It’s not that it’s random or janky. The introduce new changes in each beta so different new things break. Then they get tested in the wild. That’s the whole point.

No, the janky and random stuff is not that at all. I mean, for sure - having things that work perfectly well in one beta and break horribly in the next of a beta - not alpha, not in-house dev build - a released beta - is very bad, but that's not the issue here. The issue is how one person sees a bug today, but not tomorrow. Someone else doesn't see the bug at all. Someone else does not see the bug today, but does see it tomorrow. Yet another person sees the bug, but it's a bit different.

You might as well use the phase of the moon or direction of the prevailing wind to predict what weird nonsense is going to happen next.
  • Networking: Especially from Terminal; might work, might not. Connections just stall. ECONNRESET errors after some time. Then it'll just work for a while. Then break. Open a new shell? Command might work immediately. Or it might not. In that case, try turning e.g. WiFi off then back on. Might fix it. Might not.
  • Safari: Sometimes, on mouseover of a not-focused Safari window, you get a beachball as if the application has hung. Sometimes. Not always. And it hasn't hung. Except sometimes, it actually really has hung. Sometimes just that window, sometimes all of them (in which case you're in Force Quit territory). Sometimes the beachball seems to be for the whole OS as the entire window manager becomes unresponsive (but in that case, so far, it's always started working again after a while).
  • Mission Control in general: Drag and drop in the spaces strip at the top of the screen might work, might not. The place you drop the window might be where it appears, or randomly over to the left of it. While in Mission Control, hovering over the windows in the main area often shows outline ghosts that aren't on that desktop but are on other desktops. Sometimes they simply don't appear anywhere, except as ghosts. Sometimes you can see those on-hover ghosts, from some other desktop, while hovering over the in-Mission-Control slightly scaled down window of a Full Screen application. If you click on such a ghost out of curiosity, you're taken out of Mission Control and that display shows the desktop space for the ghost window, but it'll all be shown with the windows scaled down and tiled as if still in Mission Control even though you're not anymore. And so-on. The bugs here are so many, so varied and so wildly random that it'd take a day to list just the ones I've encountered and I'm still hitting new ones.
  • Menu bar: Sometimes menus don't open on click. They open on the second click, but immediately close. If the application is in Full Screen view, taking it out of that might fix it, but doesn't always. If it doesn't fix it or if it's happening for a non-Full Screen application, you have to quit it and reload. Sometimes a menu will open on the wrong display, but at least in the correct place. Sometimes a menu will open in completely the wrong place, whether or not it's on the wrong display (so e.g. you'll click on File and the File menu does open, but its horizontal position is wildly off - half way across the screen, or whatever). Everything described can strike any application at any time, including things like Finder.
  • Desktop: Sometimes all windows of an app just disappear, or the window contents are blank. Going into and out of mission control might fix it, or not; this does appear to have some link to the very broken Mission Control behaviour. When changing spaces, you might instead of seeing the animation to a new space just see a black screen during the animation period until it's presumably invisibly finished, and only then do your window(s) appear. Sometimes buttons in a window simply all stop working, as if the application is no longer receiving any pointing device input events from the window server. Once, something similar happened, only it was with scroll events. Couldn't scroll anything. For both of these, sometimes you can switch input focus to another app and then back again to fix it. Other times, it won't fix it. You'll need to quit the app and restart it. You might need to use Cmd+Q because of the aforementioned menu bugs.
Sometimes, may, might, could, etc. etc. - jank. It's a mess. If things don't radically improve, then the public beta is going to be hilarious. I doubt things will get much better now, despite my initial optimism for '27. That's based on the sharp increase in this kind of behaviour that we saw, and in point releases continue to see, in the Tahoe release cycle; this is just the next step in the degradation of Apple's software quality and the dev 1-2-3 beta's wild swings of bizarre bugs and ongoing nonsense are directly in line with that experience and show no improvement. My guess is a combination of their existing slide in quality control coupled with increasing reliance on LLM coding tools.

Sounds like non-developers like myself should skip DB3 and stick with 2?
TL;DR - yes, skip 3 and pray 4 / public beta (which ever comes first) is better.

Beta 2's most major bugs were characterised by processes that spun, chewing up CPU. If you're not experiencing much of that, then I'd say it's the more usable beta. The menu bar was broken badly in DB1, but in DB2 was mostly fixed. In DB3, it's re-broken but in super weird ways that make it far harder to work around than DB1 (basically, in DB1, setting menu bar hiding to 'never' made it mostly reliable; in DB3, it's just a lottery). In addition, DB3's networking faults are causing me very major problems in basic usability for the machine.

My Siri app has turned into a question mark and Siri itself, when you summon it, looks like a shimmering black hole in the middle of the screen. I do not like it.

Still can't mount Macs on local network. Can see the servers/Macs but when trying to mount, says it can't find them. Is this an SMB problem?
My Synology NAS connects just fine. I tried it on my Mac mini and the MBA, and it all works perfectly. I think it's even a bit faster, too.

Has anyone experienced this after updating to beta 3. I'm unable to load websites in Firefox or Opera. Also dropbox fails to connect and telegram says connecting. Also when I open music, it's stuck on loading iTunes purchases.

Safari seems to load websites fine.

On beta 2 everything worked fine. I don't use a VPN just connect to the internet via WiFi.

Any help would be appreciated.
Yes yes yes ! This is why I came in here for this beta 3...chrome websites ...many, not loading. Tried in incognito as well and still they didn't. Pages load fine in Safari. Chrome up to date. Hoping for fast hot fix from Apple

That's good to know I'm not the only one. I would submit feedback for this via the feedback app. I submitted feedback for the issues I'm experiencing.

is there really no default way to summon Siri from the keyboard now, or am I (take your pick and mix): high, dumb, not even using macOS, etc.

This is running way better than beta two for me, faster, and most importantly MUCH cooler. Beta 2 was hot all time on my MB.

However I have the disappearing menu bug now.
My 2020 M1 was running extremely hot (according to iStats) but this beta 3 is much, much cooler as well.
