I also love screen savers. They may not serve a specific purpose, but part of using a tool should be the enjoyment of the process. And part of the enjoyment is memories that are recalled while doing so. And for computers, screen savers (and desktop pictures) are items that transport us back to the beginnings of our computer usage—which is often accompanied by taking us back to a simpler and sometimes happier time of life.

I even like desktops so much I collected a folder of every Apple-made desktop ever made (or nearly all) and upscaled them to 6K for my personal enjoyment... rather than putting them on a site and asking for donations.

Ah, Aqua, and the good ol days.
Looks cool. How long did that take you to compile?

Can't say a definite time but it was probably a few months initially, then I went for OCD and sorted through pictures to get the ones with the oldest file creation dates (so that a Tiger desktop had the original file creation date for example). I also wanted them to all have the original file names, that was something some of the archives took liberty and changed the filenames. i wanted everything as original as possible.
Then it involved lots of time sorting through duplicates, almost duplicates that were very similar, etc. Used Automator to make a routine that upscaled all the images in Pixelmator and then cropped them all to 6016 wide, or if the original file was 5120 for 5k iMac I left it alone.
So far I think I have all OS 10.0 and beyond images and color swatches. All the OS9 I could find. And even a few desktop tiles from the OS8 days.
Currently, my desktop pictures folder is 10.99 GB and has 1062 images.

If you ever feel inclined to make it available for download...

I spent about 3 hours scaling up the Blue Dalmatian background from my iMac so that it worked on my MacBook Pro 16" and the 4K monitor I use with it. And I miss the flying toasters screensaver of yore!

You can still get the flying toasters screensaver: it was updated recently to run on modern Macs

When selecting the Photos library or a folder of photos, they do not render. Have tried various options (e.g., Classic, Ken Burns, etc.). No luck. Anybody same problem?

All of the pics I had added to Screen Savers are now greyed ut and do not show. Om=nly a black screen.
Any help out there?

I wish they'd fix the basic wallpaper changing issue that's been there since Monterey was released. Greyed out no matter what..
