Easy OTA update from Tahoe 26.0 Release to Tahoe 26.1 Beta 1. Waiting patiently for OCLP 3.0.0, so I'm not attempting any post-install patches of NVidia Tesla graphics, Broadcom Wi-Fi and AppleHDA.

I dont know but somehow my hope for OCLP patches is fading now. time to buy a new laptop which supports the latest and greatest.

I agree. This is being written about more and more often, but it's being ignored. From the outside, it looks like an unhealthy addiction. I'm scared by statements like, "My computer with a Penryn processor works perfectly fine." Using a computer like that is pure torture. People have the right to do what they like.
I'm not ready to buy a new MacBook Pro 16 yet. I wanted a Tahoe. I bought a cheap A2141 with a cracked screen. I replaced the screen with a regular 16-inch one. The lid may not close, the keyboard backlight and TrueTone not work(because there's no camera) doesn't work, but at least I got what I wanted and I didn't have to beg anyone or wait for anyone's mercy. But this is also not entirely correct.

I haven't used my my MacRumors account in a long time but i have to say something.

I'm one of the only two working on root patches for OCLP. Only two have to add suport for dozens of macs and fix patches full of bugs. We have a life, we have problems and we're not taking money from this, it's a voluntary work. Sometimes i feel like some people can't understand that we're also humans and that things takes time to get ready.

My current conclusion with Tahoe26 on my late 2013 iMac (27-inch) is that I'll probably stick with Sequoia 15.7, which is fully functional, even with my Nvidia Kepler graphics card.

Tahoe26 runs everything except for the lack of graphics support, which will probably never happen again, since the most important person has now left for Apple.

Someone in a forum wrote that you should use Linux "Elementary OS 8.0.1" on older Macs, for example. I installed it on an SSD I had lying around, and it's a total disaster!!!

It's not at all comparable to macOS in terms of interfaces: no desktop icons, you can't create shortcuts on the desktop, etc. Apparently, the developers are still boasting about the minimalist nature of this OS.

Then I tried Linux Mint Conomma (or something similar), YES it's ok, you could use it as an alternative to macOS.
Dear @Oxygen-X1,
Which browser are you using on Sequoia as a daily driver?

I have heavy font artifacts from time to time in Safari. This didn’t happen in Ventura, was an issue starting with Sonoma and I bit worse with Sequoia…. :(

Thank you,
Jo

I have the same machine, iMac14,2 and NVIDIA Kepler.

thank you for your efforts , I hope that you will manage to bring to us Tahoe Support , even if it takes longer than usual , and even if the number of devices will be limited , we will always appreciate your hard work.

Thanks for the enlightenment/update. I, like a suppose many others, thought there was a large group collaborating on 3.0.0 we now have a better perspective about things, I am still enjoying T26 and 3.0.0n on an experimental volume, and learning a lot about Tahoe in the meantime. Thank you both and be proud when the time comes.

It has always been roughly 5-6 people total doing development and like Edu said here, couple of them solely focusing on graphics, WiFi etc. Then there's a small group of testers (to which I belong to) who aren't writing any code or making any patches. So yeah, it's a really small team handling 50+ Mac models. Tahoe has thrown more challenges than the versions before, that is why it's taking longer.

When Mykola said in his blogpost about him leaving hopefully meaning very little, that is because in the recent years he was largely only focusing on the app / Python side of the project and pushing things out to release anyway, as he was already quite busy in his life. The project lives on with Dhinak as the sole leader now instead of co-leader, Edu and ASB mainly working on root patches as they've always done.

THANK YOU!!!! I contributed a bit of money before but its been a while. I will do it again now.

Hello @jotzet god friend...i work for Internet browsing ONLY Google Chrome.
Do you think there will ever be full graphics support for our NVIDIA Kepler-based graphics card?

