Issues Information:

When there is a new macOS release, please be sure to let us know about the issue's status by moving it to either "Remaining Issues" or "Resolved Issues"

Additional Notes
  • Updates might not show up in Settings as soon as it releases if you have Rosetta 2 installed. This is due to Apple not releasing Rosetta at the same time as macOS Tahoe Betas. Please wait up to an hour before you will be able to update.
  • If you are encountering a memory management issue (eg. a Memory Leak), please provide what app/process it is coming from (Using Activity Monitor) and what you were doing in that app.
  • macOS 26 Tahoe will be installed via a Delta Update in System Settings. Please be aware about this, as the update won’t install with an installer.
  • macOS 26 is officially supported on the following devices. If your device is not listed below, it has unfortunately been dropped by Apple. Any efforts of trying to get your Mac running macOS 26, including bugs should be discussed in this thread.
    • MacBook Air: M1, M2, M3, M4, M5
    • MacBook Pro: 2019 (16 Inch only), Intel 2020 (4 thunderbolt port only), M1, M1 Pro/M1 Max, M2, M2 Pro/M2 Max, M3/M3 Pro/M3 Max, M4/M4 Pro/M4 Max, M5, M5 Pro/M5 Max

Anyone having issues with iMessage after the update?

It asks me to sign in, then it will pull up my messages for 30-45 seconds, then it goes away and asks me to sign in again.

For those few seconds, my messages are up, and it will not let me send anything.

It says "iMessage needs to be enabled on this device."

Just updated and do not see this on my M1 MacBook Air only 8GB memory and 256 GB SSD.

I signed out and now can’t get back in. Logs in then kicks me out.

All because my iMessages were being sent out as text (sms) and not blue. Major bug id say!

Spotlight continues to not find the 'Apps' app, perhaps because it kind of… is the Apps app. Fascinating omission, Apple Feedback shows '10 or more reports', so someone knows.

at least on macbook 16 intel 2019 (I don't know on Mac with M processor), the BUG that no longer allows you to create CUSTOM FOLDER ICONS from simple png or jpg images or icns icon sets, by copying and pasting is still present...

perform all the suggested procedures: forced reopening of the finder, clearing desktop cache, deleting plist of finder settings, reset pram etc etc

Same as on 26.3 - Spotlight menu in System Settings is able to populate only after additional reboot after update.

Hi!

I'm on 26.4, and I've noticed the following:

- Every time I restart my Mac (or logout-login), if I open Applications (and other folders), for example, I notice that my Mac takes a fraction of a second to load the icons, as if it needs to recreate the cache. Frankly, I don't remember if this has worsened with macOS 26, but I think so, because it gives me a feeling of "slowness" that I hadn't noticed before.
- In System Settings > Users & Groups, my icon changes aren't accepted. I set Monogram, type my initials (2 characters), select the first color (gray), and click Save, but nothing changes.
- Every time I turn on my Mac, my Magic Keyboard connects after a few seconds, so much so that when I enter my password, for 2-3 attempts it gives me an error, as if it doesn't recognize the characters correctly (I also use upper and lower case).

Oooof, 26.4 isn't running well at all on my M4 iMac 24".

Screen savers are stuttering, menus's are stuttering and not populating. Generally, it's jittery as hell. Do I roll back or hang on in there for a further update?

Only had that issue with 26.4 B1 on my M1 Max MBP. Was resolved in B2

For me, copying the icon from the Get Info pane of an image file and then pasting it to another results in a blank image icon. Copying the actual image and pasting that works.

no... in the sense that the correct operation is to open for example a preview image, make copy, then select a folder > info and select the box in the top left then paste DOESN'T WORK... the operation works, it has always worked, even copying and pasting from the two boxes in the top left if one of the folders was already associated with a personal image... in any case the correct procedure as it has been done since everything was born (about 20 years ago?) DOESN'T WORK... the folder, in reality, from 0 bytes, after pasting, becomes 100-200k, the hidden file "icon?" inside it is present but the preview of the image attributed to that folder is not displayed

Right... I posted after I updated my Intel iMac 2020 yesterday. Today I updated my M4 MacBook Air and the custom folder icons show. No issues with Apple silicon. Maybe it's Intel-only Macs.

On a 2019 Mac Pro, fresh install of 26.4:
Mail is now at 100+ percent CPU according to Activity Monitor while in the background, and higher when in the foreground.
The mouse and windows "hitch" every couple of seconds. Performance is erratic. Typing even hangs occasionally.
Going to let it sit for a bit to see if this is just post-update-install syndrome.
Edit: video playback hangs every couple of seconds as well.
Edit 2: Restarting fixed Mail briefly, then after about 5 minutes it shot back up to 100 percent. Mouse, keyboard, playback delays persist.
Edit 3: The delays are graphics related -- frame drops in spurts every few seconds. Possible AMD driver issue? RX 6900 XT reference card. Audio tests all passed with no problems.
Edit 4: The graphics problem persisted when I booted back to Sonoma. So it's a firmware/hardware issue someplace.
Edit 5: I reset some physical connections -- graphics glitch went away. (Whew!). Only remaining issue is with Mail.

Interesting and welcome. I have myself run across a couple of cases where a web site tried to scam me into pasting something into the terminal and run it. (I was curious enough to paste into a text editor and see what it was doing. Downloading a malicious script...)

O.k.....not a bug or anything, just an observation: I gained not quite 100GB of internal SSD space after updating to 26.4. My 1TB internal SSD , according to Finder, had ~315GB remaining prior to doing the update. Post-update, Finder shows ~410GB free.

Don't think I've ever recovered this kind of disk space before just from doing a macOS update.

I'm seeing a spotlight rebuild after installing, so that may be a reason for some slow behavior immediately after update.

26.4 has being causing some issues on my MS M1 Ultra Audio Production system. Namely Logic Pro songs getting sluggish and having their file sizes increase to 10x the normal size.

Thats when using an older version of Logic (I have to currently)

I guess one of my plugins is not playing well with the update.

Otherwise, fans and temperatures are up, the system being busy doing something in the background for hours. Busier than it normally does with a point update.

So i actually erased my system disk and tried to reinstall 26.3.1 via Terminal download, only to realize it installed 26.4 again

Nooooo

Oh well, ill make it work.

Might have purged some Time Machine or APFS snapshot data
