Could

They do indeed!

Could be an Akamai too issue I guess, that is where we're downloading from I think...

Some of the log, I won't upload a screenshot too and upset people ;)

Code:
Error Domain=SUOSUErrorDomain Code=200 "Installation failed" UserInfo={NSLocalizedRecoverySuggestion=An error occurred while installing the selected updates., NSLocalizedDescription=Installation failed, NSUnderlyingError=0x600003079530 {Error Domain=PKDownloadError Code=8

TCP_DENIED from a62-252-168-223.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com (AkamaiGHost/10.2.0.2-31441410) (-)
So the culprit here is Akamai

I'm getting a new issue, actually. After getting the error everyone keeps posting a screenshot of, suddenly my updates are now managed externally? News to me!

Apple this morning released macOS Big Sur to the public, and since the software went live, it has had extremely long download times that have prevented many from being able to install it.

Even those who have made progress through the download have run into problems where the software downloading process is suddenly interrupted and must be restarted. Others have reported being able to download the update and then having the installation fail. Apple's site appears to be having some major issues due to the number of people attempting to download the update at once.

In addition to these Big Sur download problems, Apple's developer site is also down at this time, and as a result, some third-party apps are unable to be opened up at this time.

An error occurred while installing the selected updates

It's not clear what's causing the problem. It could be that the macOS Big Sur downloads are failing due to a developer site issue or the developer site could be failing under the strain of macOS Big Sur demand, but it is clear that those hoping to get the new software should hold off until things are more stable.

Apple's System Status page is listing an issue with macOS Software Updates and says that the problem is "currently being investigated."

Same Problem here, wonder what happened as it suddenly did this when downloading, and after that I keep getting this error, I even tried safe mode e.t.c. nothing helps.

Apple knew about this problem 2 days ago (11/10) when you couldn't download RC2 off the dev web site. Apple support told me to "piss off" in kinder terms. Totally preventable. Well done Apple!

Servers now reading as OK but same error "An error occurred while installed the selected update" shocks Apple, feels like a windows update ;-)

Ugh, not just the dev site. Store is down too. And not in a good way.

Also, one can't even reinstall macOS by using CMD+R and entering recovery.
This is pathetic Apple.

Anyone wanna buy a MacBook Air? Oh, wait...

My Big Sur installation failed repeatedly and then I noticed that apps would not launch. Even though the Big Sur installation failed during download, I figured it must have messed something up. I tried to reboot. Wouldn’t reboot. Tried safe mode. Wouldn’t boot. I tried recovery mode. Was successfully able to reinstall Catalina. Took more than an hour, during which time I learned about the Apple server issues and kicked myself.

Now back where I started. Big Sur installation fails with the error message as soon as I click the button.
