Runs great!

Hi Everyone,

I just installed Sequoia 15.4.1 using OCLP 2.3.2 (haven't used the upgrades yet; read a few horror stories) and used a Mac metal Geforce 760 during the install. But when I reinstall the RX 580, it doesn't boot. The boot manager shows generic gray icons, and all they do when clicked is show the Apple icon. Please forgive me, I've been a little confused about this upgrade, but I understand that with the new OCLP, something like RefindPlus is no longer needed to get a boot manager. Basically I'm having trouble using the RX 580 and am stumped.

You have to revert Root Patches before switching the GPU, since every GPU is using their own patchset.

Hi everyone, could you please outline the correct way to update to OC!P 2.4 and Sequoia 15.5? I am currently on OCLP 2.3.2 and Sequoia 15.4.1. Should I use the MacOS update or make a new install USB and install as if for the first time or something else.

First update OCLP by opening the app. It will promt you for the latest version. Apply and post patch. Then install the latest KDK or Metallib for MacOS 15.5, depending on your Mac model. Then do the MacOS update either via OTA or by downloading the installer. After installation OCLP will prompt you to post patch which also applies the previously installed KDK/Metallib.

Hi guys, thanks to anyone who can help me. I recently used Open Core to install Sequoia on my 2015 MacBook which didn't support it. Everything works perfectly fine except that for many things it becomes very slow, it seems to do this when it needs graphics acceleration which is regularly installed and working, so much so that if I disable it it even seems to work better, for example chrome is very slow even with a few tabs open, to move from one section to another of the settings also. CPU and Ram don't seem to be particularly loaded unless I open a lot of things but the speed seems independent of how many apps I have open or resources are loaded.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it working decently again?

I have an Intel HD Graphics 5300 1536 MB.

Thanks

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have a MacBook Air 2017, MacbookPro 2015 and an iMac 2015 all with Sequoia installed, do any of these need the need the latest KDK or Metallib files? I have not installed them up to now so unsure!

I've updated my Sequoia install on my iMac 17,1 without issue. The method I chose to update was:

Boot into Sequoia, update open core, install the latest boot loader, and root patches, then I updated my Sequoia USB installer to 15.5 in the app using create macos installer, and then ran the installer. After making sure it was successful, booted back into Monterey until a newer version of macOS is required.

@madyj987 Welcome. @TigerA responded to you here.

When you post requests for help, specify the following:
  • Version of Open Core Legacy Patcher (OCLP)
  • How did you create your macOS installer (e.g., macOS installer downloaded directly from Apple or macOS installer created with OCLP)
  • When you "Built and Installed Open Core" for your macOS installer, did you build it on the target Mac (your 2015 MacBook) or on another Mac?
  • Did you perform a macOS upgrade (from a previous version of macOS) or did you install macOS from scratch?
  • If you did not create your macOS installer with OCLP, did you apply post-install patches to macOS with OCLP?

You have to revert Root Patches before switching the GPU, since every GPU is using their own patchset.
Revert _before_ switching? I thought it would be after, that way I could boot to Mojave under the 580, re-run OCLP and then restart under Sequoia.

Um...The Root Patch menu in OCLP is grayed out. Looking for a fix for this.

Never mind - I was in the wrong OS.

To check for the KDK models please watch this
Metal Libraries (.metallib) in macOS restore support for legacy hardware (namely Metal 3802-based GPUs on macOS Sequoia). If still not sure install both packages and watch which one OCLP uses for patching.

Hi everyone.

I was able to successfully update my macbook pro retina 15' late 2013 kepler (11,3) macOS from 15.4.1 to 15.5 yesterday.

First, I updated from OCLP 2.3.2 to 2.4.
I also created a USB macOS (15.5) Installer with OCLP. As a test, I started up the external SSD with 15.4.1, attached this USB Installer to the left USB port, and successfully updated to 15.5.
I also successfully updated the internal SSD to 15.5.

So far, there have been no major issues and it seems to be working smoothly.
Thanks to the OCLP developers and community.

One problem I found, which may have been there before the update to 15.5, is that I cannot open Memo documents on iCloud.com.

Safari is version 18.5 with developer mode turned on and all WebGL options turned on.
Other features of iCloud.com are working fine, but Memo is the only one that I can't open because of a "WebGL problem."

Is this kind of phenomenon occurring in your place?
This may be off topic here, but. If anyone knows a solution, it would be helpful if you could let me know.

Get rid of the HD first; it would be an exercise in self-inflicted pain. Substitute an SSD.

Man, you weren't kidding! Rather than taking the screen off the iMac, I got an external USB 3 and booted from it after cloning from the internal. I tested it beforehand and it was writing at 30MB/sec; look how long it took to clone 667 GB... 😀

It's now pretty fast at a bit over 400 MB/sec, and is actually usable now. Still running Catalina, but will try Ventura and possibly beyond. I'll probably install an internal SSD at some point. How much faster can I expect?

On my 13" MBP, I downgraded from Sequoia to Sonoma, but it was still annoyingly slow, so now it's on Ventura and it's better to the point that I can live with it.
