerously regardless...

I have a MacBook Air 2012 4GB RAM (api Metal - Intel HD Graphics 4000 / Intel Core i5 3th), it runs Sonoma perfectly well, I also have a MBP 2010 13" 16GB RAM - C2D Peryn / NVIDIA GeForce 320m non-metal and in its limitations, the Sonoma runs very well)

You should be able to find 4GB used for a few dollars...

Unfortunately, it looks like the proposed solution is not long-term stable, switching back to pmset -a hibernatemode 0

I done the update to Sonoma in the morning on may Macbook Early 2013 and luckily there were no Issues excep the HP Scanner App , i must download HP Smart wit Digital Pictures is not so comfortable ..

Windows EFI Partition/boot option disappears in OCLP

To anyone that can help, i have mac mini late 2012 two SSDs one for BOOTCAMP (UEFI install) and One for Ventura, well after formatting and done a clean installation of Sonoma with OCLP latest the OCLP doesn’t give me the option to boot in Bootcamp even though Sonoma sees the Bootcamp drive. Is the any way to correct this?

Any help will be appreciated

Sounds like you have the right idea, just go through and see what is interfering in your setup, and you'll know what to disable, or uninstall.

After all, the bug has been present again, not sure which is the mechanism that interfering. When reboot sometimes works but others not

The easiest solution I could give you, if you aren't able to track down what's causing it, is to just use a still image for the wallpaper vs one of the videos. Like I said, the problem for me was easier to resolve as it was that one particular piece of software causing problems. For you, it might be more complex. I think we're also using different models of Mac too, so that also may play a part in this.

Just installed Sonoma 14.0 on my iMac 27" from 2010. Windows 11 in Parallels 14.3.2. Everything seems to be working ok, however I can only boot using USB with OCLP 1.0.0. Tried updating to OCLP 1.0.1, but the iMac get stuck booting. Tried booting from internal SSD also using OCLP 1.0.1 - not working

I have a similar problem as well. I generated a new EFI with OCLP 1.0.1 and let it install the EFI. But for me the system gets stuck during Sonoma install already. So I installed Monterey first and tried to upgrade to Sonoma which didn't work either ("Failed to prepare upgrade files" or something like that).

I also noticed that legacy Wifi doesn't work in Monterey. It shows no hotspots to connect to. I think this might be a config issue, because the necessary kext for using legacy Atheros Wifi in the iMac11,3 are injected (corecaptureElCap.kext, IO80211ElCap.kext and its Plugin AirPortAtheros40.kext). But I haven't found the solution yet. I'll stay with Big Sur for now which is working fine.

I still have one of the older Apple USB keyboards with the USB 2 hub with a port on each side of the keyboard. Seems to work OK, I have a Logitech TriAthlon mouse and i don't use it with BT, I use the USB receiver plugged into one of the keyboard USB ports. It also works as it should. What I do as far as power management. I go into settings set the display to turn off anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes, and then I check the box prevent computer sleep on display sleep. That way, the computer stays awake, but the monitor is off. the iMac is a desktop, you shouldn't be sleeping it. That feature is made for laptops. The main power draw on the iMac is the display. If it's off, the computer just sitting idle isn't going to take a lot of power, or get hot.

I pressed the update button in control center yesterday more or less by accident (wanted to upgrade to latest Ventura actually); I don't regret it as I wanted anyhow to upgrade in the upcoming days. Now I'm facing an issue where I cannot open intelliJ Idea anymore, which crashes after a few seconds. I suspect it has to do with Metal rendering, I try to upload the crash report log. Same version was working fine under Ventura and Monterey (residing on a different partition).

It worked! Finally on the desktop after manual choosing the correct volume on every reboot.

I've occasionally experienced the same issue. I have multiple macOS volumes (e.g., Big Sur, Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma) and find that Open Core can get confused during macOS install.

Sometimes it's necessary to 'babysit' the install/upgrade instead of leaving unattended.

This has happened with Open Core for as long as I can remember (which, given my age is probably not impressive to some). As far as I have been able to tell, it's not because of Volume names that you choose. Installing Sonoma to a Volume named Ventura might be confusing to you, but shouldn't be a problem for macOS/Open Core.

I also use Bootcamp, I simply ignore EFI Boot when I use Windows 11 on the Air 2012, OCLP is only used to boot macOS, when I turn it on I hold the Option key and select the Windows partition, simple as that.

Just follow those instructions and you should have what you want. Works here.
Pay attention to not booting into windows before using the OCLP EFI during the install. At all.

Also does anybody know how to turn off featureunlock? Whenever I choose disable it turns back on after every reboot. I alos tried building opencore again after choosing disabled but that didn't seem to help either.

I am runnung 1.0.1 with the latest post install patches but it didn't solve it for me. I actually have this issue since Ventura came out but this one is a fresh install.
