Lake Tahoe is also known for sex trafficking. It's how my old boss got arrested and now rots in prison. Private tech firm, but he had a couple hotels there (and one in Arizona) as his side hobby. Some hobby.

To be fair, the new interface mockups are kind of sexy, and the Apple site does get heavy traffic!

If Apple is moving to numbering the OS with the year, then why bother with the name? Close your eyes, and tell me the numbers of Mojave, Monterey, Mavericks and Mountain Lion.

The name obscures the numbering. MacOS 26. That is all you need to know.

Mountain Lion is 10.8.
Mavericks is 10.9.
Mojave is 10.14.

No clue about Monterey. I lost count once they went above macOS 10.X.

Monterey was version 12.
And it really doesn’t matter, if the names bother someone so much, just don’t use them.
Whenever you actually have to deal with Apple support or whatever, they care a lot more about the actual version number you’re on down to the revision.
For example, if I called them right now, they’d be a lot more interested if my computer was on 15.4 or 15.5 than they would be if it was Sequoia or Sonoma.

I knew someone would actually give the numbers! 🤣

The point is that J. Random Public won't have memorized the numbers behind the names; and it's a lot easier to say: "It's 2032. You're still on the OS from 2026." instead of "You're using Enchilada, but you need to be on Tamale."

The alleged name of macOS 26 (yes) has leaked.

In his Power On newsletter today, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that macOS 26 will be named macOS Tahoe, after California's scenic Lake Tahoe.

Apple previously named its Mac operating systems after big cats like Cheetah, Tiger, Leopard, and Lion. Starting with OS X Mavericks in 2013, however, Apple switched to California-themed names like Yosemite, Monterey, Sonoma, and Sequoia.

Lake Tahoe is known for its reflective waters, which mirror the surrounding landscape, including mountains and the sky. Gurman said that would align with macOS 26's rumored glass-like design with more translucent windows, buttons, and icons.

Apple is expected to unveil macOS 26 alongside iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 during its WWDC 2025 keynote, which is set to begin on Monday, June 9 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. The conference is just eight days away.

If an actual leak, I guess that the person has voluntarily terminated their employment.
