Wasn't aware that we do still need screen savers. My screen just goes to sleep when inactive. Had not thought about screen savers since those After Dark flying toasters flew all over my screen.

Screen savers should be banned. Just turn off the screen to save the plant.
Plants or planet, I just don’t feel a need for a screensaver. Especially on a laptop. I don’t even worry about the background anymore. When I’m looking at my screen, I’m using an app.
Wow, I sound old and jaded.

I never use screen saver. What's the point? I just sleep screen using a hot corner.

They should add the flying toaster and castaway. I know a lot of people are too young to remember those.
I came here to say that I wish a developer would buy all the Berkeley System After Dark modules and release an updated and fully compatible After Dark suite screen saver collection.

There was nothing like the fun and novelty days of the mid 90’s home computing boom, and I miss that era greatly. After Dark was everything and at the center of those times (until Sierra bought and eventually killed the entire series).

So, this story and information on Twitter would seem to confirm that those distinctive California landmark dynamic desktop wallpapers are a thing of the past. I am sad to see them go after just a few short years 😔 They were fun

What's the info on Twitter?

I did see in another thread that lots of the wallpapers in Monterey have a download icon next to them in system preferences, so they're not actually bundled with macOS, they are downloaded when they're selected. So perhaps when we get the actual OS next Monday, there will be some landscape pictures?

Let's hope so! The info on Twitter was just someone who had downloaded the RC confirming that there is no Monterey-specific landscape photography

A good one. Apple should add more screensavers and wallpapers.

I fondly recall the thrill of early OS X and every iteration of the Aqua wallpapers. Ah, cheap thrills.

The space ones were ok, but I really only liked the Mavericks default and night time 'El Capitan 2' out of the Cali ones.

I've had the Flurry screensaver on every Mac until Drift came out - new screensavers like those would be great.

I also love screen savers. They may not serve a specific purpose, but part of using a tool should be the enjoyment of the process. And part of the enjoyment is memories that are recalled while doing so. And for computers, screen savers (and desktop pictures) are items that transport us back to the beginnings of our computer usage—which is often accompanied by taking us back to a simpler and sometimes happier time of life.

I even like desktops so much I collected a folder of every Apple-made desktop ever made (or nearly all) and upscaled them to 6K for my personal enjoyment... rather than putting them on a site and asking for donations.

Ah, Aqua, and the good ol days.
