So what fixed things for me is I noticed I never installed 10.5.7 supplemental update 2. After I did this, the install went smoothly.

Yep, been trying all day. Got to 2.40 GB download multiple times before failing (although usually it would fail instantly.) Got to 4-6 GB a couple times. Currently at 8 GB, fingers-crossed-knock-on-wood.

This reminds me of the old days. 12.18 GB of 12.18 GB downloaded but the progress bar isn't full...
98% sure that it is checksumming the download but it's been sitting there a while...

I'am sitting in exact same place for about 15 min. My other MacBook pro is almost finished installing

I gave up on the Software Update route, and am installing the twitter link .pkg now... certs all seem to check out for it. (AFAIK SHA-256 of pkg contents is then signed by Apple, per instructions here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202369)

A total of around 45 minutes, not counting the download part. Restarted a few times as usual.

This seems to be due to an interrupted or corrupted download. This can usually be resolved by clearing your Mac App Store cache.

1. Quit the Mac App Store
2. Go to Terminal and type following: open $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.appstore/
3. Move the files inside the folder to the Desktop or any temporary location (if you are confident, you can move them to Trash straight away.)

this worked for me. downloading again now

Mine started downloading after clearing the cache and finished without any problem. It is installing now. 21 minutes remaining...

HIGH SIERRA and MOJAVE were cleaned up and WELL TUNED operating systems.
