Looking forward to getting rid of 1Password. Hopefully they will let me share certain passwords with my family.

Still missing a couple of important things that 1Password has:

- option to upload attachments that, for example, contain backup codes
- generate passwords
Agreed. As well as the ability to handle logins with more than just username/ password fields.
Some of my accounts have an additional field like "account number" in addition to username/password.
1pass can handle that. Keychain cannot.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the 2022 version of macOS did things properly. We don’t need a Passwords key icon; we need a Secrets icon. You know, somewhere you can intuitively store your passwords, passport scan, social security number, driving license, sensitive notes… the kinds of data that you can store with 1Password.

I’m not too fussed about cross-platform compatibility myself, and don’t want third party companies storing my data, even if it is encrypted. So, come 2022, if Apple provide a decent Secrets app, I’d probably be in a position to retire 1Password from my devices.

as others have said until you can share passwords with a spouse I will never leave 1password. Also, why is it in the settings app?? They should just make a new app for passwords

What I would really like is for Apple to stop trying to force us to use 2 factor authorization.
If we don't want it, we don't want it. Get that stupid red dot off of System Preferences
2FA is absolutely essential these days. But yeah they need to stop using system preferences to push things.

Nice addition. Hopefully it's better organized than Keychain Access, which I just keep in my dock.

It's a welcome upgrade. But I don't understand why Apple is not fully developing their password tools. It still lacks many features that make me stick to traditional password management apps, such as LastPass: generating password, adding notes, customizing names (not just the username), having categories, including attachments, accessing passwords through icloud.com (so not being tied to one's devices, although this poses a security issue, I know), etc.

The day Apple offers a viable alternative, I'm going to cancel my LastPass subscription and fully commit to it, as I think it will be well integrated into the OSs (for instance, with the ability to access pw through FaceID or TouchID, not having to enter the master password each time). And not having one's pw pasted through Continuity, Universal Clip, etc XD

I sense they are heading in that direction, but it's sooo slooooww.

I would love to use keychain but I won't use anything that stores all my passwords in a cloud. They need to add the option of syncing devices over local wifi or bluetooth like some other passwords managers provide. I know the cloud is secure and all that but its just a simple buggy update away from a nightmare scenario. I've been around long enough to see too many oops, sorry we had a breach. There is no way I am storing a Database with all my passwords on a cloud no matter how safe they tell me it is.

I've been very happy with Bitwarden. Might switch if I'm convinced there wouldn't be a way to accidentally wipe out my Apple-stored passwords when turning off iCloud or something.

I agree, but you can bet that the new "Password Management" feature in Monterey is not going to be available unless you invoke 2FA.

Absolutely. I used to have a little padlock up in my menu bar and use it all the time. It was also a useful repository for secure notes... another reason not to use keychain access.

I must confess, that I’m a long time 1password user, but over the last couple of years I’ve used it less and less. iCloud Keychain is basically covering all my needs.
I canceled 1Password and went back to iCloud Keychain. How do you keep the iCloud keychain in menu bar?