Everything else works on the late 2013 iMac (27-inch) except for Wi-Fi, which I don't need.
Let's hope the NVIDIA graphics are still supported; otherwise, it's no fun without it,
everything runs like slow motion.

Alright, thanks for the reply and clarification pal, @Oxygen-X1!

Am I the only one using Safari on NVIdia Kepler Infra? :-/ seems so…

Your work has been and will continue to be appreciated. It's a shame you're not getting that feedback, but please believe me when I say that I, and several people I've referred to using OCLP, have genuinely benefited from your (and the rest of the team's) work. It's enormously complex and takes care and focus which is not forgotten by the majority of users.

@Neon Ball @educovas
I have said it before, but I for one can not think of an Open Source project that has benefitted the legacy Mac community more. Ever. Even if it ends with Tahoe or even Sequoia.
Already a reference and a classic and I am pretty sure I speak for many or even most of us as I write this.
Kudos en masse.
I think it is good to reiterate that our machines will NOT stop working - and they are working very well indeed - if they don't run macOS Tahoe. As you noted above, machines running on Sequoia do well enough, and if that's the end of the road, so be it.

I am one of the thousands of grateful Mac users around the world for you incredible sacrifice for doing something completely altruist. Thanks a lot educovas and to the rest of the few working so hard to give us this amazing tool.

I’m hugely appreciative of the work you do, it has kept our 5K iMac working long after Apple decided to stop supporting it. Don’t listen to the negative comments on these Macrumours forums - they used to be a great place for the Apple community but recently they’ve turned into a very negative place. You’re doing great work!

Dear OCLP friend, I also have an iMac 14,2 like you. However, I switched back to Sonoma after using Sequoia from September 2024 to March 2025, and my iMac is still very fast.

I don't understand why you say your iMac is slow. Perhaps you still have Fusion Drive and haven't replaced your internal HD with a large and fast SSD?!?... [For example, the Crucial MX500 or the Samsung 870 EVO 2TB, as I did. So, on Apple's 128 GB SSD I always keep Catalina installed to ensure that I can always access and recover my data in case of a crash]. Or do you have too little RAM? Or is your nVidia not the GTX780M with 4 GB of VRAM?

Everything works perfectly for me, and even heavy applications do their job. I work well with Photoshop 26, and Final Cut Pro X also works, albeit with the acceptable limitation of longer waiting times for exports. However, I'm not a videomaker, I'm in no hurry, and I don't care.

I mainly use Safari, Pages, Photoshop, Parallels 26 with Windows 11 Pro (it opens in seconds and works great), and 3D medical exam programs. With Safari 18.x, only the map with post offices, on poste.it, doesn't work [but who cares! ... It works with other browsers].

I'm back to Sonoma because Sequoia has a number of minor annoyances caused by new security management, Spotlight's preparations for Tahoe, AI developments that Intel doesn't need, etc.
Sonoma, on the other hand, remains a complete and stable macOS where I've never had any strange problems. And, most importantly, Preview app works perfectly.

First, I was waiting for the release of Mac Mini M4 to leave OCLP and to switch, but now I'm happy to wait for the M5 and enjoy my iMac, since Tahoe is still immature and, as usual, macOS won't be improved, completed, and made stable until the fourth build (usually March of the following year).

As far as I am concerned, I prefer Parallels Desktop 26 with Windows 11 Pro [which works better on my iMac than on a PC, even though I never use it because Windows makes me nervous and gives me hives... :) ] instead of the bells and whistles of Tahoe's glassy interface, which doesn't really add or take away anything important for true, long-time Mac users, and I'm enough to see the bad glassy buttons on my iPhone with iOS26. We're no longer children or teenagers to get excited about such trivial things...

Finally, thanks to BetterDisplay Pro, which, if you make it work well by patiently adjusting its settings, my display shows high-definition icons and sharp fonts just like the Studio Display. Even System Information sees it as such, and System Settings configures the monitor settings with the typical Retina display icons. What more could I want? :)

Bye :figo:
