What are you seeing that’s broken in Ice? I’ve been using that instead of Bartender and it’s been working great.

Maybe I was doing something wrong, but it somehow kept "reindexing" the icons, and they would keep swooshing in and out of the menu bar at random, making the mouse cursor jump around. I wasn't able to stop that behavior, but I also didn't troubleshoot for too long.

Doesn't it do that for you?

hidden bar (admittedly basic) has worked thru every beta, and continues to work well. and it's free 👍

This one looks nice. Although I need at least the following features:
- always shown items
- always hidden items
- items that appear/disappear if you hover over the menu bar
- full menu bar shown if screen is above a certain resolution (when used with an external screen)

Only Bartender, Ice and Barbee seem to have that so far.

For example, ICE is liable to lose apps - they disappear from both visible and hidden bars. Fix is to quit and restart ICE.

Whilst the "Beta 1" for Tahoe is now some months old, Jordan has been making regular updates to the code on GitHub. https://github.com/jordanbaird/Ice/tree/macos-26-reworks. I am hoping that will become a new release this coming week.

One thing I noticed is that macOS 26 (RC) moves at least one of my Menu Bar icons to the leftmost position during every restart. That's happening without making Bartender, Ice, or Barbee active during startup. The icon is for Eizo ColorNavigator 7, a color calibrating software for Eizo monitors. The menu bar programs may not be entirely responsible for the problems we are experiencing.

That’s what was happening to me with Bartender. I’ve has been working normally for me.

Bartender 6 final is out. Four weeks trial period. Click on Support to access the download link in "Bartender on Tahoe" at the top of the page..

Not sure if anyone reported this, but Photoshop 2025 (version 26.10) seriously heats up my MacBook Pro M2 Pro running RC. Like this never happened before.

YIKES... I tried Bartender 6 and it is in no way ready for Prime Time. Half the time, my cursor is just .. gone? Seems to have to constantly index and causes everything to freeze up. I hope it gets better support with Tahoe, but I'm going to stick with Ice.

Thanks for testing it, and I am going to stay away from this until it is fixed and operational.

I tried Bartender 6
So have I. For the basics (bar and hidden bar), it seems more reliable than the 3 month old beta of ICE. B6 has incomplete new features which I don't really understand and am ignoring for now. I am waiting for the next release of ICE before making a decision.

At least Ice works for me in SOME way.. Bartender literally caused my machine to grind to a halt. Had to completely remove it. Not seeing any "make or break" it type of issues with Ice.

There is a new release of Bartender 6 out this morning. Working fine for me on Sequoia. I don't have Tahoe beta installed to test though.
Thanks for the info. I'll try it on macOS 26 RC later today. That said, and as I stated earlier (post 329), it seems that part of the problems all those Menu Bar management applications are encountering may be due to macOS 26 itself and the new way the OS is handling the icons. I have been testing Barbee for a few days, and like Ice and Bartender, a few problems remain. Three applications showing similar issues may not be a coincidence, although Ice beta has not been updated for a few months, so it is likely out of date with the modifications made to the different Tahoe beta released in the meantime.

I can try installing again later.. I might use TrashMe or something to completely get rid of it, but it was causing my Mac to be unusable. I'm fine with Ice, but would love to go back to using Bartender again and would pay for the update.. Having the Triggers were great, and although Ice does most of the same thing, Bartender was a lot better.

When the Tahoe beta first came out the Ice dev. posted something on Reddit that due to changes in how Tahoe handles menu items, he was doubtful he would be able to adapt Ice to work under Tahoe. Have not seen anything more recent from the dev, so who knows.

Tahoe 26.0 broke the command line utility uhubctl. Is there a way to non-destructively revert back to Sonoma?

Would like that too. Tahoe broke my crossover game that used to work perfectly. Now game launches and quit even with latest Crossover update. Will really love a non-destructive revert

Just to follow up, I'm using Bartender 6 on Tahoe with no problems. Updated the Wiki.
What kind of machine are you using? I completely removed it and reinstalled the current version and am still seeing a ton of issues like the screen freezing up and random indexing of icons (also causing things to just creep to a halt). I'm on an M1 MBP.
