Apple today provided the release candidate version of an upcoming macOS Tahoe 26.4 update to developers and public beta testers for testing purposes, with the update coming a week after Apple seeded the fourth beta. The release candidate represents the final version of macOS Tahoe 26.4 that will be provided to the public if no additional bugs are found.

Developers and public beta testers. can download the macOS Tahoe 26.4 update by opening up the System Settings app, selecting the General category, and then choosing Software Update. Beta Updates will need to be enabled, and a free developer account is required.

macOS Tahoe 26.4 adds a new Charge Limit feature so Mac users can select a maximum charge level that ranges from 80 to 100 percent. Apple also brought back the Compact tab layout in Safari for those who missed the option in earlier versions of macOS Tahoe.

Apple silicon Macs who are running apps that still rely on Rosetta will see warnings about the upcoming end of support for Rosetta. After macOS 27, Apple will phase out Rosetta support, and all apps will need to be updated before that time.

macOS Tahoe 26.4 will be released to the public in the spring after several weeks of beta testing.

nah not that. there is evidence 25E241 got installed on both. so it’s something else. there is a theory 25E243 is for the neo but apple haven’t been very forthcoming with this info. they just list 25E243 as “the” RC 1 not even mentioning 25E241 and not telling us what 25E241 is for or what 25E243 is for.

Depressing. I have an important program that needs Rosetta. I'll just have to keep my laptop not updated. Question: Does Rosetta cease *with* Tahoe 27 or *after* Tahoe 27?

After 27. Rosetta will still be available throughout all versions of 27, it’s with 28.0 where you will no longer be able to install it.
Rosetta will be available as per normal in macOS 27. With macOS 28 Apple has said parts of Rosetta will continue being available for "older unmaintained gaming titles" but has not elaborated on what exactly that entails. How that support plays out in 29, 30, etc. remains to be seen.

Just get VMWare Fusion Player (for free!) to continue running Tahoe or any other supported version of macOS, until your important program no longer requires Rosetta.
VMware Fusion can't virtualize macOS on Apple Silicon computers, so it'd be necessary to use something else, like VirtualBuddy.

I would’ve thought that when Tahoe was released that a selectable charge limit would’ve been enabled, as in iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.

Glad it’s finally coming.

Oddly, the latest Tahoe update still doesn't fix this UI bug that I think started with one of the 26.4 betas. This is the lower right corner of a Get Info window on a track in the Music app. Note the odd little white dashed lines around the corners of the Reset and Cancel buttons, but the "OK" button is OK:

You might be able to run the app in a virtual machine that runs an older OS, while the rest of the apps can take advantage of MacOS 28 or 29 or whatever. It works well if you have enough RAM

It looks like Apple still could not fix the Dock Folder jump issue (when Dock Magnification is enabled, the Dock Folder abruptly jumps approx. 10-15pixels down as the user moves the cursor after a brief pause). FB20761846, opened in October, 2025.

They might be waiting for macOS 27 with this as I am sure making this right would require some super-heavy reengineering with implications right to the very core of macOS. 🙂

I disabled Dock Magnification just because of this jump issue... One of the Sequoia or Sonoma betas had this bug back in the day, i don't remember which, but it was quickly fixed.

Hopefully that means crossover continues to work in 28

Will they finally make it possible for us, the users, to set the Finder window size to what works for us and it won't be reset every time the computer is restarted to what Apple has decided as working for all of us????

Also how about a real click-through? And to not have to hold the Crl (or command if you haven't remapped the keyboard) key down. Imagine that.

How can we see which apps are running under Rosetta? Would that say Intel in the Applications areas in System Information?
