Mac vs. PC - Cancel or Allow?

Honestly I just want a prompt asking me permission every time an app wants to record my screen, and I want the permission to lapse the moment I quit the app. I sometimes have to record lectures for online delivery, but I can't have a security risk of giving any app unfettered access for a long fixed period because I handle confidential information like student records.
Problem with Apple is they have forgotten the principle's of ownership. Once is sufficient, twice as a reminder. More than this is just plain irritating with no purpose.
Same as one of my MBP's it's an offline media server, close to 13 years old. So just exactly why is the OS constantly requesting I update the Apple ID when Apple long abandoned it. It's simply annoying & irritating, word to Apple give the users an option to turn such notification's off as it get old fast...
Q-6
This seems like important information. Can anyone eloborate on this? The tweet and the screenshots are still a bit cryptic to me.
Something I strongly disagree with is companies changing ToS midstream. I agree people will just click YES to get rid of the notification. Apple should focus on securing the OS & apps, not resorting to a kop out clauses. Simple premise macOS is either secure or it's not, Apple's job is to ensure it is and do it in a manner that is not intrusive to the user experience...People will get annoyed by this monthly reminder that they'll hit allow without even reading the context. The same as many of us hit "Agree" without reading the ToS or the Privacy Policy.
Unless you’re an IT guy and you need these permissions for remote access software. This is hell on wheels!Honestly great move. Non-tech savy folks and those lacking the stamina to remain vigilant should appreciate this privacy move. After discovering how easy it is to get to the desktop from Steam Link, this is welcome on that possible stalker angle.
monthly fatigue could set in on this *VISTA FLASHBACKS* but can’t think of a better solution that couldn’t be abused
That's a good point, how is it going to work on our WFH days when the user has gone home and they can't remote into re-enable screen recording because the toggle is on the remote machine in the first place?Unless you’re an IT guy and you need these permissions for remote access software. This is hell on wheels!
They're just prompting on screen recording apps, not remote management. It really blows my mind that Apple isn’t thinking about businesses or servers here, I work in IT and there are literally hundreds of Mac’s that we manage or update remotely. I legitimately don’t know what we’re going to do other than blacklist this update.
A lot of remote access software uses screen recording permissions to push the desktop virtually to the endpoint. They're just prompting on screen recording apps, not remote management.
I'm fine with it as long as it doesn't turn remote management off.
If an update adds screen recording, you will need to approve that when you install the update. It can't happen in the background.I both like and hate this. I use some apps that regularly need screen recording access, and I’d like to permanently white list them.
But what if an app company gets purchased, and the new owners surreptitiously add screen recording functionality to it and push it through as an update? I’d like to be prompted by it, and continued to be prompted if it tries again.
There’s a fine balance and ultimately I think they just need to be able to give users the ability to choose what level of security they want. Do you mind okaying an app every month? Fine, leave it set to max security. Do you never want to be bother again? Turn it off. At least give us the option, Apple. Bad enough I won’t be able to right click > open my apps that I regularly use from before signing was even a thing and are no longer being maintained or updated to be notarized…
You should only have to do that once. Is the permission not getting saved? This is a big problem with Teams, I launch it to start a meeting, then want to share my screen and I have to then leave the meeting, quit the app and add permission then relaunch the meeting. It's 100% ridiculous!
Lots of different apps use this api for things other than screen recording or sharing. Bartender uses it to see what icons are on the menu bar. Window management apps use it to see where windows are on the screen. Graphic apps use it to allow the app to pick a color from the screen.HEY APPLE!
How about just have an indicator at the top of the menu bar that the screen is "recording"? Is that too complicated?
Some need the access for other things. For example hyperdock need access to generate a snapshot of the app window. If you have 100 apps that can records the screen on your computer, the issue is somewhere else.
Or a permission screen at startup asking macOS to access macOS drive. How long until "Finder would like permission to access the files in documents folder." ?
I actually want to go so far as to say Apple treat ALL users as newborn who are so forgetful that everyone needs to be taught how to use their computers every single day. This should be "Allow for [user-selectable period]". But Apple is reluctant to treat its users as adults.
