Apple today provided developers with the third beta of macOS Golden Gate, with the update coming two weeks after Apple seeded the second beta.

Developers can download macOS Golden Gate by going to System Settings > General > Software Update. Beta Updates will need to be enabled, and a free developer account is required.

macOS Golden Gate includes multiple design improvements. Liquid Glass opacity has been improved to increase readability, there's a slider for controlling the level of transparency, and changes to shadowing make it easier to tell when a window is active. Apps now have uniform toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, and less rounded corners, plus there are fewer icons in menu bars.

Siri has been transformed into Siri AI, a chatbot-style assistant that combines general world knowledge, your personal data, and onscreen awareness to answer questions about anything and find information for you. Siri lives in Spotlight, and you can ask questions with the new Search or Ask interface.

There's also a Siri app where you can chat with Siri and view past conversations, and on newer Macs, you can set a custom voice for Siri with personalized pace and expressivity. Visual Intelligence is now on the Mac so Siri can answer questions about what's on your screen, and a Write with Siri feature lets Siri generate text or give feedback on your writing.

There are AI photo editing tools in the Photos app, AI tab organization in Safari, an option to use AI to automatically update weak passwords in the Passwords app, and a revamped Image Playground app that can generate photorealistic images.

More on all of the new features in macOS Golden Gate can be found in our macOS Golden Gate roundup. macOS Golden Gate is limited to developers right now, but Apple plans to release a public beta soon.

I'm again getting this on my MacBook Pro... it was the same with beta 2 on a clean install. I had to revive with another Mac, using the Beta 2 image and then update. Now seems like I have to do the same... wtf?! It's super annoying.

Please tell me the Liquid Glass slider at min opacity now makes things more transparent than before!

(Actually, I want both — a slider going all the way from crystal to granite)

As Alan Dye apparently thinks Steve Jobs said:

"Design isn't how it looks, or works, it's giving up and just letting the user try and fix it."

When is 27 going to go live for all users? I'm too busy these days to take part in any betas, but I'm definitely excited to see how well they did with Siri AI.

I can say that both she and Alexa have been improving just within the last 6 months or so, and the improvements for both have been very noticeable. Something has been happening under the hood, and it has been good even for the current versions.

Looks like they killed the Siri App... Icon is there but it only opens in a dialogue in the upper right corner and not the dock

Same, icon turned into a question mark in my dock, and now the app just opens the Siri dialog in the top right corner. Actually as I was typing this, now opening the app just opens the new Siri UI where I can talk to it. Wait, as I typed that, now it opens the app normally. Wtf?

Yep. If I look in my Applications folder, there's actually two Siri applications. One works, the other doesn't.

looks like it broke beta Siri and left you with a whoops that does not work with no fall back to basic hunting for things like weather to old Siri. Beta it is

The stats app is acting all wacky with the combined module not displaying the correct menu. Seems to show non-displayed CPU/RAM menus.
