As someone who’s actually creating a web project, I’m really glad they do allow me to change the status bar background (note, I can’t change the appearance of status bar elements like icons themselves), as I will be able to actually match it with my project’s theme and make it look really nice, vs the gaudy white strip at the top…

@turbineseaplane Why the angry reaction? I stated my opinion and the benefits of Apple’s choice here for my project and use case…

We used to laugh at the GUI of Windows ME and its Fischer Price, but that was 20 years ago! Back then, they could be forgiven for wanting to put colors everywhere to appeal to more leisure types after the business feel of Windows and the more appealing nature of Mac OS, but now, for a company to create this, 40 years into the practical GUI.. its an embarrassment.

I really hope that there will be a setting to reduce everything to the very basics in Mac OS 27.

I am sympathetic, but I don't think you should hope for such a control. For macOS, have you already turned on "Reduce transparency" in System Settings?

This is just a reversion to the times when web developers had to make custom code for every browser because they all decided to add their own non-standard HTML stuff.

It is stupid and should not be done.

It is maddening. There you are as a user who prefers light mode or dark mode and then suddenly the UI flipped between one and the other just because you are scrolling a web page.

You don’t have to use the options if you don’t want to, it will just use the defaults. It just adds additional options to make your project look nicer if you want it to, instead of having the gaudy white or black bar at the top of your web page…. I fail to see how developers having an option to make their web page look nicer with system stuff is supposedly a bad thing… 🤷🏼‍♂️

I, for one, am glad that I can change it so I’m not stuck with a gaudy ugly white or black bar at the top of my web project, and it can actually look and feel more like a native app… 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just recently updated to Tahoe 26.4 and they still haven't fixed Safari tabs: while on os-level dark mode and a website has white background, tab bar is useless to switch to another tab 😡
 
^ this happens sometimes. I went to a website which creates this problem for a screenshot, but now the tab bar looks just fine 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, another bug. Intermittent variability in Liquid Glass affects is an issue I encounter.

I use os-level dark mode. I'm on Cloudflare's website before logging in; it's all white. When I scroll up the tab bar to top of the window lighten from dark black to grey. The tab bar is less clear but not unusable. There's is nothing gained by Safari doing the color change and a lot to lose if they can't do it reliably.

also dark mode, and no issue here with cloudflare and tab bars... 🤷

So I was just gifted with this gem on my iPhone. I could not click the "done" button because of Apple's stupid ****ing liquid glass bubble around those other drop downs.

I know this was a bug caused by the phone app not knowing how the phone was tilted; but damn wtf over. And for whatever reason tilting back and forth did not correct it, like why is the tilt sensor stuff disabled because of whatever I was doing.

Love that liquid glass. A solution to a problem that didn't exist.

The problem for me will be that I'll have to pay to upgrade most of my third party plugins for them to run on MacOS 27.

I was hoping that Apple would refine Tahoe and fix it's design issues before I upgrade to it because most of my current software licenses would also support it besides Sequoia.

However, given the news that all improvements will be implemented into MacOS 27, I'll probably stick with Sequoia for at least the next 2 years then.

Such a bummer.

plugins for what? (just curious). here, in logic pro, all my 3rd-party plugins works (& mostly has since beta 1).

In this we agree. Someone pointed out to me that it appears that the excessive padding is for accommodating touch input in upcoming Macs. I don’t mind other people having touchscreens if they want them, but I am annoyed macOS is being affected for the rest of us for it.

I admit I'm of two minds about GUI's, I don't really like them, but I understand the need for them. Touchscreens fall into the general category of needed for pads and pad-like devises (phones as the prime example) , but a touchscreen on a computer will invite greasy fingers (and the numb-nuts who have) to create even more need for screen cleaning
