macOS High Sierra (10.13) Unsupported Macs Thread

I recently installed the Security Update 2020-004, on my Mac Pro 3,1
I restarted using my HS Boot Drive, applied the Post-Install patch, restarted, and so far everything is fine, with the exception of Wi-Fi. Previous to the Security Update, it worked fine, but since the update it doesn't see the hardware. Ran ONYX, no help. Also rebuild the caches. Still no wi-fi.

System Version: macOS 10.13.6 (17G14019)

Will restart again from the HS boot drive, and see if for some reason the wifi patch didn't install.

So far, I'm stumped, but because I have hard wire available, not the end of the world, but I do need WiFi on occasion.

According to the Patch tool, Version 0 of the Broadcom patch is installed.

Any suggestions!

Reinstall anyway. Sometimes it doesn't work without installing again

Wow! I've using this forum for years, the patch tool for years, and had no idea you could so this! So cool!

Commenting my self here again. I have noticed all those weird screen glitches does not come from my original vidéo card but from various colorsync profile i use on my two different EIZO calibrated display (CG241W / HD2441W).

High Sierra seems to have trouble handling those well and each time i move a finder or safari window across both screens those annoying glitches appears... (ex. finder contrast color become black on names, icons list, etc.).

I partially resolved this (less glitches) by recalibrating both displays with the SAME software (iProfiler in this case), Usually I used the ColorNavigator 6 application from Eizo with the CG display but it looks like it's better without it for now...

Anyone has dual calibrated display colorsync issues with High Sierra as well on patched Mac Pro 3,1 ?

Since this will be the first such update I install on my system, do I install it as normal from Software Update?

I've checked the Dosdude1 site and if I understand the instructions this should be possible to do if Software Update Patch was selected. My memory is a bit foggy at the moment but I think I selected that. Can I verify if I did somehow?

Also, is it a good idea to have an EFI GPU installed when updating? I normally don't have that in my computer.

It didn't work in my case. I could download the update in App Store and apply it in a black screen with white logo and a progress bar. After 10-15 minutes the update completed, but it started again getting stuck at the initial stage. It seems to be frozen, with no progress at all.

Installed High Sierra two weeks ago on a MacBook 5,1 (ROM patched for using APFS) and RAID 0.
I made the installation in one single disk, made then a bootable copy of it to an external disk and clone it to the RAID 0.
I´m afraid that I´d have to apply the update to the external disk first and clone it to the RAID 0 again (unless there is any other solution...).

You can check the list of patches applied by using Patch Updater app (located in Utilities folder, alongside Terminal, Disk Utility, etc.). And you can also reinstall the patches of your interest from the same list.

Tried installing the Security Update 2020-005, but this is the first time I've ever had any issues with installing a HS security update. The error occurs near the end while the final scripts are being run. I've always followed RobK88's instructions at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-to-update-the-recovery-partition-in-high-sierra.2181484/ to first update the recovery partition, then perform the Distribution file hack, reconstruct the installer, and run it. Always worked like a charm previously.

After rebooting, About this Mac reports the build version as 17G14033. But the System Report -> Installations does not show 2020-005 as having been installed.

Anyone else run into difficulties with 2020-005?

Thank you very much for this. I didn't know about that information window. It seems I do have Software Update Patch installed. I'll clone the system before I run the Security Update and keep my fingers crossed...

So I tried today but am having troubles.

The installer progress bar hangs after a few millimetres and stays like that for-seemingly-ever.

Strangely, when I reboot I get a notification that an update was not installed correctly. Checking in the App Store, however, reveals "No Updates Available".

Clicking the OS version number in About this Mac does report 17G14033.

AND the Nvidia Web Driver, which I use, reports that a new web driver is available (they're released for every security update) because the currently installed version is incompatible with the presumably updated OS.

I see no information about this in System Information -> Installations, however. In Sys Info -> Software it says that the system version is 10.13.6 (17G14033).

@dosdude1 Does this mean that the installation completed?

To make things really annoying (in case I needed to force rebuild caches or such) I am not able to boot off my installer USB. In a miracle of totally crap timing booting from that stick just produces a stop sign.

I just tried to install security update 2020-005 which I freshly downloaded from Apple. When I try to run it, I get this message, which I take to mean that the update has in fact been installed.

Well, I do not think so: I have not had made any previous attempt to install the -005 update and starting the installer (without having modified it to avoid its testing of the hardware) just gave that message ("This software is not supported on your system").
I would guess it just did what it is supposed to do by Apple: Checking its compatibility for the given system (hardware and software/macOS). If that does not fit, that message will come.

Thus: Did you modify the update, as to post #1, before starting it?

Thank you very much for the reply Jorg, I really appreciate it.

I didn't modify the update prior to installation. Perhaps that is the reason for the message (and I feel rather stupid for not having read post #1 properly...).

But the build version of the OS is reported as changed, though. Would that change if the 2020-005 update didn't do at least something to the system? OS build 17G14033 is reported both in About this Mac and Terminal sw_vers.

Is there a way to check for sure, for instance if certain files have been replaced or installed by the security update?

Thank you for the replies, and @******* also for referring me to SilentKnight. I hadn't heard of that app before. It reports the following which I take to mean that the update was in fact installed even though it doesn't show up in System Information.

macOS Version 10.13.6 (Build 17G14033)

hi guys, I have a Mac Pro 3,1 on El Capitan and im trying to use DOSDUDE's high sierra patcher.
im running into an issue when it tried to boot from the verified patched USB, it loads half way and then gives me the "no" sign. Looking at the forum this was an issue for people with the ATI Radeon HD 5770 GPU which i currently have installed. But I see it was updated in the changelog in previous version of the patcher.

any other ideas why I am unable to successfully use the patched USB to install High Sierra?
