The thing is, taking away something that provides limited and often incorrect or variable data isn't going to change actual battery life, but it will stop people from saying there is something wrong when my computer says it has 9 hours of battery one minute, then shows 7 hours 15 minutes later (mostly because they've been streaming a video or up/downloading something that's effecting battery life at that particular point in time.

Just like with the iPhone, if Apple provided estimated battery life (in time), people would be totally freaking out all the time, because battery life will go down when there is poor cellular or wifi reception, or when screen brightness is adjusted high, or, or, or. What really matters is whether you can get through the day on battery power, be it on a MacBook, iPhone or iPad.

The best way to solve the worry about battery life, is to buy an iMac.

I dont think people are demanding refunds or replacement of parts over a fluctuating battery ESTIMATE, come on,

c.
But what you describe is a very useful feature! Otherwise you might not know how much you are tanking your battery!

I'm not suggesting that, but people are reporting battery life fluctuations as issues, which shouldn't be a surprise for anyone. I might understand it if, for example, someone had a 2015 rMBP running identical workload at the same time a new MBP and the new MBP got significantly less actual battery life, but I don't think this is what is happening.

..like I get there is a love some people have for apple and their products but

Don't even.

You people and your imagined user authority is ridiculous. This I used a computer once and I thought it was accurate so Apple is wrong nonsense is a joke. A big joke.

agree to disagree, I think this is exactly whats happening. Battery estimate feature didn't just come out,

or someone with a 2012 onward retina performing better battery wise assuming it isn't a shot battery, vs an impacted touchbar model, one would expect better if not at the very least parity on longevity

Everybody here acts like not getting the stated battery life for a device is some new development...It has been the case for many devices (Apple and others) for years and years. Any person well versed in electronics knows to realistically expect less battery life than what is stated on the box. Android/Windows users complain about it too but I bet there isn't a 20 page forum on 9to5Google about it.

Do you guys believe everything you see on TV or read online? All those commercials that seemingly have NOTHING to do with the products they promote - we all take them literally huh?

NO! educate yourself on how things work and learn to read between the lines

Your last sentence is ironic.

I would say reading the between the lines is the exact reason a lot of people are ticked off about this

You're missing the point. It's not so much the act itself, but how they're going about delivering the change.
It 'appears' to be a cover-up. The timing couldn't have been at a worse time with all the disgruntled MBP owners.
Perhaps holding off until they could explain it fully at the next Apple event.
This seemingly lack of empathy just comes off as being smug.

lol this is ridiculous. Please tell me there will be a Terminal code to bring it back up. Seriously, wtf is up with Apple and their choices lately...?

Lol. Uh oh didn't realize I wasn't allowed to have a reasonable discussion with someone who has an opposing opinion.

This just in:
Customers complain about 16GB limit on new MacBook Pro.
Solution: Your computer will no longer report how much RAM is installed.

Right. I mean, you can't change it after purchasing anyways, what difference does it make?

Courageous Apple. I loved the time remaining feature and it worked well for me.

Let's see now, we don't need ports, should use wireless headphones, love the touchbar and clicking keyboard, and now like battery gauges. At least we get new eMojis!

What they needed to do was to take the number currently reported, divide it by 2, and it would be VERY accurate again.

You certainly could if there was one.

There is no reasonable argument that entertains any of the nonsense in this thread.

This is exactly what's wrong with Apple today. Constantly dumbing things down and removing choice for the end user.

In 2003 when I switched to Apple I did so because it was a great OS that 'just worked', with a powerful POSIX base and major third party app support. At that time Linux on the desktop was a steaming mess.

Now it seems like Mac OS is becoming more and more like iOS with important configuration files locked down and choices removed. Not to mention what they did to the server. And hardware, since the Mini was made so horrible in 2014.

I'm already on Ubuntu for most of my systems and while my main driver is still a 2011 Mini with Mavericks it'll soon run Linux too.

Sorry Apple but by locking us power users out you're giving up a lot of free promotion that's going to hurt you eventually when the consumer market moves on to other shiny toys.

What's the big deal? iOS doesn't have estimated run time. Android doesn't. It wasn't accurate on OS X anyway. Why keep it?

It sounds like some "users" are not really users, but cheerleaders who thinks having no battery life time is logical.
COME ON! You know the time is important. It gives us the sense when we need to charge mbp.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple decides to have life timer on DESKTOP.

Hey, at least Apple's in good company. Casinos have understood for quite some time that clocks are bad for business.

You know what... you are so right. Get rid of those consumers. THEY clearly are the problem.
No, I that is not what I meant. What I meant was, that we do not anymore fact check it. Some years ago we made fun of people who believed everything that's on the internet. Now some customers just have to post that they think that the battery life is not ok and everybody throws a fit. Not checking the reasons behind the battery life drain, but just assuming that Apple knowingly lied to us all. That's what I meant. Nobody is fact checking anymore. And that seriously worries me.
