imo, there are far too many superficial customization options already. It used to be Apple's job to create a design that worked well out of the box.

Agreed. And, given the current state of things, do we really want to encourage Apple to introduce additional code paths, all requiring testing?

It's mostly stable but as someone who has a lot of apps that I use with it, I am finding, as expected, that many don't fully work.

I am using this on a secondary MacBook. I would wait for the PB. It should be out in about 4 weeks I would think.

graphics performance on my M2 MBA has taken a hit with Beta 2, so if you play any games or do anything similarly graphics intensive, I'd give it a miss. This is just anecdotal though your mileage may vary.

Seems only the UI is using around 30% of my 20 core M4 Pro GPU, while I am doing nothing. And it's even set to low power mode.

The CPU temperature is even worse than in Beta 1. In Sequoia the Efficiency Cores were all at 45 and the Performance Cores all at 40 when I wasn't doing anything special.
I never looked at the GPU temperature before but at the moment my Mini is about 72-75 degrees Celsius and feels hot. It's even hotter than on Beta 1 without low power mode.
Still not hot enough for the fan ramping up, but I don't like my Mini always being hot when the case always was cooler than my room temperature in Sequoia, while doing light tasks. This can't be right.
Power usage is 16-17 Watt.
It's also strange that Performance Core 1-5 always stay at 40 and only 6-10 seemed to be used more.

It'd say same as Beta 1. Quite laggy, Safari is borked, battery drains fast af. I'd wait (even tho I didn't haha).

Beta 2 is like an alpha build and you should hope and pray they don't release it as the public beta later this week or next week. It's like Apple forgot it was suppose to be a beta for testers and instead forgot to complete it from alpha stage. Beta 1 was more stable and refined than this garbage.

After every install, I shut down, restart in Safe Mode and it makes things smoother and more stable. After doing that, B2 has been about as good as a beta gets. Super stable for me overall. Scrolling on long pages like Facebook is jittery but, I haven't had one single app suddenly quit. Another thing someone else said if you are having problems is to open Font Book/Settings/Advanced/Reset Fonts.

Now those are coming always back. I could even put them into the trash and empty it while they are mounted. I ejected them now. I wonder if agsin one or two other random DMGs in my Downloads folder get mounted later. The Mac doesn't even need to go to sleep. I already noticed before with the Paragon DMG that it came back just an hour or so later and it wasn't deleted I had two different versions downloaded. The latest Paragon ExtFS and probably NTFS too can't be installed by the way.

And all apps that are not compatible in the way that the app can't be launched or installed call it version 16.

At least Onyx, what needs a new app for every version knows the real number:

I don't think it's mentioned, but now the search and the field are one component, rather than just the search button being displayed.

Is anyone else using Downie for mostly YouTube and Twitch downloads? Some download formats that normally were no problem can't be played properly. It only works if you start it from the beginning and leave it play untouched without moving forth and back in the timeline, but if you do it just stops where it is and nothing happens. Most YouTube videos can be played normal, but some not and I had this problem with every Twitch download since Beta 1. And it's in every player I tried. Converting it to another MP4 format helps.

Also Downie is always asking twice for every download when you choose to ask every time for what format/resolution to download. It seems some downloads cancel after a few seconds and then it's asking again with a smaller list to choose from.

This also never happened in 15.5.

I don't write to developers anymore. They always seem to be annoyed if you report bugs. And answer always something like "you are doing it wrong" or don't even know what's my problem. Even if I am not using a beta OS. And I am always very friendly and explain the issues as exactly as possible. There are only a few ones left that get reports from me.

This is because Finder and Spotlight seem to be merged together now into one unified system replacing launchpad and other stuff.

Also Downie is working fine for me. Haven't had any issues other than the beta warning pop-up...

What is only working with SIP disabled anyway.

mds is the metadata server used by everything, so if you disable it search won't obviously work anymore. Spotlight is just one of the many UI over mds.
