I restarted and redownloaded when it was stuck @ 12.18gb for a while. I downloaded fast and it started installing quickly. It went from 15 mins to restart within a seconds.

If you are using VPN, connect to French vpn servers. Update downloads much faster than downloading from Australian servers.

just finished the install. I notice my MacBook Pro running little hotter now. don't know why maybe just spotlight is cycling

Hey all, thought I would let you know that Big Sur downloaded, and I'm running on it now. Seems smooth, the zoom behavior is still the same where it doesn't remember my exact level of magnification but it's more of a frustration since it doesn't seem to stop anything from running. Feels very smooth overall. Have been opening and closing my apps and all but one seems to work and the one that doesn't just hasn't had the Big sur update released yet.

Anyone getting this message...? Earlier today I was able to start the download then it failed like everyone else's. But now, this...? I guess I should restore but this is odd.

Clicking 'Restore Defaults' didn't seem to do anything. Neither did a restart.

However, unchecking 'Automatically keep my Mac up to date' and then unchecking every box under 'Advanced', going back out of this screen and then back in, I was able to do a manual check for updates, at which point it started working normally. It's downloading now and we'll see how it goes from here. Hope this helps someone.

I'm 1 hour in. Download completed. The install has been going on about 20 minutes. I have "About 18 minutes left" but each minute is about 5 actual minutes with several screen refreshes so far. Midwest US. No VPN.

I gave up after a half hour and rebooted. Got to the Big Sur background and it asked me to log in. Now stuck at another full progress bar (only for a few minutes so far, but i Am not Hopeful)
Nervous about rebooting it while it is still in the "install phase". Don't want to risk corrupting the install. I think I may just wait it out.
