Apple lol, how much time you need to get together your main browser for the love of god! We'll see how this one turns out although I hope you guys are also fine tuning the overall performance, cookies management and engine, it has several issues apart from UI revamps.

Also, 2022 coming and your "privacy oriented" browser still fails to include a built-in adblocker.

It's great that this will be an option since it seems like people are really split on loving or hating the compact design. I can really see the appeal of it if you generally only work with only a few tabs, as someone just mentioned. I can also see why people who keep 50 open at all times would despise it.

I have a feeling Safari for iPadOS will get the same treatment.

Nowadays, people want something new and fresh… however, when it’s presented to them… they reject it. I suspect I am the minority that liked the new Safari. Welp, time will tell when Safari gets an overhaul for iPadOS 15… most likely in the next beta. They already added a Share Button/Icon to start the transition.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a toggle in preferences, as I think someone mentioned, to switch between a traditional design & the new compact design?

I’ve never disliked an update so much as the safari update on beta 2.. I know part of it is me getting older and finding it harder to adapt to changes, but man it actually generated strong emotions about my phone. It was so strong that I downloaded another browser because I just couldn’t deal with it. Then I found out that a lot of the things that I thought were iPhone features were actually safari specific. For example the short code automatically being entered for you, passwords filling in form the phone & hide my email.

I ended up downloading Bitwarden and reorganizing all my passwords and accounts. Now I feel less attached to my iPhone.

Sorry for the long rant. I just needed to get it off my chest. And I also know…. First world problems.

I was actually ok with the Safari redesign other than an occasional pop up window stubbornly not moving away… beta is beta, so…
I traded in my MBP that was running Monterey for a M1 MBA that I currently running Big Sur on, waiting for the public beta…

Glad this wasn’t another Apple Maps or butterfly keyboard disaster with Apple ignoring good sense and good customers.

If I were Apple leadership, I would now ask how such a flawed idea got as far as it did. Not only into public betas, but a big profile feature.

I feel like I’m the only person that liked the change! Oh well, not a big deal to me at the end of the day am I’m one to never really have more than 5 tabs open and close them as soon as I’m done. I mostly appreciated how the interface stayed thin with more than one tab open. Oh well, can’t please everyone!

You are not the only one. I liked the change in beta 1 and 2. It was different, but I took to it well and quickly. This abomination in beta 3 is hideous.

Yeah, but as @zorinlynx mention… coding and maintaining would be such a hassle.

Since the feedback was heavily criticized from those who are using it, best to revert it back to how it original was. It’s crazy how loud the voices are for those who dislikes the design compared to the ones who favor it. Granted, would be nice to have a poll to find out the statistics behind it. I would think some feel indifferent about the new design, which would help the case of those who dislikes it.
