Same SSD? Same efi?

On the Internal HD, I have 3 volumes, one test T26b, and 2 Seqs with the latest, I always install the latest 3.0.0n I am aware of on each volume. I do have an SSD with Seq also. I do not transfer data to the test volume, although somehow icloud did.

I will be waiting until at least March or April with 26.4 ...
This is consistent with the configuration on my "production" systems. I don't migrate my production systems/volumes to the next macOS major version (e.g. from Sequoia to Tahoe) until Apple drops support for the latest XCode and forces me to migrate to the new macOS.

On my "sandbox" systems / volumes where I don't place any critical data / projects at risk, I upgrade macOS whenever I want to experiment and have fun playing.

This is my personal preference, but I don't use "OCLP" or any root patching on any of my "production" systems where I store and use what I consider to be sensitive / private / critical data. This is my preference. Everyone has their own risk tolerance and I respect this, only offering my opinions for others to consider.

I will be waiting until at least March or April with 26.4 (assuming OpenCore is able to patch these old systems to Tahoe) before updating any of my old Intel Macs to Tahoe. I currently have a 2012 and 2015 MacBook Pro 13-inch both running Sequoia 15.7 RC 6.

Currently just updating to 15.7 and will wait it out a few months until more of the bugs are ironed out. This is my main machine so I don't want any issues. The work these folks do is incredible, has added support for my iMac that hasn't been supported for 3 years now.

Tahoe26/3.0.0n, on the way OTA. I wonder if OCLP will ask to update, probably not, but "hope springs eternal"

This is on a no work/ no hazard involved, test volume.

Edit: It seems like my photo desktop (not dynamic) loads a bit faster, but the 2 main things I look for before changing back to a Seq volume is whether time zone and sleep work---they do not.

Apple has committed to ending Intel support (and thus OCLP support). Very doubtful they would make changes now just to thwart OCLP. Highlly skeptical of your cat/mouse theory.
Well, it could also be used as an instrument to sort of control the after market to push for new sales

Very easy upgrade from Tahoe RC -> Tahoe Release AFTER disabling Beta Updates (System Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates: Off). With Beta Updates enabled, the first Tahoe release did not appear as an OTA Upgrade option. OTA Upgrade on my MBP6,2 performed with full installer.

Still patiently waiting for OCLP, so I am not applying any post-install patches at this time.

EDIT: One of my other devices detected and performed the incremental OTA upgrade from Tahoe RC -> Tahoe Release with Beta Updates enabled. I don't know why I needed to disable Beta Updates on my MBP6,2 to detect the OTA upgrade.

Has everyone seen this? Looks like it will be a few months out.

"As a rough estimate, we hope for winter 2026 with OpenCore Legacy Patcher v3.0.0. The additional dropped T2 models are a significant challenge and will require extensive time and research."

Isn't that a typo? Chances are they meant winter 2025, as winter 2026 would take us beyond the release of macOS 27, which won't run on OpenCore or Intel.

I mean normally they release OCLP with (fo example macOS 26 ) then the patches need changing (for example 26.1) I’m all for waiting till the .1 release if it means are old Mac’s go out on a high .

I edited it to winter 2026 thinking it was a typo but maybe it was just my personal perspective in thinking that even when winter starts in 2025, majority of the season goes to the next year. It's talking about the upcoming winter.

EDIT: I've now changed it to better wording, apologies for any confusion.

Will try to install on a 2019 macbook pro 13. Hopefully not any problems because the 16 from 2019 is officially supported. But man this installer is large for tahoe, over 20+gb trough oclp. So anybody who wants to try, you have to have atleast a 32gb usb stick.

I'm surpised that someone with a real MacMini8,1 hasn't tried to create an OpenCore EFI that injects the 'Skip Board ID' Booter Patch.

EDIT: If you don't want to use Open Core, you should be able to add -no_compat_check boot-arg to NVRAM instead of the Booter Patch.
