Ha! That works but if I just launch Maps and search "Edinburgh" the binocular icon is greyed out when I get there...

I'm wondering if perhaps that'll resolve once Apple's servers sort themselves out.

For example, the Translate function in Safari wasn't showing some hours ago but it's up and working now, I can even translate this page into Spanish, although I'm not sure about it translating my screen name 🤣. It's still not available in Safari on my iPhone though.

Yes, same here not sure why FB is so laggy. No problems on my Win machines?

It looks like with the release of Big Sur and the new version of Safari, Apple has finally fixed the memory leak in Safari. i have not been able to use safari and in fact switched to firefox some months ago. The memory leak was pretty severe with memory usage at multiple gigabits minutes after starting to use the app.

I think it looks great, and I'm sure the speed and (most) functionality is there; but I'm afraid it happened again, where it isn't allowing me to unlock with my Apple Watch. I went through the steps I've used in the past, e.g., clear out auto lock from keychain access, etc, but no success. Anyone else finding this with Big Sur?

I'm not sure. I heard that Big Sur's version of Safari had improved memory management, but I'm still seeing this, but only browsing Facebook, so it's possible the problem lies with Facebook/Google.

Not necessarily, even-though I'm not a huge fan of touch screens myself.
On a small-sized laptop (like the Air), with 360 degrees hinges and a touch pen, why not?
Can Apple let that category exclusively into the hands of HP, Lenovo etc. without reacting sooner or later?
And the iPad, even the pro model, may not make the cut for a lot of people.

I haven't followed the news that much lately so I'm unsure : is it still impossible to plug the iPad to a printer though USB?

Don't know about your respective countries but here, in Japan, LOTS of offices have no wi-fi printer.
I’ve always played around with the idea of an iPad (pro level maybe) being able to plug into a TV and switching over into macOS mode. Or some scenario where it converts from iPadOS to macOS. (Maybe if you connect a keyboard and a mouse?) I feel like it’s getting closer to that every update. Probably won’t ever happen but it’s interesting to think about.

Yes, after a while. Sometimes going to my own profile page and reloading gets rid of that warning, other times I just log out and come back to FB later.
That warning with the "significant memory..." pop's out on facebook for years so...nothing new. I just "force quit" safari...then i get rid of it that often. My main pain is the scrolling lag, as in safari 13 was buttery smooth.

I don't understand why you need to force quit. Just closing the Facebook window, or logging out of it should be enough.

Do you have the problem on other web pages or only FB?

I've read on some forums that...if you force quit safari, that pop up won't show up that often, i tested it and it's kinda working. Anyways...yeah, if i scroll through Tumblr, after a while i get the same lag scroll. I think it's something with the contents on page, after loading a lot of stuff in it. But as i told you, chrome works very well, with no problems.

Gotta be honest, I'm *hating* Big Sur for productivity. All these "enhancements" were allegedly meant to make it easier to focus and not be disturbed, and I like all the privacy upgrades (if they ever all get released) but ... why why WHY would you make notifications MORE intrusive? Grouping them doesn't matter if you're forcing me to click an X or Context menu to make them GO AWAY. Now I can't even click "Show As Read" for email or texts without going into sub-menus. SD cards not being recognized properly. Stupid ring around the dock in dark mode. Giant unblockable FILE NAMES in the headers of Finder? Apple needs a Microsoft-controlled Senate. Scroll speed broken in dozens of apps. Apps not loading. Apps hung-up. Files not syncing. iCloud attempting to grab files it never had permission for. Was this even ready for release?!

Yes! Apple without a touch computer/laptop seems to be limping along ok.

A couple years ago I tried Microsoft Surface and Surface Studio in a local Microsoft Store. I was intrigued with the Surface Studio, but after using it for half an hour discovered I'd be frustrated using it 90% of the time with it getting in the way, and the display not being anywhere close to Apple's in terms of visual quality. I found the Surface fatiguing using the "feature" that makes it unique. So.... A nope for both.

Agree. Very odd changes that slow you down.
Some of the toolbars for instance. It used to be the icons went from one side of the screen to the other.
Take Finder for instance. They are scrunched up in the pane on the right so you have to click on an arrow to see some of them whilst the left pane is now empty!

I can't get my Time Capsule HD to show up in Disk Utility in order to reformat it in APFS. Is this not possible with the type of drives in the Time Capsule?
