Apple today provided the release candidate version of an upcoming macOS Tahoe 26.4 update to developers and public beta testers for testing purposes, with the update coming a week after Apple seeded the fourth beta. The release candidate represents the final version of macOS Tahoe 26.4 that will be provided to the public if no additional bugs are found.

Developers and public beta testers. can download the macOS Tahoe 26.4 update by opening up the System Settings app, selecting the General category, and then choosing Software Update. Beta Updates will need to be enabled, and a free developer account is required.

macOS Tahoe 26.4 adds a new Charge Limit feature so Mac users can select a maximum charge level that ranges from 80 to 100 percent. Apple also brought back the Compact tab layout in Safari for those who missed the option in earlier versions of macOS Tahoe.

Apple silicon Macs who are running apps that still rely on Rosetta will see warnings about the upcoming end of support for Rosetta. After macOS 27, Apple will phase out Rosetta support, and all apps will need to be updated before that time.

macOS Tahoe 26.4 will be released to the public in the spring after several weeks of beta testing.

Depressing. I have an important program that needs Rosetta. I'll just have to keep my laptop not updated. Question: Does Rosetta cease *with* Tahoe 27 or *after* Tahoe 27?
Just get VMWare Fusion Player (for free!) to continue running Tahoe or any other supported version of macOS, until your important program no longer requires Rosetta.

I’m not sure I understand the issue. Isn’t Rosetta slated to be removed by macOS 28? If that’s the case what’s the issue with macOS Tahoe v26.4?

Did the macOS update get pulled? I checked around 10:45am PT and I saw the update appear. When I clicked "install now" I got a weird error: "Failed to locate required Rosetta update. Please try again later." Then the update disappeared, saying "Your Mac is up to date." Anyone else get this error?

Update: Restarting my Mac and checking for updates again worked as expected.

I'm crossing my fingers but not holding my breath about the future of being able to play a few games I have still in my Steam library that are older and coded for Intel. I won't be entirely upset because they all run fine on my gaming PC but a few of them I love to kick back to on the go. The likelyhood of some stuff like Borderlands 2 being updated to ARM64 is unlikely given how small the Mac gaming market is. But outside of games I don't run any software currently that isn't already ARM64 to care much about them ditching Rosetta support

It looks like Apple still could not fix the Dock Folder jump issue (when Dock Magnification is enabled, the Dock Folder abruptly jumps approx. 10-15pixels down as the user moves the cursor after a brief pause). FB20761846, opened in October, 2025.

They might be waiting for macOS 27 with this as I am sure making this right would require some super-heavy reengineering with implications right to the very core of macOS. 🙂

Apple has already stated that Rosetta support for games (and that will likely include Wine) will not be removed. They will keep a subset for that. Otherwise, they would kill off their own Game Porting Toolkit.
