macOS Golden Gate 27.0 Beta 6 - What’s New

As far as closing windows closing apps, macOS is fundamentally different, the windows aren't the application like they are in Windows
For creative applications like Photoshop or DAWs, where you have multiple windows open with different files or projects, I find the way macOS handles windows better in this regard
Also hasn't the close button always been in the top left since System 1? I’m guessing Windows had to put it in the right so it didn't look like a complete copy. Same with the taskbar being at the bottom, opposite of the Mac's menu bar
I am a former 24 year windows user. I guess it shows. 5 year mac user, and still not sure what each color does. Except for being too damn small to click on to find out!
After installing Beta 5 and Beta 6 on my 16" M4 Macbook Pro and testing it for past 2 weeks I'm very hopeful and happy for Golden Gate.
I installed it over Sequoia. I did update to macOS 26 and had Tahoe up until 26.2. Then, one weekend, I reverted back to Sequoia because I really didn't like the implementation of LG, bad UI choices, and the bad performance. I will be one of those voices claiming that Tahoe was for Apple what Vista was for Microsoft.
I'm happy that tons of responsible heads rolled and Apple is righting the trajectory.
2 weeks with Golden Gate as a marketer and graphic designer using Affinity Studio, Pixelmator Pro, JPEGMini Pro, iMovie, Photos (managing over 120k photos and over 10k videos), Calendar, Word, Excel, Preview, Safari, Brave and Chrome browsers, Time Machine, VLC video app, Music, VPN service, Finder, Steam (I have over 700 hours on Frostpunk game 😆) the new Siri AI app, and few other apps.
So far I'm excited for the fixed/improved LG implementation, and I'm a fan of the LG slider. As someone in late 40s I want LG to be turned off, and buttons and control elements to be easily visible and readable. So, my slider is all the way to the right.
Golden Gate looks very similar to Sequoia and I feel it's perhaps overall even a tad faster as well. I love how much faster it is to invoke Desktop and Mission Control using the HOT CORNERS feature I have come to LOVE ❤️ over the last 2 decades of using Macs. The animations are certainly faster.
They have fixed the corner radii 😃 It's still a bit more rounder than Sequoia, but at least it's not Fisher Price insanity. Traffic lights in Beta 6 are pretty fun. Aqua nostalgia is hitting me every time I use them. I wish Apple finally figured out the Green button. I'd prefer the Green button make the app fill the screen but not FULL SCREEN mode. Full Screen mode takes the user to a "new world" where everything disappears and you get lost for a moment, staring at the screen, wondering why are all the control elements gone and how do you get back to previous screen. Maybe Full Screen mode with the Option key?
Overall these past 2 weeks have been fun and productive on Golden Gate beta 5 and 6. I'm enjoying it tremendously, actually! I feel it's basically Sequoia with cool graphics improvements, speed improvements, tons of new and useful features like the natural language in Calendar app, Siri AI and better than ever Photos app, etc.
I have now installed the Beta 6 on my production machine, and I will be installing the Golden Gate beta 7 next week. Beta 6 have been rock solid for me with ZERO issues but a tiny one, in my case. And that doesn't really bother me.
Looking forward to full release in September.

No. Windows title bar buttons are insanely big and I don't like full screen mode, I like zoom

Anyone figure out how to uninstall AI? My computer doesn't have enough extra space to give up 30GB for something I'm never going to use

this post sounds encouraging, I was mis-lead by last years tahoe over-hype by 'experts" while us users shrugged that OS off. I just wondered how many GB that MBP has?

Ok so we're back to pre-flat design MacOS. In a resource-constrained world, the world company runs in circles to create the illusion of change.
Would it kill apple to simply make the active AROUND the damn stoplights bigger?

That is really by far my main complaint. Good for 15 year olds, but not so useable for 70+ year olds.

It did take me a while to get used to them when I starting using OS X, switching from XP.
This might have been true several years ago, but at this point it is very inconsistent. even amongst the built-in applications.
For example, in the phone app, closing the window completely quits the application.
Same with weather. and find my.
Meanwhile, most other applications still adopt the classic behavior of Windows and applications being separate.
Personally, this is an area where I wish Apple would just add a toggle to make it act more like iPadOS. The minimize button should banish it to the dock or mission control to basically just run in the background.
The close button, if in only one single window of an application that’s left, should actually close that application.
There are still so many stories out there of people who had no idea about how the Mac application paradigm works, who just had app after app after app running in the background, because they didn’t realize the red button doesn’t actually close your applications. It should by default. We’re not in 2007 anymore.
Also, it’s literally how it works on every other Apple operating system?
Of course you can leave classic mode in there for the people who want it the old way.

Document based apps stay open but apps that only use one window like weather or calculator or settings will close. That’s the main point I miss in other systems and why I’m still on macOS after all the en********ation in the last few years.
If Linux could leave apps open when I close the last window, and there were a way to bring all windows of an app to the foreground with one click I would have switched to Linux by now.
Any app can be quit using Cmd+Q. In Windows can be quit with Alt+F4, but it is not so comfortable. Only some, can be quit using Ctrl+Q (if the developer made it).

I’m not sure when Apple made this change, but I’m glad that Preview doesn’t quit when I close all windows. That lets me return to it and use Open or Recent to quickly browse work. I know that I can right-click the Dock to show recent files, but for my workflow, it’s easier just to keep Preview open.
I wish it were that simple, but it’s not. Once again, Apple is very inconsistent with this.
Because apps that only ever have one window, like apple News, podcasts, etc, adopt the old behavior of the window and application states being different.
There is absolutely no logic to it.

Apple seems determined to keep churning out the worst code on the planet for internet text editing and interaction.
Stupid script is still changing even things like the letter "i" in encoding for italics into an "I", which is really irritating where post editing isn't available.
Software that can't differentiate between "i" and "</i>" (and it's just taken me around five attempts to stop it capitalising those two examples right there) needs to go back on the drawing board or something.

With multi-window applications minimize button works per window. Cmd+M shortcut does the same thing.
Whole (multi-window) app can be hidden with Cmd+H - all windows will disappear from the view (and from Mission Control) while app is still running in the background.
